When could candidates apply for the January 2024 course?
The Indian Navy’s advertisement for the January 2024 course gave 10 June 2023 as the opening date and 30 June 2023 as the last date for online applications. The “apply from January 6” wording does not match the dates in that official notice. The application period has ended.
These dates apply to that specific course cycle, not a future intake. The Navy publishes separate notices for later cycles, which may set different deadlines and terms.
Who was eligible for that 10+2 BTech Cadet Entry?
The January 2024 notice invited unmarried male and female candidates who met the Government of India’s nationality conditions. The listed criteria were specific to that intake:

- School marks: at least 70% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM), plus at least 50% in English in Class X or Class XII.
- Entrance examination: candidates had to have appeared for JEE Main 2023.
The notice listed 30 vacancies for the Executive and Technical Branch, with a maximum of nine vacancies for women. These figures describe the January 2024 cycle only.
How the general age guideline differs
The Indian Navy’s calendar gives a broader 10+2 BTech guideline of age 17 to 19.5 years, 70% aggregate in PCM and 50% in English in Class X or XII, with shortlisting based on the JEE Main Common Ranking List. That calendar is general context, not a replacement for a course-specific advertisement. For any cycle, follow its own notice and verify the exact dates, birth-date window and conditions.

How did JEE Main rank affect shortlisting?
Appearing for JEE Main 2023 was an eligibility condition for the January 2024 intake. The Navy said it could set the cutoff for SSB shortlisting using candidates’ All India Common Rank List (CRL). The notice did not specify one universal rank cutoff, so a particular JEE Main rank cannot be presented as a guaranteed route to an SSB call.
Shortlisted candidates were to receive SSB interview information by email and SMS using the contact details in their applications. Candidates needed to keep those details accurate and check them for communication.

What were the selection stages?
- JEE Main-based shortlisting: the Navy could use the 2023 CRL to set the cutoff for SSB calls.
- SSB interview: shortlisted candidates were informed by email and SMS.
- Medical examination: SSB-recommended candidates had to be declared medically fit.
- Final merit and appointment: the final merit list was based on SSB marks. Appointment also depended on police and character verification and vacancy availability.
What documents and application details did the notice require?
Applications were submitted through the Navy recruitment website. The notice advised candidates to prepare accurate personal details and readable scans of the required documents:
- Date-of-birth proof based on Class X or XII certificates.
- Class X marksheet.
- Class XII marksheet.
- JEE Main 2023 score card showing the CRL.
- A recent passport-size colour photograph.
The Navy warned that an illegible scan could lead to rejection and that a submitted application could not be amended. Candidates were also to take a printout of the application and original documents to the SSB interview.

Where was the course held, and what did training include?
The January 2024 course was a four-year programme at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, Kerala. The notice said the degree would be awarded by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). It also stated that the Navy would bear training costs, including books and reading material, and that cadets would receive entitled clothing and messing.
