Download your e-Aadhaar through UIDAI’s official MyAadhaar portal or a UIDAI mobile app. You can identify your record with your Aadhaar number, enrolment ID, or Virtual ID (VID); the download OTP is sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.
Download e-Aadhaar from UIDAI

Open UIDAI’s MyAadhaar page and follow its current Aadhaar download link. Use UIDAI’s official site rather than entering identity details on an unofficial service.

Choose the identifier requested by the portal: Aadhaar number, enrolment number, or VID. UIDAI lists all three as ways to retrieve the record.

Complete the displayed verification and enter the OTP sent to the mobile number registered with Aadhaar.

Download the e-Aadhaar PDF once it is generated. UIDAI also lists download through its mobile applications; current app links and guidance are on its official homepage.
If you cannot access the registered mobile number, the cited UIDAI download guidance does not establish an alternative OTP route. Do not assume another number or an unofficial service can bypass this verification.
Open the PDF with its password
UIDAI describes e-Aadhaar as a password-protected electronic copy, digitally signed by UIDAI. The password pattern in its E-Aadhaar FAQ is the first four letters of the name on the Aadhaar record, in uppercase, followed by the year of birth in four digits (YYYY).

Use the name and birth year as they appear in the Aadhaar record. UIDAI identifies Adobe Reader as software for viewing digitally verified e-Aadhaar.
Choose full or Masked Aadhaar
UIDAI defines Masked Aadhaar as hiding the first eight digits as “xxxx-xxxx” while showing the last four. Its MyAadhaar services page lists masked download as free and requiring mobile OTP. This can reduce exposure of the full identifier when the recipient does not need it.

Is e-Aadhaar valid, and is downloading free?
UIDAI’s FAQ says that, under the Aadhaar Act, e-Aadhaar is equally valid as the physical copy for all purposes, and refers readers to a separate UIDAI circular for validity details. This is UIDAI’s stated position; it does not mean every organization accepts a masked copy or a screenshot in every situation.
UIDAI’s MyAadhaar page labels Aadhaar download “Free.” It lists online PVC card ordering as a separate service with a displayed fee of ₹75 on the page reviewed in 2026. A PVC order is not required to download the electronic PDF; check UIDAI’s live service page for any fee changes before ordering.
Use UIDAI’s app only through official links
UIDAI’s homepage lists e-Aadhaar download among the services of its Aadhaar app and links to its Android and iOS listings. The homepage’s onboarding information specifies an internet-connected smartphone running Android 9.0 or later or iOS 16.0 or later, and describes selecting a language, entering Aadhaar number, choosing a SIM, completing face authentication, and setting a six-digit PIN. App features and requirements can change, so follow the current UIDAI guidance and app-store links rather than assuming the older mAadhaar FAQ describes the newer app.
