Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsUse CompuTDS to prepare the quarterly TDS statement, then validate its output with the applicable File Validation Utility (FVU) and submit the validated file through the Income Tax Department’s e-Filing portal. CompuTDS describes tools for importing and checking return data, but the reviewed product information does not confirm compatibility with Tax Year 2026-27 forms. Confirm the supported tax year, form and FVU version before filing.
Choose the right statement and quarter
Start by matching the statement to the payment type and reporting period. The Income Tax Department’s forms directory describes these categories:
- Form 24Q: salary payments.
- Form 26Q: payments other than salary.
- Form 27Q: payments other than salary to non-residents.
- Form 27EQ: tax collected at source (TCS), rather than a TDS statement.
These are established categories, but form names and portal interfaces can change by tax year. Select the form available for your actual period and confirm the current instructions in the Income Tax Department’s forms directory.
The ICMAI practical guide lists the traditional quarterly due dates below. They are not a substitute for checking the live portal: filing dates can be extended or otherwise updated.
#1 Best Overall
| Quarter | Period | Due date listed in the ICMAI guide |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | April–June | 31 July |
| Q2 | July–September | 31 October |
| Q3 | October–December | 31 January |
| Q4 | January–March | 31 May of the next financial year |
Confirm the applicable deadline and filing instructions for your period with the ICMAI practical guide and current official portal guidance.
Register the deductor for e-Filing
Before uploading, the deductor needs a valid TAN and registration on the Income Tax e-Filing portal as a tax deductor or collector. The department’s registration guidance lists a valid TAN and principal contact PAN among the prerequisites. TRACES explains the link between registration and online filing in its e-Filing FAQ for deductors.

Prepare the quarter’s data in CompuTDS
Enter or import the quarter’s deductee and deduction information into CompuTDS. The vendor describes data import, identification of parties with TDS deductions, reporting of zero-TDS entries, identification of deposits and automatic linking of TDS entries with challans. These are software features, not independent confirmation that the accounting records or tax treatment are correct. Check the source records and challan details yourself. See the CompuTDS product page for the vendor’s feature description.
Review warnings before generating the return
CompuTax says CompuTDS can check PAN and challan amounts, flag unadjusted challan balances, warn about higher rates associated with wrong or blank PAN details, and identify possible short deductions or payments and related interest or late-fee issues. Treat a warning as a prompt to investigate the underlying records and current rules; do not assume that passing the software’s checks establishes compliance.

- Compare deductee names, PANs and amounts with your records.
- Reconcile TDS entries against deposited challans and investigate any unmatched balance.
- Resolve warnings or document why an entry is correct before creating the filing file.
Generate and validate the filing file
- Generate the return in CompuTDS. The vendor describes e-TDS return and Form 27A generation for offline submission and direct upload. Available output depends on the supported form and software version.
- Run the applicable FVU. Validate the generated return using the FVU version accepted for the selected form and tax year. The general process in the ICMAI practical guide is to prepare the return in the prescribed format, validate it, correct errors reported by the FVU and validate again.
- Use the live portal’s requirements. Check which file type and FVU version the current portal accepts for that period. Do not rely on old screenshots or assume a previously used version remains valid.
Upload the validated statement and check its status
For online submission, upload the validated file through the Income Tax Department’s e-Filing portal. TRACES says online uploading at Protean’s former TIN portal was discontinued. The TRACES FAQ says deductors can upload at e-Filing using Aadhaar OTP and that DSC registration is not mandatory. The ICMAI guide also describes submission at a TIN-FC; follow the route available and applicable to your filing.
After submission, check the portal’s filing status. If the statement is rejected, use the portal’s reason or error information to correct the file and submit again as required. A file generated in CompuTDS—or an upload attempt—does not by itself mean the statement has been accepted.
TRACES states: “No fee will be charged to file e-TDS/TCS statement(s) on E-filing Site.” The FAQ was last reviewed and updated on 31 March 2026. This refers to the government portal filing fee, not charges for CompuTDS, professional help or other services.

CompuTax advertises correction or revised-return features, including finding entries added or changed after a prior filing. Use the applicable correction workflow and match the correction form and prior-filing identifiers to the current portal and FVU instructions. The forms directory lists correction-related services; the product description alone does not establish the exact steps or requirements for a particular tax year.

Confirm CompuTDS supports your tax year
The reviewed CompuTDS product information describes preparation and validation features but does not identify a supported release, confirm Tax Year 2026-27 form compatibility, or establish support for that year’s correction workflow. Before relying on the software for a current filing, confirm support with CompuTax and compare its output with the form, upload type and FVU version accepted by the live portal. The department’s Form 144 user manual illustrates that official filing can involve form-specific upload, verification and status or rejection handling; it is not confirmation that CompuTDS supports that form.
