What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The quickest gains usually come from four changes: lower the display brightness, shorten the screen timeout, turn on your phone’s built-in power-saving mode, and stop unnecessary apps and connections from running in the background. On TECNO, Infinix, and itel phones, the exact labels and menu locations vary by model, Android version, and region, so use Settings search for Battery, Power, or Phone Manager when a path below is not visible.
These settings reduce the work your phone performs; they cannot guarantee a fixed number of extra hours. Screen use, mobile signal, apps, synchronization, and battery condition all affect the result.

Make the four highest-impact changes first
- Reduce brightness. Pull down Quick Settings and move the brightness slider lower, or enable automatic brightness if it keeps the screen comfortably readable. The itel Philippines FAQ identifies lower brightness and auto-brightness as battery-saving measures: itel’s battery-life FAQ.
- Shorten the screen timeout. In Settings, search for Screen timeout, Sleep, or Auto-lock and choose the shortest interval that still suits you. The display then switches off sooner when you put the phone down.
- Enable power saving. Search Settings for Battery saver, Power saving, or Power Marathon. Read the warning before enabling an aggressive mode because it may limit background activity, synchronization, performance, or connectivity.
- Review battery-hungry apps and unused connections. Open the battery-usage screen, identify apps with disproportionate background use, and switch off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, location, hotspot, mobile data, scanning, or auto-sync when you genuinely do not need them.
Change these one at a time if you want to know which adjustment helped. Use the phone normally for a day rather than judging battery life from a single short session.

| What you want to change | Search terms to try | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Battery usage details | Battery, Battery usage, Power | A list or chart showing which apps and system functions used energy during a selected period. |
| Built-in saver | Battery Saver, Power saving, Ultra Power Saving, Power Marathon | A preset that reduces background work and may alter performance or synchronization. |
| Display timeout | Screen timeout, Sleep, Auto-lock | A duration after which the screen turns off when you stop interacting with it. |
| App background controls | App battery usage, Background activity, Auto-start, App management | Per-app controls for background activity, startup, or unrestricted battery use. |
| Connections and sync | Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Location, Hotspot, Accounts, Auto-sync | Individual switches; disabling one removes that feature until you turn it back on. |
If your model’s manual uses a different label, follow the manual rather than forcing a path from another phone.
Reduce display power without making the phone hard to use
Lower brightness or use automatic brightness
The screen is often the most visible source of drain during active use. Lower it until text remains comfortable to read. Automatic brightness can be useful when you move between dark and bright environments, but check that it is not keeping the panel unnecessarily bright for your surroundings. itel’s support guidance specifically recommends lowering brightness or using auto-brightness where appropriate.
Do not choose a setting so dim that you repeatedly wake the screen or increase brightness again; the practical goal is the lowest comfortable level. A dark room, an indoor office, and direct sunlight require different settings.
Shorten the timeout
Long timeouts waste energy when the phone is left unlocked on a table, in a car mount, or beside your bed. Open the display settings, select Screen timeout or its equivalent, and reduce the interval. The official itel S23 manual lists reducing backlight duration as an energy-saving measure: itel S23 (S665L) user manual.
Choose a short interval that does not interrupt reading or navigation. When you need the display to stay on temporarily, use the app’s own keep-screen-awake option if available instead of leaving a long timeout enabled all day.
Use the built-in power-saving modes intelligently
Standard power saving
Open the battery or power-management area and enable the ordinary saver when you need longer runtime. Depending on the model, it may reduce background activity, restrict synchronization, lower performance, or adjust other system behavior. Check which functions the confirmation screen says will be limited, especially if you rely on live notifications, navigation, or automatic uploads.
itel’s Philippines FAQ includes instructions for putting a phone into power-saving mode, but its labels include model-specific and legacy paths. Treat the FAQ as a description of the feature, not a universal route for every itel handset: itel FAQs.

