The best place to sell a vintage item depends on what it is, who is likely to buy it, and what it will cost to get it to them. Etsy is an option for qualifying vintage goods, eBay suits a wide range of shippable items, Chairish focuses on vintage and used furniture and decor, and Facebook Marketplace may work for local sales. Compare likely net proceeds—not just asking prices—before choosing a venue.

Choose a marketplace that fits the item and the sale

There is no universal ranking: a small collectible that is easy to ship presents different costs and buyer needs from a large piece of furniture. Start with the item’s category and likely buyer, then consider the platform’s rules, fees, and fulfillment options.

Marketplace Potential fit What to check
Etsy Vintage goods that meet Etsy’s policy. Etsy says items listed in its handpicked-by-a-seller vintage category must be at least 20 years old. That is an eligibility rule, not proof of authenticity or value. Review the current vintage policy and fee schedule before listing.
eBay A broad range of goods, including varied smaller items. Fees vary with category, price, format, optional upgrades, and seller status. eBay describes shipping labels and local pickup options; check the current selling fees and terms for your listing.
Chairish Vintage and used furniture and decor; the platform also invites professional sellers. Chairish’s plan overview describes a tiered commission framework, including a 20% tier for vintage/used products on the stated plan. This is not a universal rate: confirm the current plan and commission terms.
Facebook Marketplace A possible local option, especially when collection or local delivery is practical. Availability and delivery options can vary by listing and location. A buyer-oriented overview describes pickup as typical and delivery as variable; check what applies to your item and area: Facebook Marketplace help.
Specialist venues Potentially relevant for a defined niche such as art or antiques. A 2026 industry guide lists specialist venues, but its fee information is secondary and should not be treated as current platform policy. Research the venue’s audience, seller eligibility, fees, and geographic coverage directly: Ronati’s 2026 marketplace guide.

For a bulky object, compare a specialist furniture-and-decor venue with a local sale where pickup or delivery is workable. For a small item that can be packed safely, compare broader online marketplaces. A platform’s apparent audience matters only if the item can be sold and fulfilled on acceptable terms.

Estimate what you will actually keep

The list price is not your proceeds. Before setting a price, estimate what remains after the costs tied to the sale:

  • Platform listing, transaction, final-value, or commission fees.
  • Payment processing charges where applicable.
  • Packing materials and shipping, or delivery and transport costs.
  • Optional listing upgrades or promotion you choose to buy.

Use each platform’s current fee page for the actual listing and seller account. Etsy has listing and selling fees; eBay’s fee depends on listing details and seller status; Chairish describes plan-dependent commission terms. Since schedules can change, check them again before pricing rather than relying on a remembered rate.

For a realistic price range, look for completed or sold listings when that information is available. Active listings show what sellers are asking, not necessarily what buyers have paid. Treat comparisons as estimates: match the item’s maker, materials, condition, age, and dimensions as closely as possible.

Prepare the item and document what you know

Identify the object as accurately as the evidence allows. Record its category, maker or brand if known, materials, dimensions, age if supported, and any restoration, wear, or damage. Do not infer a maker or age from appearance alone. Etsy’s 20-year threshold determines whether an item fits its cited vintage category; it does not establish that the item is genuine or valuable.

Build the listing around clear photographs and specific details. Show the whole item, useful angles, identifying marks when present, and close-ups of condition issues. Give exact measurements and describe defects plainly. State whether shipping, pickup, or delivery is available and what the buyer needs to arrange.

Use a short decision process before listing

  1. Describe the item. Note its category, dimensions, materials, condition, and any substantiated maker or age information.
  2. Check comparable sales. Use completed or sold listings where available to estimate a range; do not treat unsold asking prices as achieved value.
  3. Shortlist two or three venues. Compare specialist fit and general reach, while ruling out platforms whose eligibility or fulfillment does not suit the item.
  4. Calculate net proceeds. Subtract fees, payment charges if applicable, packing, shipping or delivery, and any optional promotion from your expected sale price.
  5. Choose the workable fulfillment plan. Confirm shipping or pickup terms for the specific item and location before publishing the listing.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
