Ahana Gautam co-founded Open Secret in 2019 after leaving corporate roles at Procter & Gamble and General Mills and returning to India. The company’s origin story is also a tribute to her mother, who raised Gautam and her brother as a single parent. The often-cited “₹250-crore” figure refers to a reported company valuation—not annual sales.
Why Gautam left her corporate career
Gautam’s career included work at P&G and General Mills, along with studies at IIT Bombay and Harvard Business School, according to Moneycontrol’s October 2026 profile. The company says she took a one-way flight from the United States to India in 2019 to start Open Secret. The available accounts describe a move from corporate work to entrepreneurship, but do not establish that she left a job at exactly age 30.
The business idea came from an observation about packaged snacks: Gautam saw a gap between the products available and what she wanted families to be able to choose. That was the founding premise, rather than a guarantee that every product would be healthier or nutritionally superior.
How her mother shaped the company’s story
Open Secret’s founder-story page presents the brand as a tribute to Gautam’s mother, who raised Gautam and her brother on her own. Gautam is quoted there saying, “This brand is a love letter from a daughter to her single mother.” The company also attributes to her the line, “It is an Open Secret that we are who we are because of our Mothers.”

That connection is more than a biographical detail in the company’s own account: it gives the brand a family-centered identity. In a 2024 interview summary, Moneycontrol quoted Gautam saying, “Whatever I am today is because of my mother.”
From Nutty Cookies to a wider food business
2019: A first product
Open Secret says it launched with Nutty Cookies in 2019. The cookies gave the new company an initial product around which it could build its snack brand.

2020: Early growth and a work initiative
For 2020, the company reports that it shared more than 1,000,000 cookies, recorded 1200% growth, launched two product lines, and began a program to help mothers return to work. These are company-reported milestones; Open Secret does not define the comparison basis for the growth figure on its history page.
2021–2023: More categories and a platform
Open Secret’s company history describes additional product launches and expansion into 15 categories in 2022. It also says it expanded into a platform featuring more than 100 food and beverage brands. These descriptions reflect the company’s account of its growth and positioning.

The company describes its mission as “UnJunk” and makes claims about its products and ingredients. Those are brand statements; the cited material does not independently validate nutritional benefits or health effects.
What the ₹250-crore figure means
Moneycontrol’s October 2026 profile reports a latest disclosed valuation of about $25.9 million, or nearly ₹250 crore, citing Tracxn. Valuation is an estimate of what a company is worth in a financing or other stated context; it is not the same as the money the business earns from sales.

The same Moneycontrol report, also attributing figures to Tracxn, puts Open Secret’s FY25 revenue at ₹87.5 crore on a standalone basis and around ₹87.3 crore on a consolidated basis. It reports a standalone net loss of around ₹7.2 crore for FY25. These are reported figures, not independently audited findings in the cited profile. The revenue and loss figures help distinguish operating performance from valuation: a high reported valuation does not mean the company made that amount in revenue or profit.
Moneycontrol also reports that Open Secret raised seed funding in 2019, a Series A in 2021, a Series B in 2022, and financing in July 2026. Its account attributes the funding and valuation information to Tracxn; the underlying filings or database records are not cited in the profile.

What Gautam’s story does—and does not—show
Open Secret’s story combines a founder’s career change, an idea about packaged snacks, and a personal tribute to a single mother. The company’s own history documents how it says the product and business expanded; Moneycontrol’s reported financial figures add a separate view of scale and performance.
Those facts do not establish a universal formula for leaving a job or building a successful company. The reported FY25 loss alongside reported revenue is a reminder that revenue growth and profitability are different measures, while valuation is different from both. Gautam’s path is a specific founder story, not a personal-finance recommendation to quit a job or invest in a private company.