Extreme or ultra-saving modes
Some phones offer a more restrictive mode for emergencies. It may keep only selected apps available and reduce ordinary smartphone functions. Turn it on when preserving a small remaining charge matters more than receiving every notification. Turn it off before relying on background messaging, account synchronization, or a full-featured navigation session.
Brand-specific names are not universal features
Feature names shown on one model should not be assumed to exist on another. TECNO’s Turkish product page describes the POP 7’s Battery Lab, including Long Battery Life, Super Power Saving, and Smart Power Saving Scenarios: TECNO POP 7 product page. These are POP 7 product features, not a promise that every TECNO phone has the same controls.
Infinix product pages for the SMART 7 and SMART 8 describe Power Marathon and Ultra Power Saving for those particular models: Infinix SMART 7 and Infinix SMART 8 (Indonesia). Any runtime figures on those pages are manufacturer claims for the named models under the company’s stated conditions; they are not typical-use guarantees for another Infinix phone.
Control background apps without breaking useful functions
Start with the battery-usage list
Open Settings and search for Battery usage. Look for apps using substantial energy while you were not actively using them. A social, video, navigation, cloud-storage, or messaging app can legitimately use background data when it synchronizes or receives alerts, so investigate the reason before restricting it.
Recommended Free Tools
Restrict only apps you do not need running
For an unnecessary or rarely used app, open its battery or app-management page and choose a restricted background setting, disable automatic startup, revoke unneeded permissions, or uninstall it. The available controls differ by model. A restriction can delay notifications, stop background uploads, or require the app to refresh when opened; that is the trade-off for the energy saved.
Do not force-close everything
Repeatedly swiping every app away is not a reliable battery strategy. It can make apps reload more work the next time you open them and may interfere with notifications. Target the specific app shown in battery usage, and leave essential phone, messaging, security, accessibility, and wearable-device services alone unless you understand the consequence.
Check for a misbehaving app after an update
If the battery-usage list changes suddenly after installing or updating an app, compare its foreground and background use with the previous day. Update it again if a fix is available, remove it if you do not need it, or restrict its background activity. If the drain continues with the app removed, continue with the connection and battery-health checks below rather than assuming the app was the only cause.

Turn off connections and synchronization when they are genuinely idle
Manufacturer guidance for itel phones lists unused Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, hotspot, and auto-sync as functions that can be disabled to save energy. The itel S23 manual also specifically recommends turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, hotspot, and auto-sync when they are not in use. Each switch has a direct trade-off:
- Wi-Fi: turning it off prevents Wi-Fi networking until you enable it again.
- Bluetooth: wireless earbuds, watches, cars, keyboards, and other accessories will disconnect.
- Location/GPS: apps cannot obtain the normal location signal while location is disabled; navigation and location-based features may stop or become less accurate.
- Hotspot: other devices lose the phone’s shared internet connection.
- Mobile data: apps cannot use the cellular data connection, although calls and texts may still work according to your carrier and phone settings.
- Scanning: nearby-device or network scanning features may no longer discover devices automatically.
- Auto-sync: email, contacts, calendars, photos, and other accounts may wait until you open the app or manually sync.
Use Quick Settings for temporary changes, or the relevant Settings page for a more deliberate review. If you travel through areas with weak cellular coverage, remember that the radio may work harder to maintain a connection; switching to airplane mode is an option when you do not need calls or data, but it also disables ordinary cellular connectivity until you turn radios back on.
Reduce vibration and other avoidable alerts
itel’s FAQ includes reducing vibration among its battery-saving suggestions. In Settings, search for Vibration, Haptics, or Sound and vibration. Disable keyboard haptics and vibration for low-priority notifications if you do not need them, while keeping vibration for calls or alarms that you must notice. Fewer repeated buzzes also makes it easier to avoid waking the screen to check every alert.
Review notification categories rather than silencing an entire app that provides important messages. A quieter notification setup reduces unnecessary screen wake-ups without hiding time-sensitive alerts.
A practical one-day troubleshooting test
When the phone still drains quickly, use a controlled check instead of changing every setting at once.
- Record the starting state. Note the percentage, time, screen-on use, and the battery-usage list. Include whether you were on Wi-Fi or mobile data and whether location or hotspot was active.
- Make one change. For example, reduce brightness and timeout first. Keep other habits as similar as reasonably possible.
- Use the phone normally. Make calls, read, message, and use the apps you ordinarily use. A short idle test cannot represent your normal day.
- Check battery usage again. Look for a change in screen share, background app use, or a connection that remained active unexpectedly.
- Apply the next targeted change. Enable standard power saving, restrict one unnecessary background app, or disable one unused connection. Test again rather than stacking several unexplained changes.
- Escalate if the pattern is abnormal. A phone that loses charge rapidly while idle, becomes unusually hot, restarts, or shows a battery percentage that jumps suddenly needs model-specific troubleshooting, not just a brighter-or-dimmer adjustment.
Observed improvement will differ between phones because screen time, signal strength, app behavior, synchronization, and battery condition differ. There is no broadly applicable percentage or extra-hour figure that can be promised for these settings.
Use a simple setup checklist after a reset or new phone
After setting up a TECNO, Infinix, or itel phone, review the battery controls before installing every app. Set brightness and timeout first, then check which accounts are syncing. Install only apps you expect to use, because each additional app can add background activity, notifications, or automatic startup. Once the phone has a normal day of use, inspect battery usage again; the list is more useful when it reflects your real routine than when it reflects the first few minutes after setup.

