Remove a card from Apple Pay on iPhone
- Open the Wallet app.
- Tap the payment card you want to remove. The card must be selected before its controls appear.
- Tap the More button.
- Tap Card Details.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Remove Card.
Apple notes that iOS 15 and earlier may use a different interface and may not show Card Details as a separate step. See Apple’s card-removal instructions.
Remove a card from Apple Watch
You can remove it directly on the watch or use the paired iPhone’s Watch app.
On the watch
- Open Wallet.
- Tap the card.
- Scroll down and tap Remove.
In the paired iPhone’s Watch app
- Open the Apple Watch app.
- Tap My Watch, then Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Tap the card, then tap Remove Card.
Apple Watch has its own Apple Pay credential. Removing a card from the iPhone’s Wallet does not necessarily remove the separately provisioned card from the watch. See Apple’s Apple Watch instructions.

If the device is lost or stolen
Do not wait to regain access to the device before taking security steps. Apple says marking a device as lost through Find My turns off Apple Pay on that device. You can also remove Wallet items remotely or contact the card issuer.
Mark it as lost with Find My
Use Find My to mark the missing device as lost. This disables Apple Pay on that device.

- Under Wallet & Apple Pay, tap Remove Items.
Remove Wallet items from a browser
- Sign in to your Apple Account.
- Open Devices and select the lost device.
- In the Wallet & Apple Pay section, choose Remove Items.
Apple’s lost-device instructions describe these options. You can also ask the card issuer to suspend or remove the card from Apple Pay.
What removal does—and does not do
- It removes the Apple Pay version from the selected device. A card on another iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, Mac, or Vision Pro may remain there; remove it on each device where it appears.
- It does not cancel or close the credit-card account. Contact the issuer to freeze, close, replace, or otherwise manage the physical card account.
- It does not reverse completed transactions or automatically cancel recurring arrangements with merchants. Contact the issuer or merchant as appropriate.
- It does not replace fraud reporting. If the physical card is compromised or a transaction is unauthorized, contact the issuer and follow its reporting process.
Apple describes the Device Account Number associated with Apple Pay as stored in the device’s Secure Element, not on Apple’s servers or in an iCloud backup. See Apple’s explanation of Apple Pay security and the Device Account Number.

If you only want to change the default card
Changing the default leaves the old card available in Wallet. On iPhone, touch and hold another payment card and drag it in front of the others. On Apple Watch, use Watch app → My Watch → Wallet & Apple Pay → Default Card. Removing the card is the better choice if you no longer want it available on that device.
If “Remove Card” is missing
- Make sure you opened a payment card in Wallet, not a pass or expired item.
- On iPhone, open the selected card’s More → Card Details screen and scroll all the way down.
- Check the operating-system version: older iOS or iPadOS versions may use different labels or screens.
- If the device is managed by an employer, school, or other organization, an administrative restriction may affect Wallet behavior.
- Restart the device and check again.
- If the card remains unremovable or appears unexpectedly, contact Apple Support or the card issuer.
- If the device is lost or stolen, use Find My or contact the issuer rather than spending time on ordinary troubleshooting.
When to contact the card issuer
The issuer—not Wallet—is the authority for the card account, replacement, fraud reports, and transaction disputes. Contact it if the physical card is lost, stolen, compromised, or being replaced; if you want to freeze or close the account; if you see an unauthorized transaction; or if Apple Pay removal fails. A replacement card may need to be added or verified again according to the issuer’s instructions.
Signing out of your Apple Account
Apple says signing out of iCloud removes credit and debit cards from Apple Pay on that device; the cards can be added again after signing back in. This is broader than removing a single card and may affect other Wallet items and Apple services, so use the device-specific removal steps when you only want to delete one payment card. See Apple’s iPhone guidance.
What happens if the lost device is offline?
Apple’s security documentation says suspending or removing cards causes payment ability to be suspended or revoked by the card issuer or payment network. The device’s Secure Element is also updated to invalidate the relevant authorization value, and Apple says it attempts to erase the cards when the device can contact Apple’s servers. Do not treat this as a guarantee that every remote action completes instantly while a device is offline: mark it as lost and contact the issuer promptly. See Apple’s security documentation.
