Turn off LinkedIn’s Share profile updates setting before you edit. Find it under Settings & Privacy → Visibility, switch it off, and save your profile changes. This suppresses automatic announcements for supported edits; it does not hide your updated profile from people who visit it.
Turn off profile-update sharing before you edit
LinkedIn’s Share profile updates setting controls automatic sharing of supported profile changes. Depending on the change and LinkedIn’s notification behavior, sharing may create a feed post, an in-app notification, or an email notification.

On desktop
- Sign in to LinkedIn and click Me at the top of the home page.
- Select Settings & Privacy.
- Open Visibility.
- Under Visibility of your LinkedIn activity, select Share profile updates.
- Switch the toggle to Off. LinkedIn says the setting saves automatically.
- Edit your profile and save the changes. If the editor displays a Share with network control, leave it off as an additional check.
In the LinkedIn app
- Tap your profile photo.
- Choose Settings & Privacy, then tap Visibility.
- Open Share profile updates and switch the toggle to Off.
- Make and save your profile edits. Check for a Share with network control in the editor and leave it off if shown.
LinkedIn documents a similar route in a mobile browser: start with the Me icon, then open Settings near the upper-right corner and follow the Visibility options.
What turning off the setting does—and does not do
With profile-update sharing off, LinkedIn stops automatically announcing supported edits to your network. The change is not private from people viewing your profile: LinkedIn says, “Anyone that views your profile will see your edits as soon as you save them, even if you haven’t chosen to notify your network about any changes you make.”
#1 Best Overall
That means a new headline, experience entry, education detail, skill, or other visible profile edit may be noticed by someone who visits your page, even without an automatic announcement. The setting is about network sharing, not profile visibility or access control.
LinkedIn notes that not every profile edit generates a notification even when sharing is enabled. Its controls can also be adjusted for job changes, promotions, education changes, and work anniversaries.

Profile-update sharing and notification preferences are different
The Share profile updates control governs whether supported profile changes are shared with your network. Notification settings govern alerts you receive. LinkedIn’s notification settings guidance says changing personal notification types does not change what appears on your feed.
If your goal is to avoid announcing an edit, use the Visibility setting before editing; turning off alerts for yourself is not a substitute. You can choose to post an update manually later if you want to share the change.

LinkedIn’s profile update notification guidance gives these timing windows:
- Job updates may take up to two hours to be shared.
- Education updates may take up to 24 hours to be shared.
- Work-anniversary notifications are sent within the anniversary month.
- Automated profile-update posts are available for up to 90 days; editing or deleting an update may affect notification generation.
These are LinkedIn’s stated timing limits, not a guarantee that every edit will generate an announcement. If you have already saved an edit while sharing was on, turning the setting off afterward cannot be relied on to undo a notification that has already been generated.
What LinkedIn says about opting out
LinkedIn’s User Agreement says the service honors available choices to opt out of notifying others about a LinkedIn profile update. The practical control for that choice is the profile-update sharing setting, with the per-edit Share with network control as an additional check when it appears.
