How Dejphon Chansiri Made His Money—and What the $575 Million Figure Actually Means

The reported $575 million estimate refers to the Chansiri family, not a verified personal net worth for Dejphon Chansiri. Thai Union shareholdings and Sheffield Wednesday’s dated ownership history offer important context.

The often-cited $575 million figure is a historical estimate of the Chansiri family’s wealth attributed to Forbes—not a verified estimate of Dejphon Chansiri’s personal net worth. The clearest documented source of the family’s business wealth is its stake in Thai Union, the seafood company. Chansiri’s investment in Sheffield Wednesday brought him public attention, but club spending and loans do not establish his personal fortune.

Is Dejphon Chansiri worth $575 million?

That figure should not be presented as Chansiri’s confirmed individual net worth. The National reported in January 2026 that Forbes had last estimated the Chansiri family’s wealth at $575 million. The available report does not identify the original estimate’s date or methodology, and it does not establish how much of that family wealth belongs to Dejphon personally. The National’s January 2026 account also described him as the club’s owner at that time.

No reliable, current individual net-worth figure or complete personal balance sheet is established by the cited reporting. The $575 million number is best understood as a reported historical family estimate, not a current valuation of one person’s assets after debts and other liabilities.

How is the Chansiri family’s wealth connected to Thai Union?

Thai Union Group, a major seafood business, is the central documented link between the family and its wealth. In its 2025 annual report, Thai Union listed 786,400,168 shares held by the Chansiri family, representing 17.65% of the company. The same report listed Dejphon Chansiri individually with 11,500,000 shares, or 0.26%. Thai Union’s 2025 annual report distinguishes the family holding from Chansiri’s direct stake.

Those figures show share ownership, not the market value of the holdings or Chansiri’s total wealth. The family’s 17.65% cannot be attributed to him personally, and his reported individual holding does not reveal other assets, debts, or private investments. It would therefore be misleading to derive his personal net worth by treating the family’s entire Thai Union stake as his own.

What did Sheffield Wednesday contribute to the story?

Chansiri bought Sheffield Wednesday in 2015 for a reported £37.5 million, according to The Guardian’s 2019 reporting. His ownership became a prominent part of his public profile, but a club’s purchase price is not a measure of its owner’s wealth today, and club financing is not the same as personal income.

The Guardian also reported on sponsorships linked to the owner and on funding provided to the club. The SWFC Supporters Trust has described owner funding as including loans and reported that dividends from Thai Union added income. These are accounts of particular club and business-related flows, not audited evidence of Chansiri’s overall personal finances. The Supporters Trust’s account of Chansiri’s Thai businesses should be read as the Trust’s analysis rather than a personal balance sheet.

Has Chansiri’s wealth changed?

It may have. BBC Sport reported an analyst’s view that the value of Chansiri’s shares and his personal wealth had fallen in recent years. That is an attributed assessment, not an audited current valuation; no precise present-day figure is established by the cited material. BBC Sport’s report on the takeover and sale uncertainty provides that context.

Does Chansiri still own Sheffield Wednesday?

Ownership claims need a date. The Guardian reported in October 2025 that Chansiri had placed Sheffield Wednesday into administration. Its October 2025 account documents that development. In January 2026, The National still called him the current owner while reporting on takeover prospects. Those accounts establish what was being reported at different dates, but do not by themselves resolve the club’s present ownership. Avoid treating “owner” as a timeless description.