When lending the phone or preparing for travel, use the same checklist: charge level, brightness, timeout, saver mode, background apps, and connections. Do not disable a service that you need for navigation, emergency contact, an alarm, a medical device, or a work notification merely to save power. Battery saving is a prioritization exercise, not a requirement to turn off every feature.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Match the mode to the situation
| Situation | Reasonable approach | Trade-off to check |
|---|---|---|
| Normal day with access to charging | Lower brightness, shorter timeout, and restrict only unnecessary apps. | Important notifications and synchronization should continue. |
| Long trip or limited charging | Enable standard power saving and disable idle radios or auto-sync. | Messages, uploads, accessories, or location features may pause. |
| Very low remaining charge | Use an extreme or ultra-saving mode if your model provides one. | Only selected apps or reduced smartphone functions may remain available. |
| Need for navigation or a hotspot | Keep location or hotspot enabled for the task and save power elsewhere. | Those services consume energy while active and should be switched off afterward. |
When battery wear may be the underlying problem
Persistent, unexplained drain can be caused by a worn battery, but fast drain alone does not prove that the battery is the cause. First check battery usage, background apps, and unused connections. If those checks reveal no consuming feature and the phone still loses charge unusually quickly, itel says a worn battery may need replacement in its support guidance: itel’s Philippines FAQ.
Before buying a part, identify the exact model and regional variant from Settings → About phone or the label supplied with the handset. Confirm the compatible battery and an appropriate service route with the manufacturer or an authorized technician. A battery that fits physically may still have the wrong connector, capacity, protection circuit, or calibration. Do not treat a generic listing as proof of compatibility, and do not open a phone yourself if you are not equipped to handle a lithium-ion battery safely.
If the phone is swollen, the back cover is lifting, it smells unusual, or it becomes dangerously hot, stop charging and using it and seek qualified service. Do not puncture, compress, or continue charging a visibly damaged battery.
What will not extend the phone’s own runtime
A charger or power bank can replenish the phone after its battery is low, but it does not make the installed battery last longer between charges. Likewise, a replacement battery is appropriate only when the original is worn and the replacement is confirmed for the exact model. For a phone that is otherwise healthy, the reliable interventions are the display, power-saving, app, connection, and synchronization controls described above.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I prolong battery life on my TECNO, Infinix, or itel phone?
Lower brightness, shorten screen timeout, enable the built-in power-saving mode, and review battery usage for unnecessary background apps. Turn off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, location, hotspot, mobile data, scanning, or auto-sync when you do not need them.

Should I turn on automatic brightness?
Automatic brightness can save energy when it prevents the screen from staying brighter than necessary. Check it in your usual environments and keep whichever setting gives you comfortable readability at the lowest practical brightness.
Is it better to close every app to save battery?
No. Target apps that the battery-usage screen shows consuming substantial background power. Closing everything can cause apps to reload more work and may interfere with notifications.
What happens when I restrict an app’s background activity?
Notifications, background uploads, or automatic refreshes may be delayed until you open the app. Restrict apps you do not need running, but leave essential messaging, phone, security, accessibility, or wearable services alone unless you understand the result.

Can I switch off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, or auto-sync?
Yes, when those functions are genuinely idle. The associated feature will be unavailable until re-enabled: accessories disconnect when Bluetooth is off, navigation may stop when location is off, and accounts may wait to synchronize when auto-sync is disabled.
Do TECNO and Infinix phones have special battery modes?
Some models do. TECNO POP 7 lists Battery Lab features such as Long Battery Life and Super Power Saving. Infinix SMART 7 and SMART 8 pages describe Power Marathon and Ultra Power Saving. These names and controls are model-specific.
How can I tell whether the battery itself is worn out?
Fast drain does not prove battery wear. First check battery usage, background apps, and unused connections. If no feature explains persistent unusual drain, consult the manufacturer or an authorized technician about the exact model before buying a replacement.
Will a power bank make my phone battery last longer?
A charger or power bank replenishes energy after the battery is low, but it does not extend the installed battery’s runtime between charges. Settings and usage changes are the relevant measures for that goal.
The Bottom Line
Start with brightness and timeout, then enable the appropriate power-saving mode. Use battery usage to find specific background offenders, and switch off idle connections or synchronization only when their functions are not needed. Because menus differ across TECNO, Infinix, and itel models, search Settings or consult the exact manual. If drain remains abnormal after these checks, investigate possible battery wear through model-specific service rather than buying an unverified replacement.
