How RetailMeNot works
RetailMeNot brings together retailer promo codes, cashback offers, and shopping-discovery features through its app and browser extension. Its Google Play listing describes code validation, an in-app rewards wallet, monthly bonus rewards, personalized recommendations, Smart Search, price alerts, and Scout Price, which the company labels beta. RetailMeNot’s August 2026 announcement also promotes a minimum 1% cashback across more than 3,500 participating merchants in the app, plus qualifying loyalty bonuses. Promo codes reduce the price at checkout
A promo code can lower the amount due if it is valid for the retailer, items, and order conditions. Some codes may be restricted by minimum spend, product exclusions, or timing. Check the cart after applying the code: the discount shown in the order total is the immediate saving, and a code listed on RetailMeNot is not proof it will work on your particular purchase.
Cashback is a later, conditional reward
For online cashback, RetailMeNot’s terms require clicking the offer link shortly before buying and completing the qualifying purchase in the same shopping session. The purchase must satisfy the offer’s minimum spend and other conditions, and be made in U.S. dollars. In-store cashback offers may require activating the offer and submitting a readable receipt with the required transaction details. Check the individual offer for its steps and restrictions rather than assuming the online process applies.

RetailMeNot’s terms identify several reasons a reward may be denied or adjusted:

- The order is returned or canceled.
- The purchase occurs outside the offer period or misses a minimum-spend requirement.
- The order includes excluded items or otherwise fails the offer’s conditions.
- Another site receives attribution for the purchase, or the order uses a coupon code not supplied by RetailMeNot.
- Cookies are disabled or an ad blocker interferes with tracking. The terms advise against disabling cookies or enabling an ad blocker for an online cashback purchase.
Offer availability, counts, and terms can vary, and promotions can change or end. A reward shown as pending is not the same as an approved, redeemable balance. RetailMeNot’s terms require a qualifying balance of at least $5.01 before redemption. RetailMeNot terms
Does RetailMeNot actually save you money?
It can, but the useful measure is your own purchase—not the platform’s total payout. A working code that lowers the order total is a direct discount. Cashback can add value if the transaction tracks, meets the terms, is approved, and you redeem the reward. If cashback is not approved, or if the offer leads you to buy something you did not need, it has not reduced your effective spending.

RetailMeNot’s Android listing says it has paid shoppers over $110 million in cashback. A January 2026 company announcement reported more than $100 million paid to consumers and $1.7 billion in retailer sales facilitated by cashback offers. These are company-published aggregate figures, not independent measurements of typical savings per user. The figures also use different dates and descriptions, so they should not be treated as directly comparable. The Android listing says its savings guarantee excludes Amazon and food merchants. How to check whether an offer is worth using
- Compare the final price. Apply any available code and inspect the checkout total, including shipping, before deciding.
- Read the specific cashback offer. Confirm the merchant, eligible items, minimum purchase, dates, and exclusions.
- Activate and click through immediately before buying. Keep the purchase in the same shopping session, and avoid intervening referral links or unsupported coupon codes that could affect attribution.
- Protect tracking. For online cashback, leave cookies enabled and do not use an ad blocker if it would interfere with the tracking described in the terms.
- Keep proof for in-store offers. If a receipt is required, follow the offer’s submission instructions and ensure the receipt is readable and includes the requested transaction information.
- Wait for approval before counting the reward. Account for returns, cancellations, approval, and the $5.01 redemption threshold when estimating what you will actually receive.
How RetailMeNot makes money
RetailMeNot’s Google Play listing discloses: “When you buy through links on RetailMeNot, we may earn a commission.” That referral model helps explain why shopping through a tracked link matters to cashback attribution. The available terms and listing do not state commission rates or establish that commissions determine which offers are displayed.
