To sell on Facebook Marketplace, list an allowed physical item with accurate photos and details, set a realistic price, and choose local pickup or shipping if that option is available to you. For local sales, arrange payment and delivery directly with the buyer; for eligible shipped sales, follow Facebook’s in-app checkout and shipping instructions. Always verify payment through the actual payment account or order interface before handing over or shipping an item.
Marketplace access and features vary by country, account and item. It is available only from your main Facebook profile, and shipping and checkout are not offered to every seller. Facebook’s Marketplace access guidance explains eligibility and age verification.
Before you list an item
Check that you can use Marketplace
You must be an adult under the laws of your country, and Marketplace is available only from your main Facebook profile, not an additional profile. Facebook may ask you to verify your age with a video selfie or valid identification.
If Marketplace is missing, check that you are using your main profile and that the Facebook app is updated. An account restriction or an age-verification issue may also prevent access. Availability and features vary by location and account. See Facebook’s help for Marketplace access problems.

Make sure the item is allowed
Marketplace is for physical products. You cannot use it to advertise services such as house cleaning. Facebook also prohibits or restricts categories including animals and animal products, healthcare products, recalled products, weapons, drugs and counterfeit goods. Review Facebook’s list of items that can’t be listed and its Commerce Policies.
Do not try to work around the rules by describing a prohibited product vaguely or listing a service as an ordinary item. A listing that violates Commerce Policies may be rejected and hidden from other users.
Prepare the item and its information
Before taking photos, clean the item and gather details a buyer is likely to ask for:
- Brand, model and exact version
- Age or approximate purchase date
- Dimensions and weight, especially for furniture
- Condition, including scratches, missing parts or faults
- Accessories, manuals, receipts or original packaging
- Serial number or identifying details, where appropriate
Photograph the actual item in good light. Include close-ups of damage and the model label when it helps establish what the buyer is purchasing. Do not hide defects: an accurate listing reduces disputes, wasted meetings and refund demands.

Choose the right price
Search Marketplace for comparable items in similar condition and in the same general area. Compare like with like: a working current-model phone is not comparable to a damaged older model, and a solid-wood table is not comparable to a flat-pack version.
Set a price that reflects condition and leaves room for negotiation only if you are comfortable negotiating. If you need exactly $100, say so clearly rather than listing at $120 and accepting $100 after several messages. For a fast sale, a competitive price and a complete description usually work better than an inflated price followed by repeated reductions.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Remember that the price is not the buyer’s only cost. A large item may require a van, fuel or help carrying it. State whether pickup is required, whether the buyer must bring assistance, and whether delivery is unavailable.
Set the listing location
Your listing location affects who sees it and whether pickup is practical. On a computer:
- Open Marketplace.
- Click your current location on the right side.
- Enter a town, city, neighborhood or postcode, or select a point on the map.
Facebook also lets you choose a location while creating a new listing. See Facebook’s instructions for changing a listing location. Use an area that accurately represents where the buyer will collect the item. For personal safety, you do not need to publish your full home address in the description.
Local pickup versus shipping
Local pickup
For an ordinary local Marketplace sale, the buyer and seller arrange payment and delivery themselves. Facebook does not automatically process the payment or manage the handoff.

Agree on the essential details in writing before meeting:
- Total price and whether it is firm
- Pickup location and an approximate time
- Who is responsible for carrying or transporting the item
- Accepted payment method
- What happens if the buyer does not arrive
Meet in a public, well-lit place when practical. For a bulky item that must be collected from your home, have another person present and avoid allowing a buyer into areas of your home that are unrelated to the sale. Do not hand over the item merely because the buyer shows a payment screenshot or an email.
Shipping and checkout
Eligible listings may offer shipping and checkout. This lets the buyer pay through Facebook and the seller ship the item to the buyer, but the feature is not available to every seller, item or location. Facebook says selling with shipping and creating prepaid labels are currently available only in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android. See Facebook’s shipping instructions.
If shipping is available, follow the Marketplace instructions and ship only after confirming the transaction in the actual account or order interface. Facebook’s shipping-performance guidance says a seller’s cancellation rate should remain below 10%; failing to meet the standard may result in temporary loss of shipping access. Shipping-performance tools are currently available only in the iPhone and Android apps. See Facebook’s shipping-performance guidance.

