Portsmouth and Murphy have not publicly confirmed that figure, so it should be treated as a third-party estimate—not a verified salary or take-home pay. The Leicester City angle is separate: reports describe both 2025 interest in signing Murphy and a later, reported points deduction that helped Portsmouth’s survival position.
What is Josh Murphy’s estimated Portsmouth wage?
SalarySport’s GBP comparison page lists Murphy at £15,000 per week, equivalent to £780,000 per year. Those numbers are SalarySport estimates, not figures disclosed by Portsmouth or Murphy. The annual amount is the weekly estimate multiplied across 52 weeks; it does not establish his actual pay arrangements, bonuses, deductions or take-home income. SalarySport’s player profile displays a separate estimate of $20,250 per week and lists a contract expiry date of June 30, 2028. The difference in currency presentation is another reason not to treat either figure as an official payroll record.
Why is Leicester City mentioned?
The headline can point to two different Leicester-related developments. One concerns reported interest in Murphy during 2025; the other is later coverage connecting a reported Leicester points deduction with Portsmouth’s survival prospects. They are separate stories, not evidence of a Leicester wage offer to Murphy.
Reported interest in Murphy in 2025
In September 2025, EFL Analysis reported that Leicester’s initial offer for Murphy was “nowhere near” Portsmouth’s valuation, citing football reporter Chris Wise. That account does not establish an official fee, a transfer agreement or the amount Portsmouth would have accepted. EFL Analysis’s report reproduces Wise’s comments; they should not be read as a statement from Portsmouth.

BBC Sport later reported that the rumored August interest did not turn into a significant effort by a club to buy Murphy, and that he signed a new Portsmouth deal. The article does not give his wages or precise contract terms. BBC Sport’s January 2026 transfer-window coverage provides that context.
A separate survival boost from Leicester’s reported deduction
A 2026 match preview syndicated by Yahoo described Portsmouth’s survival prospects as boosted by Leicester’s reported six-point deduction. That is a different use of “boost” from Portsmouth keeping Murphy after transfer interest. The available report does not, by itself, verify the regulator’s decision, its basis, any appeal outcome or the deduction’s precise effect on the table. Yahoo’s preview is the source for that characterization.

What the estimate does—and does not—tell you
- It is not confirmed pay: no authoritative Portsmouth or player statement in the cited coverage confirms Murphy’s wages.
- It is not take-home income: the estimate does not account for tax, deductions, bonuses or other contract terms.
- It does not prove a Leicester offer: the reported transfer interest and disputed valuation concern a possible move, not a verified wage proposal.
- It should be read with its currency: SalarySport’s GBP comparison gives £15,000 weekly, while its profile separately displays $20,250 weekly.
