The simplest way to send an Amazon gift card by email is to buy an Amazon eGift Card on the Amazon marketplace where the recipient will shop, choose Email delivery, enter the recipient’s address, select an amount and design, and complete checkout. Do not choose a physical or printable gift card if you want Amazon to deliver it electronically.
How to send an Amazon gift card by email
- Open Amazon’s Gift Cards section. On Amazon.com in the United States, choose an Amazon eGift Card that offers email delivery. Amazon lists eGift Cards separately from physical and printable gift cards.
- Choose Email delivery. If the product page offers multiple delivery methods, select Email. The available options and labels can change as Amazon updates its checkout flow.
- Enter the recipient’s email address. Check the address carefully. A typo can send the gift card to the wrong person and may make recovery difficult.
- Select the amount and design. Choose from the denominations and designs currently offered on the product page. Available amounts are determined by Amazon’s current listing and checkout.
- Add the message and sender name. If these fields appear, enter a personal message and identify yourself so the recipient knows who sent the gift.
- Choose the delivery timing, if available. Some checkout flows may let you send the card now or select a future delivery date. Treat this as a checkout-dependent option rather than a guaranteed feature.
- Review everything before paying. Confirm the marketplace, recipient email, amount, message, and delivery timing. Then complete the purchase.
After the order is processed, the recipient should follow the instructions in the official Amazon delivery email and redeem the card through the appropriate Amazon account and marketplace.

What to choose: eGift, physical, or printable card?
| Format | How it is delivered | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon eGift Card | Email or another electronic method offered at checkout | You want to send the card electronically |
| Amazon Physical Gift Card | As a physical card, generally through a shipping option | You want to hand over or mail a physical card |
| Amazon Printable Gift Card | Designed to be printed rather than delivered as an email claim | You want to print and give the card yourself |
For email delivery, select the eGift Card format. Selecting a physical or printable card changes how the gift is delivered and may not produce the email experience you want.

Before you buy: check the Amazon marketplace
Amazon gift cards are tied to the marketplace for which they are issued. This guide is scoped to Amazon.com in the United States. If the recipient normally shops on another country’s Amazon website, use that country’s Amazon storefront and check its gift-card terms before purchasing.
#1 Best Overall
- Gift Card is redeemable towards millions of items storewide at Amazon.com
- Gift Card has no fees and no expiration date
- Gift Card is nested inside a specialty gift box
- Free One-Day Shipping (where available)
- Scan and redeem any Gift Card with a mobile or tablet device via the Amazon App
Do not assume that a card bought for Amazon.com can be used internationally, or that every country’s Amazon store offers the same denominations, designs, payment methods, delivery choices, or form fields. The safest approach is to buy from the marketplace where the recipient intends to shop.
How to avoid sending it to the wrong person
- Copy the recipient’s email address carefully, then check it character by character.
- Confirm the amount before placing the order.
- If you selected a future delivery date, verify the date and time zone shown by Amazon.
- Tell the recipient to look for the official Amazon delivery email, including in spam or junk folders.
- Keep your order confirmation until the recipient confirms receipt.
If you discover an error before completing checkout, return to the order details and correct it before payment. Once the purchase is complete, do not assume that the email address, delivery timing, or gift-card details can be changed; available remedies depend on Amazon’s current order and gift-card policies.
Important gift-card scam warning
Never give an Amazon gift-card claim code to someone who demands it as payment by phone, text, or email. Scammers commonly impersonate government agencies, employers, utility companies, relatives, or technical-support staff and pressure victims to buy gift cards and reveal the codes. A legitimate business or agency should not require an Amazon gift card to pay an invoice, fine, bill, loan, or emergency expense.

Amazon’s anti-phishing guidance also warns that Amazon Pay will not send an invoice asking for payment with an Amazon gift card. If someone asks you to send the claim code, stop communicating through that channel and independently contact the organization using a verified phone number or website.
Where the gift card can be used
An Amazon.com Gift Card is intended for eligible purchases on Amazon.com and certain related sites under the applicable Amazon terms. It is not a general-purpose prepaid card, and it cannot be used as the payment method for an order placed through Amazon Pay with a third-party merchant.
That distinction matters: a recipient may be able to use the card for eligible Amazon.com purchases, but should not expect to use it to pay an unrelated merchant through Amazon Pay. Marketplace eligibility and other restrictions are governed by Amazon’s current terms.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Confirm that the email address entered at checkout was correct.
- Ask the recipient to search all folders for an Amazon gift-card email, including spam, junk, promotions, and trash.
- Confirm whether the order was intended for immediate delivery or a future date.
- Check your Amazon order confirmation and order status rather than relying only on the recipient’s inbox.
- Do not buy a second card or forward a claim code until you understand what happened.
Delivery timing can vary by the current product and checkout flow, so avoid promising that every eGift Card arrives instantly. If the order information does not resolve the problem, use Amazon’s current customer-service and gift-card support options.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. An eGift Card is intended for electronic delivery, such as email. A printable gift card is a separate format designed to be printed. Choose the eGift Card format when you want Amazon to send the gift electronically.
Can I schedule an Amazon gift card email for a later date?
Possibly. A future delivery-date option may appear during the current checkout flow, but scheduling is not guaranteed for every eGift Card, marketplace, or purchase. Use only the timing options Amazon actually displays.