- A buyer sends a payment screenshot instead of money appearing in your account.
- You receive a fake payment-app email saying you must upgrade your account or pay a fee before receiving funds.
- A buyer claims to have overpaid and asks you to refund the difference.
- A buyer offers more than the asking price without a sensible reason.
- The buyer asks for gift cards, verification codes, passwords or financial information.
- The buyer pressures you to move immediately to WhatsApp, text, email or another service.
- The buyer asks you to act immediately or bypass normal transaction steps.
Verify payment in the actual payment account, not from an email, a screenshot or a message supplied by the buyer. Never send a verification code or password. If the interaction looks suspicious, stop communicating, report the person or listing and do not ship or hand over the item. See Facebook’s Marketplace scam guidance and responsible buying and selling tips.
What to do after someone agrees to buy
- Confirm the exact item, price, method of payment and handoff or shipping plan.
- For local sales, verify that the money is actually received before releasing the item.
- For shipping sales, use the order and shipping instructions shown in Facebook rather than a link sent by a buyer.
- Keep messages, receipts and shipping information until the transaction is fully complete.
- Mark the listing Pending if you have agreed to sell but the transaction is not final.
- Mark it Sold after the item has been handed over or the sale is complete.
Facebook supports the statuses Available, Pending, Sold and Shipped. When a listing is marked Pending, people who already messaged you are notified and new buyers see that status. A Sold listing is removed from Marketplace, people who messaged you are notified, and Facebook offers to archive the conversation. A pending or sold listing can be changed back to Available. See Facebook’s instructions for marking an item sold.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHow to edit, share or delete a listing
Edit a listing on a computer
- Go to Marketplace.
- Click Selling in the left menu.
- Click Your listings.
- Click Options on the listing.
- Choose Edit listing, make the changes and click Update.
You can also delete a listing or change its status to pending or sold. If an item is still available after a price change or description correction, edit the existing listing instead of creating several duplicate listings. See Facebook’s editing instructions.
To reach more local buyers, the app’s More listing options may allow you to include eligible buy-and-sell groups or your profile. After publishing, open the listing and use the share option. Facebook may offer Share Listing, Share on a friend’s profile, Share to a group, Share to a Page, Send in Messenger and Copy link to the listing. See Facebook’s sharing instructions.
Why a listing may not appear
If you see “There are issues with your product,” Facebook says the listing was not approved because it or the product did not comply with its Commerce Policies. Other Marketplace users cannot see an unapproved listing. Check the item category, wording and photos against Facebook’s Commerce Policies. If you believe the decision is wrong, use Facebook’s Marketplace item appeal process.
Do not assume an invisible listing is simply waiting for review or that the item has sold. Also check whether you accidentally published from the wrong profile, omitted required information or selected a shipping option that is unavailable for your account or item.

FAQ
Can I sell services on Facebook Marketplace?
No. Marketplace is intended for physical products, and Facebook explicitly prohibits listings for services such as house cleaning.
Does Facebook handle payment for every Marketplace sale?
No. Ordinary local transactions are arranged between the buyer and seller. Eligible listings may offer Facebook checkout and shipping, but those features are not available to every seller or item.
Why is my Facebook Marketplace listing not visible?
Look for the message “There are issues with your product.” It may mean Facebook rejected the listing under its Commerce Policies. You can review the listing and use Facebook’s appeal process if you believe the rejection is incorrect.
Is cash eligible for Facebook Purchase Protection?
No. Facebook says in-person transactions using cash or other person-to-person payment methods are not eligible for Purchase Protection. Eligible purchases made with checkout on Facebook may be covered.
The Bottom Line
To sell safely on Facebook Marketplace, list an allowed physical product with accurate photos and condition details, price it against comparable items, set a practical location, and agree on payment and delivery before meeting. For local sales, verify money in the real payment account and use a safe handoff plan. If Facebook checkout and shipping are available for your listing, follow the in-app order process instead of links or instructions supplied by a buyer. Mark the item pending or sold promptly, and appeal a policy rejection only after checking the listing against Facebook’s Commerce Policies.
