This was not announced as a conventional Series C: ANYbotics called it additional funding, and TechCrunch described it as an extension closing out Series B. The company had previously announced a $50 million Series B in May 2023, led by Walden Catalyst and NGP Capital, with participation from other investors (ANYbotics; TechCrunch).
The announcements do not disclose the company’s valuation, investor dilution, revenue, recurring revenue, margins, average robot price, customer count, U.S. sales, or payback period. Nor do they break out how much revenue comes from hardware, software, services or integration. The amount raised is evidence of investor financing, not a measure of sales or profitability.

What ANYbotics sells
ANYbotics, a company spun out of ETH Zurich in 2016, develops ANYmal, a four-legged autonomous robot built for industrial inspection. It is intended to travel through complex facilities—such as energy sites, mines, power plants, chemical facilities and metals operations—and collect information that maintenance teams can review. It is an industrial inspection platform, not a consumer robot or a factory-floor robotic arm.
Inspection tasks and sensors
Depending on the configuration, ANYmal can support visual, thermal, acoustic and gas inspection, condition monitoring, and automated data collection. The intended workflow is for the robot to follow planned routes, record observations and flag possible abnormalities for human review. ANYbotics describes the platform and its use cases in its financing announcement and product information.
ANYbotics describes ANYmal as IP67-rated. That enclosure rating concerns dust ingress and temporary water immersion under specified test conditions; it is not blanket approval for every chemical exposure, washdown, weather condition or explosive atmosphere. The rating alone does not establish that a particular robot configuration is safe for a particular site.
Planned product development
In connection with the financing, the company discussed adding built-in GPUs, expanded sensor arrays and more advanced AI analytics for anomaly detection and condition monitoring. These were development plans, not a guarantee that every feature was already available on every deployed robot.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesANYbotics later said in a September 2025 update that its robots perform thousands of inspections weekly and discussed ANYmal X for explosive environments. The company described ANYmal X as the world’s first Ex-certified legged robot; that is the company’s claim, and certification applies to specific configurations and operating envelopes rather than all ANYmal products or hazardous locations (ANYbotics). The later product update should not be read as evidence that ANYmal X was generally available when the $60 million financing was announced in 2024.

Why an industrial operator might use a legged robot
Legs can help a robot navigate stairs and uneven surfaces that may limit wheeled systems. In a suitable site, that mobility can let one platform visit multiple inspection points and collect data on a repeatable schedule. It may also reduce the need to send workers into some hazardous or difficult areas for routine data collection.
Those are potential operational benefits, not guaranteed savings. Whether a robot reduces exposure, catches faults earlier or avoids downtime depends on the site, inspection workflow, sensor performance and how staff act on alerts. A thermal or acoustic anomaly is not automatically a confirmed equipment failure; a qualified person may need to investigate it.
The broader market case is that industrial assets can be expensive to maintain or take offline, while some inspection rounds are repetitive, hard to staff or risky. TDK Ventures cited a potential inspection-automation market exceeding $100 billion by 2030, but that figure is an investor-side forecast, not current market revenue or a verified estimate of ANYbotics’ addressable sales (TDK Ventures). Industrial procurement can also involve lengthy pilots, safety reviews, integration work and customer-specific engineering, so a large market estimate does not establish near-term revenue.

ANYbotics said the funding would support U.S. and global scaling, engineering and customer-support capacity, improved AI-driven inspection, additional payload and sensor options, deeper industrial-software integrations, and larger or turnkey deployments. These investments address a practical challenge: industrial customers need more than a robot. They need it mapped to a site, approved for safe operation, connected to suitable networks, configured with the right sensors and integrated into maintenance workflows.
A deployment may also need repeatable inspection routes, a process for human review and escalation, and ongoing technical support. Expanding local support can therefore matter as much as increasing the number of robots available.

Why the San Francisco office matters—and what it does not prove
ANYbotics announced a Silicon Valley office in San Francisco on November 12, 2024, before the financing announcement. The company said the office would bring it closer to North American customers and help with local support, faster deployments and tailored solutions (ANYbotics).
The company has linked its U.S. strategy to existing North American customer activity and partnerships involving Siemens Energy, SLB, AWS, Shell, BP and NVIDIA. The announced expansion supports a local commercial and deployment presence; it does not establish a U.S. manufacturing plant, a domestic supply chain, a shipment target, a hiring target or a specific U.S. deployment timetable. The available announcement also does not specify exactly which functions the San Francisco office handles.

