Sign in to your IRS Individual Account, open the Trump Accounts feature, and check the latest status of any submitted Form 4547 and the next steps shown. You can also submit Form 4547 electronically there. A submitted election is not necessarily an activated, opened account: Treasury or its agent may still need to send activation information, and the authorized individual must complete authentication and the account-opening steps.
The key is to distinguish three milestones: an election submitted, the later activation process, and completion of the initial account opening. Eligibility, an intention to file, or an aggregate IRS enrollment figure cannot tell you which milestone your child has reached. The IRS Individual Account is the official place to check the latest submission status for your household.

Check your child’s status in your IRS Individual Account
The IRS’s Trump Accounts feature is the official place to review the latest status of a submitted Form 4547. The IRS announced the online status feature on May 28, 2026. The account flow uses ID.me; have your ID.me access and your child’s Social Security number, date of birth, and address ready. The IRS estimates the process takes 5 to 10 minutes. That is an estimate for using the process, not a promised Form 4547 review or account-activation time.

- Go to the IRS Trump Accounts page. Choose the option to sign in to or create an IRS Individual Account. Follow the ID.me prompts if you need to establish or verify access.
- Open the Trump Accounts feature. Review the latest status displayed for your Form 4547 submission and read any next steps shown for your case.
- Check what the status actually confirms. If the feature shows that an election was submitted, treat that as a submission update—not confirmation that the account has been activated and opened.
- Complete later activation steps if requested. Treasury or its agent sends activation information to the authorized individual. That individual must authenticate and then finish opening the initial account.
Before starting, make sure you can access the IRS Individual Account and have the child’s Social Security number, date of birth, and address available. The IRS’s 5-to-10-minute estimate is for the process of using the online feature; it is not an estimate of how long IRS review takes, when a status will change, or when activation information will arrive. The IRS materials do not give a processing deadline for those later steps.
If you have not submitted Form 4547, the IRS says you can submit it electronically through the Trump Accounts feature. The same official account channel is the place to check its latest status afterward. IRS CEO Frank J. Bisignano said in the agency’s May 28, 2026 announcement that adding status to the IRS Individual Account provides taxpayers with “this tool in addition to features for managing their tax accounts, tracking important transactions, and completing key actions quickly and securely.”
What each status stage establishes
Form 4547 is the election to establish an initial Trump Account. The election, activation, and completed account opening are separate stages; evidence of an earlier stage does not by itself prove a later one. This distinction matters when you are trying to answer the practical question “Was my child enrolled?” A status showing that a form was submitted establishes that the election was submitted; it should not be read as a statement that all subsequent account setup is complete.

The December 2025 Form 4547 instructions describe activation as a later process: Treasury or its agent sends information to the authorized individual, who authenticates and then completes the initial account opening. The sequence is important. First there is an election; later, activation information is sent; the authorized individual authenticates; then the account-opening process is completed. A message or status tied to an earlier point in that sequence does not establish that a later point has happened.
For example, if the IRS feature says your Form 4547 was submitted, that is useful confirmation of the election’s status, but you should still watch for any later activation information and follow the steps it provides. If activation information has arrived and you have authenticated, that still does not necessarily mean you have finished opening the initial account. Use the status and next steps displayed in your IRS Individual Account, and complete the later action required for your case.

The IRS described the status feature as a way to see the latest status of submitted forms and next steps. It is not a substitute for completing the activation process. Nor does the fact that a child appears eligible establish that a form was filed. Keep those questions separate: Was an election submitted? Has activation information been sent and authentication completed? Has the initial account opening been finished?
If you cannot find a status or activation information
Start with the latest status in your IRS Individual Account and follow any next steps shown there. If you expected to see a submission but do not, check that you are signed in to the correct account and review whether the Form 4547 election was actually submitted. Eligibility or an intention to file is not evidence that the form was submitted. The online feature is intended to show status for submitted forms; do not assume that simply being eligible will cause an account or status to appear.

If the status does not answer your question, use the current help links available through the IRS account flow. The IRS materials described here do not establish a specific processing deadline or a dedicated escalation route for a missing status or delayed activation message, so do not assume a particular wait time or that activation will occur automatically by a certain date. The 5-to-10-minute figure is the IRS estimate for using the process, not an IRS review or activation service-level promise.
It is also important not to infer an individual result from national totals. A report that many children have signed up does not establish whether a particular household’s form was received, whether activation information was sent, or whether the account opening was completed. For those questions, rely on your own IRS Individual Account status and the case-specific next steps shown there.
Eligibility is different from enrollment
The IRS instructions describe an election for an eligible child with a Social Security number who has not turned 18 before the end of the election year, subject to the authorized-individual rules. These criteria indicate who may qualify for an election; they do not show that a Form 4547 was filed or that an account is open. Check the individual status through official IRS account channels rather than inferring enrollment from a child’s age or other eligibility facts.

In other words, eligibility answers whether an election may be available under the rules; it does not answer whether your household made that election. Likewise, submitting an election is an earlier step than activation and completed opening. These are separate questions even when a child clearly appears to meet the age or other conditions. The household-specific status and instructions in the IRS Individual Account are the relevant way to check what has happened and what remains.
The $1,000 pilot contribution is a separate election
The pilot contribution is not the same thing as checking whether the general account election was submitted. The IRS instructions specify that the $1,000 pilot contribution election has separate conditions, including that the child be a U.S. citizen born in 2025 through 2028, along with other requirements. A parent or other eligible individual must elect it on Form 4547. A child’s possible eligibility for the pilot contribution does not prove either that the contribution election was filed or that the account is open.
Think of the initial account election and the pilot contribution election as related but distinct. A child can meet the stated birth-year and citizenship conditions for the pilot without that fact alone proving that an eligible individual made the election on Form 4547. Conversely, seeing a reference to the pilot contribution should not be treated as a substitute for checking the account’s status and later activation steps. The $1,000 figure describes the pilot contribution; it is not a status check, a guarantee that an individual child has been enrolled, or evidence that account opening is complete.
The available IRS instructions say there are additional requirements beyond the specified U.S. citizenship and 2025–2028 birth years. Do not decide that the pilot election was made or that every condition is satisfied from those two facts alone. Review the applicable Form 4547 instructions and the status shown in the IRS Individual Account for your child’s situation.
Why national enrollment figures cannot confirm your child’s account
On March 31, 2026, the IRS reported that more than 4 million children had signed up and that more than 1 million had pilot contribution elections. Those totals were based solely on Form 4547 submissions received with individual tax returns by that date. They are aggregate submission figures, not a measure of completed activation and not a way to verify any individual child’s status. For your household, the relevant evidence is the current status and next steps shown through the IRS Individual Account, followed by any activation and opening steps required.

The IRS figures can provide national context, but they do not report the status of your child’s particular form. The totals were tied to submissions received with individual tax returns and do not show how many accounts had reached the activation or completed-opening stage. A national count therefore cannot answer whether your child’s Form 4547 was submitted, whether Treasury or its agent sent activation information, or whether the authorized individual completed all opening steps.
