Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 has passed, and there is no single process for getting fresh notes across countries. In India, a standing Reserve Bank of India direction requires bank branches to offer fresh or good-quality notes and coins on working days, including to non-customers. Indonesia’s SERAMBI 2026 exchange program ended on 15 March. For Pakistan, the available sources do not confirm a dedicated 2026 fresh-note scheme; the often-cited 8877 SMS process is from 2015, not a verified current route.
For any upcoming Eid, check the relevant central bank’s current notice and call a participating bank branch before travelling. Ask about availability, dates, denominations, any appointment or ID requirements, and per-person limits. “Fresh” may mean new notes or notes considered good quality or fit for circulation, depending on the local program.
How to get Eid notes depends on your country and the year
Fresh-note arrangements are set locally. A past Eid program does not establish that the same service, dates, quota, or reservation method applies this year. Start with your country’s central bank and the bank branch you plan to visit; do not rely on an old SMS instruction or an unofficial reseller.
- Confirm that a current Eid note program is announced and still operating.
- Ask whether the branch offers new notes or only notes fit for circulation.
- Check the denominations, any limit per person, required identification, appointment rules, and final service date.
- Confirm local stock before travelling; a national program does not guarantee a particular branch has notes available.
India: ask a bank branch about its standing exchange facility
The Reserve Bank of India’s Master Direction on Facility for Exchange of Notes and Coins directs all bank branches to issue fresh or good-quality notes and coins, exchange soiled or damaged notes, and accept notes and coins for transactions or exchange. The facility is to be offered on working days to customers and other members of the public, without discrimination.

This is a standing facility, not a guarantee of a special Eid allocation, a particular denomination, or uncirculated notes at every branch. Contact a nearby bank branch to ask what it has in stock and how it handles an exchange. You do not need to assume that you must hold an account at that bank.
Pakistan: 8877 is a historical method, not a verified 2026 route
The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has issued Eid fresh-note procedures in earlier years, but the sources available do not establish whether a dedicated distribution scheme operated in Pakistan in 2026, or what dates, quotas, or participating branches it may have had. SBP’s banknotes information page lists Rs 10, 20, 50, 75, 100, 500, 1,000, and 5,000 notes as current legal tender; that list does not show which denominations, if any, were offered fresh for Eid.

What the 8877 instructions actually say
An SBP notice dated 5 July 2015 described an SMS reservation process: send a CNIC or Smart Card number and selected branch code to 8877, receive a transaction code and branch details, then collect the allocation with the original identity document. Those directions are historical. Do not treat 8877 as active for an upcoming Eid unless SBP or the intended bank confirms it in a current official notice.
Why older quotas and dates cannot be carried forward
An SBP announcement from 15 September 2007 described one packet each of Rs 10 and Rs 20 notes through field offices and commercial-bank branches, subject to dates, stock, and identity checks. Those were conditions for that earlier distribution, not evidence of a current allocation. Separately, SBP’s 16 March 2026 public-holiday circular said the bank would close on 20 and 21 March for Eid-ul-Fitr; it was a closure notice, not a fresh-note announcement.

For a definitive answer about a future distribution, ask SBP or the bank you intend to visit. The cited information does not verify whether a Pakistan-specific fresh-note scheme was offered in 2026, and the absence of a confirmed notice here is not proof that no distribution occurred.
Indonesia: SERAMBI 2026 has ended
Bank Indonesia’s SERAMBI 2026 announcement described a cash-exchange program for Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr that ran through 15 March 2026. Bank Indonesia said it had prepared Rp185.6 trillion in rupiah currency fit for circulation, with Rp177 trillion allocated to banking-industry needs, including ATM withdrawals and branch services. These are program-level supply and allocation figures, not a personal exchange quota or proof that a particular branch had uncirculated notes. The announcement also encouraged digital payment options.

Bangladesh: the available notices do not establish a new-note service
Bangladesh Bank’s circular archive lists March 2026 Eid-related notices about bank closures and continuity of ATM, point-of-sale, QR, internet banking, and mobile financial services. The listed notices do not establish whether new notes were made available to the public. Check Bangladesh Bank or your bank for an official, current answer rather than treating an unconfirmed report as policy.
Before visiting a bank
- Find the central bank’s latest Eid currency notice for your country and the relevant year.
- Call the specific branch and ask whether it is participating and whether notes are currently available.
- Confirm the offered denominations, per-person limit, service dates, and whether booking or identification is required.
- Ask whether “fresh” means newly issued notes or notes that are simply good-quality or fit for circulation.
These arrangements are bank and central-bank services; you do not need to buy a product to obtain legal tender.
