Give each flyer, event, print ad, or other offline placement its own response path, then save that campaign label with every lead. A campaign-specific landing page or URL, QR code, unique response code, or call-measurement method can show where a response came from; keeping the source attached to the lead lets you assess later qualification and sales rather than just scans or inquiries.
What offline lead tracking can—and cannot—tell you
An offline ad does not automatically carry a digital campaign label into a website visit, phone call, or sale. You have to create a route or identifier that connects the response to the placement. A QR code can take someone to a trackable page, for example, but the code alone does not identify a person or prove that the person became a lead.

Keep the distinction between a measured response and an estimate in mind:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- A visit through a campaign-specific URL or a redemption with a unique code is directly associated with that route or code.
- A survey records what someone reports about how they found you.
- A rise in traffic or inquiries while an ad is running is only a directional signal; other marketing and normal traffic changes may explain it.
- A phone-number click is not necessarily a completed call. What gets measured depends on the call setup.
Shopify’s Omnichannel Commerce Guide discusses campaign-specific landing pages, QR codes, codes, surveys, and timing comparisons. It recommends a distinct landing page for each offline campaign. Each method answers a different question, so choose based on whether you need to count visits, inquiries, calls, or eventual sales.

Choose a response method for each placement
| Method | What it indicates | Strength | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Unique landing page or URL, optionally reached by QR code | Visits and actions on the designated route | Distinguishes a campaign route; QR codes make longer links easier to open from print | Captures only people who use the route; connecting activity to a lead and later outcome requires a lead record |
| Unique coupon or response code | Redemptions or inquiries using that code | Simple campaign identifier when the ad offers an incentive | Misses people who respond without using the code |
| Pre- or post-purchase survey | Self-reported discovery channel | Can reveal offline discovery when someone arrived by another route | Relies on recall and reporting; Shopify’s guide characterizes this as less accurate than direct campaign signals |
| Campaign timing comparison | Aggregate changes during an ad period | Can provide a rough directional signal when direct identifiers are unavailable | Concurrent activity and baseline traffic can confound the comparison |
| Phone call measurement | Calls or phone-number clicks, depending on setup | Useful when the ad asks readers to call | A click is not the same as a completed call; configure and interpret the measurement accordingly |
| Lead-management record and outcome import | Later qualified leads or sales associated with a campaign | Shows value beyond the first visit or inquiry | Requires source and outcome records, matching information, and, for platform imports, a supported setup |
Set up tracking from ad to lead outcome
- Name each campaign consistently. Choose a clear source or campaign label for every event, flyer run, publication, or placement. Do not reuse an identifier for unrelated campaigns.
- Give the placement a distinct response route. For web responses, use a campaign-specific landing page or URL; put a QR code on print or event material when it makes the URL easier to access. If an incentive is involved, assign a unique code to each placement. For calls, choose a measurement method that records the thing you need—number clicks or calls.
- Test the whole path before distribution. Scan the QR code, open the link, submit a test form, try the response code, or call the number. Check that the resulting lead record shows the intended campaign label.
- Save the campaign on the lead record. Record the source or campaign and response date when the inquiry arrives. Keep those fields associated with the record as it progresses, and add meaningful outcomes such as qualified, converted, or closed.
- Compare campaigns using the outcome that matters. Review responses and downstream outcomes by campaign, taking account of campaign duration and other activity happening at the same time. A campaign-specific route or code gives a more direct signal than a timing-based traffic change.
When Google Ads offline conversion imports are relevant
Most small businesses do not need to import offline outcomes into Google Ads just to track a flyer or event. This becomes relevant when you use Google Ads and want the platform to connect a lead that later qualifies or closes—perhaps after a phone conversation or sales-representative follow-up—to an ad interaction. Google’s offline conversion guidance describes importing offline sales and an enhanced-conversions-for-leads approach that supplements imports with hashed first-party customer information and matching to Google interactions.
For the setup described in Google’s enhanced conversions for leads guidance, requirements include a conversion name and time, email, a Google click identifier, auto-tagging, a lead form collecting first-party customer data, and acceptance of applicable customer-data terms. Phone is listed as recommended or optional, and an order ID can help control duplicates. Exact requirements vary by integration; check the current instructions for your account and follow applicable laws and Google’s customer-data terms.

Google’s API documentation warns that, starting June 15, 2026, certain UploadClickConversion requests will fail for developer tokens that have not previously sent relevant requests, and directs users to the Data Manager API. Its conversion action categories documentation maps click uploads to the Data Manager API, calls to call imports, and store sales to a store-sales import path. Confirm the supported upload method and account prerequisites before implementation; API and account requirements can change.

Count the measure your tracking actually captures: scans or visits for a QR route, code use for a coupon, completed calls if your setup records calls, and qualified or closed outcomes when your lead records preserve that progression. Do not treat a scan, click, or raw inquiry as a sale. Likewise, do not credit an overall traffic increase to one offline ad solely because the dates overlap.

There is no broadly applicable result guarantee for flyer or event tracking in the sources cited here. Shopify’s guide reports that Rebecca Minkoff’s connected-store initiative increased sales six to seven times within its first five months; that is the guide’s account of a specific initiative, not an independently verified causal estimate or a benchmark for ordinary offline campaigns.
