Sky Sports reported that Watford were due 20 per cent of Brighton’s profit, while reports put Chelsea’s deal value between more than £50 million and up to £60 million. Neither club disclosed the fee or the sell-on terms in its announcement.
What Watford could receive
If the reported clause gives Watford 20 per cent of Brighton’s resale profit, and if Brighton’s original £30 million fee is used as a simple cost basis, the illustrative amounts are:

These are calculations based on figures reported by BBC Sport and Sky Sports, not sums confirmed as paid or owed to Watford. A 20 per cent share of profit is not the same as 20 per cent of the full transfer fee. The public reports do not explain whether the clause uses a fee before or after add-ons, whether add-ons were triggered, or which costs and deductions count when calculating Brighton’s profit.
Why reports put the deal between £50m and £60m
The figures describe different reporting, not a fee publicly confirmed by the clubs. Before the transfer was completed, The Guardian reported that Chelsea had agreed to pay more than £50 million and that Brighton had been holding out for £60 million. BBC Sport reported a £60 million deal; Sky Sports described it as worth up to £60 million. Brighton’s announcement said the terms were undisclosed, and Chelsea’s announcement did not publish a fee.

Brighton had signed Pedro from Watford in 2023 for a reported £30 million, according to BBC Sport. Using that amount as the starting point produces the simple profit scenarios above, but it does not establish the contractual calculation Brighton would use.
What the clubs confirmed
Brighton announced Pedro’s permanent move to Chelsea on 2 July 2025, without disclosing the transfer terms. The club said he had joined Brighton from Watford in summer 2023 and recorded 70 appearances and 30 goals for Brighton. Brighton’s announcement quoted head coach Fabian Hürzeler calling the transfer “an excellent deal for the club” and a good return on a significant investment.

Chelsea also confirmed the signing on 2 July 2025 but did not state the fee. Its announcement listed Pedro’s Watford record as 109 appearances and 24 goals. Chelsea’s announcement confirms the move, not the sell-on clause or Watford’s proceeds.