How much customer traction is public?
TechCrunch reported in December 2024 that CEO Péter Fankhauser said nearly 200 ANYbotics robots had been deployed across industrial sectors. According to that report, customers ranged from single-robot deployments to fleets of more than 10, with the largest orders approaching 20 (TechCrunch). These are company-reported figures relayed by the outlet, not an independently audited deployment count.
ANYbotics has named BP, Equinor, Petrobras, Novelis, Outokumpu, IAMGOLD and Stelco among customers or users. The names indicate activity and interest, but a logo alone does not establish a fleet rollout, contract value, deployment duration, renewal or financial return. TechCrunch described Stanford University’s use as advanced research, which is distinct from operating a robot fleet in a commercial facility. The public information does not consistently classify each named organization as a pilot customer, research user, partner or production buyer.

ANYbotics competes in autonomous industrial inspection, not across robotics as a whole. A quadruped is one option among fixed monitoring systems, drones, wheeled autonomous robots, human inspection teams, industrial IoT sensors and other automation. The best fit depends on what must be inspected, where it is located and what evidence the operator needs.

| Approach | Potential advantage | Key trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Quadruped inspection robot | Can travel between points and handle some stairs or uneven surfaces | Requires route planning, upkeep, site integration and a safe recovery procedure |
| Fixed sensors | Can monitor stable, accessible points continuously without a mobile route | Does not visit many changing inspection points |
| Indoor inspection drone | Can reach certain elevated, confined or otherwise difficult areas | Flight time, piloting, airflow, dust, collision and regulatory constraints may apply |
| Human inspection | Allows trained staff to use context and judgment directly | Can require repetitive labor and expose staff to difficult areas |
| Wheeled mobile robot | May suit predictable routes on accessible floors | May struggle where stairs or uneven terrain are central to the task |
Boston Dynamics’ Spot is a prominent quadruped alternative. Buyers should compare the complete deployment—autonomy, inspection software, sensors, certifications, integration and support—rather than infer a technical winner from the robot’s shape. The available materials do not establish a like-for-like performance comparison between Spot and ANYmal. A fixed-sensor system may be more appropriate when measurement points are stable; an indoor drone may complement a ground robot where vertical or confined access is needed.
What a buyer should verify before a deployment
A robot inspection project is most plausible where rounds are repeatable, difficult or hazardous; a facility has stairs or multiple levels; and the cost of missed failures or downtime can justify an enterprise automation effort. Sites also need a workable plan for maps, connectivity, charging, safe operating zones, sensor data and maintenance-system integration.
Site and safety fit
- Confirm that the exact robot, payload and configuration are certified for the site’s hazards and operating conditions. IP67 is not equivalent to explosive-atmosphere certification.
- Identify how route changes, construction, blocked stairs, spills, poor lighting or temporary obstacles will be handled.
- Define what happens if the robot loses connectivity, becomes immobilized or needs human recovery.
- Establish safe operating zones and how the robot interacts with workers and other moving equipment.
Inspection quality and operations
- Specify which sensors are included, how they are calibrated and what conditions they can reliably measure.
- Decide who reviews alerts, how false positives and missed anomalies are handled, and when a technician must investigate.
- Measure a baseline before deployment: inspection hours, rounds completed, alert quality, maintenance interventions, worker exposure and relevant downtime.
- Ask whether a dedicated operator is needed, how maps are updated after site changes, and what battery, charging, spare-parts and service requirements apply.
Data, integration and economics
- Check where video, audio, thermal and equipment data are stored and processed, and whether the arrangement meets security and privacy requirements.
- Confirm whether findings can be exported to the site’s existing computerized maintenance-management or enterprise asset-management system.
- Get a clear account of what the quote includes: hardware, sensors, software, integration, training, support and ongoing service.
- Ask for comparable-site evidence of changes in inspection time, downtime, worker exposure and total cost of ownership rather than relying on general productivity claims.
A simple route or stable measurement point may be better served by fixed sensors. A facility that cannot support reliable operations, data handling or a designated internal owner may struggle to get value from a mobile robot. The system complements qualified personnel: automation does not remove the need for human judgment, maintenance or exception handling.
The business test behind the funding
The investment signals that backers see a credible commercial opportunity in autonomous industrial inspection. It does not establish that the economics work across facilities or that deployments have become routine at scale. The harder test is whether ANYbotics can repeatably turn individual installations into fleets that deliver measurable value after accounting for hardware, sensor payloads, integration, software, support and site-specific operating costs.
For a finance-minded reader, the key distinction is between capital raised and business performance. ANYbotics disclosed the financing and company-reported deployment indicators, but not revenue, margins, pricing, valuation or customer ROI. The U.S. office and stated product investments show where the company intends to build capacity; public evidence does not yet quantify the financial return from that expansion.
