The fee was widely reported as £19.5 million, but the Premier League’s announcement listed it as undisclosed. QPR’s accounts later showed a £17.6 million profit on player sales for the year ending May 2021—not £17.6 million in cash from Eze alone. Reporting said his sale helped support QPR’s finances and facilitate two signings, Chris Willock and Rob Dickie, but public figures do not trace each pound to a specific use.
What was Ebere Eze’s transfer fee?
BBC Sport reported the completed move at £19.5 million. The Premier League confirmed the transfer on 28 August 2020 and said Eze had signed a five-year contract, but described the fee as undisclosed. That means £19.5 million is the widely reported headline figure, not an amount publicly confirmed by either club in the league announcement. (BBC Sport; Premier League)
The apparent difference between £19.5 million and the earlier £16 million report reflects timing and the reported deal structure:
| Report | Figure or terms | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Sky Sports, 26 August 2020 | £16 million agreed fee, up to £4 million in achievable add-ons, and a reported 20% sell-on clause | A pre-completion report of the proposed structure; it does not establish that every add-on was achieved or specify payment timing. |
| BBC Sport, 28 August 2020 | £19.5 million | The reported headline fee for the completed transfer. |
| Premier League, 28 August 2020 | Fee undisclosed | Official confirmation of the transfer, but not a public fee breakdown. |
(Sky Sports; BBC Sport; Premier League)
The available reporting does not establish the final amount paid after add-ons, the instalment schedule, or the exact accounting treatment. It is safest to call £19.5 million the widely reported fee rather than say QPR officially confirmed receiving that sum.

What do QPR’s accounts say about the money?
For the year ending May 2021, QPR reported a £17.6 million profit on player sales and an overall loss of £4.5 million, according to The Standard’s account of the club’s figures. Those are season-wide accounting results, not a statement that Eze alone brought in £17.6 million. A transfer fee and a profit on player sales are different measures, and the reported figures do not provide a one-to-one breakdown of Eze’s proceeds. (The Standard)
The financial backdrop helps explain why the sale mattered. QPR revenue for that financial year was reported at £14.5 million, with pandemic-era matchday restrictions weighing on income. The £17.6 million player-sales profit helped reduce the overall loss, but did not eliminate it. (The Standard)

Did QPR spend Eze’s money on new players?
The Guardian reported in October 2021 that Eze’s sale helped facilitate QPR’s acquisitions of Chris Willock and Rob Dickie. That supports saying the transfer contributed to the club’s capacity to build the squad; it does not show that QPR ring-fenced the fee or directly allocated a specific amount to either player. (The Guardian)
QPR’s director of football, Les Ferdinand, described the sale as necessary for the club to grow and progress in difficult economic conditions: “You never want to lose one of your best players but the situation dictates that it’s necessary so that we can, ultimately, grow and progress,” he said. Why did Eze command such a significant fee?
Eze joined Palace after a productive season in the Championship. The Premier League said he made 46 appearances for QPR in the preceding campaign, scoring 14 goals and providing eight assists. Those figures provide context for the reported valuation, though they do not reveal how the clubs negotiated the fee. (Premier League)
