A restaurant acquisition does not guarantee one outcome for customers. The buyer may keep the existing name and menu, rebrand locations, change recipes or service, replace a loyalty program, or introduce new app and gift-card rules. The practical answer depends on the restaurant, the ownership structure, the buyer’s announced strategy, and when your location enters the transition.
Before your next visit, check the restaurant’s current notice, menu, app and loyalty terms for your specific location. Treat a deal announcement as a plan unless the company says a change is already complete.

Why an acquisition can feel different from one restaurant to another
“Acquired” describes a change in ownership, not a standard operating playbook. A buyer might purchase a parent company, a franchise group, selected stores, a licensing agreement or only certain assets. Each structure can leave different authority with the seller, franchisees, landlords or local operators.
The buyer’s strategy also matters. Some buyers use an acquisition to add locations to an existing brand. Others preserve the acquired name while they study performance. A third approach is a staged conversion in which stores operate under the old identity for a period and then adopt the buyer’s brand, menu, technology and marketing. None of these approaches creates a universal rule for rewards, gift cards, prices or closures.

Announcements usually describe intended actions at a particular date. They may not cover every franchise, licensed site or independently operated location. A company can also revise its plan as leases expire, permits are approved, supply contracts change or local sales data arrives.
Brand identity and signs may stay—or change
When the buyer keeps the existing brand
In a franchisee communication filed on August 25, 2025, Potbelly said, “Importantly, this acquisition will not change who we are as a brand.” The statement emphasized growth opportunities and continued attention to customer experience. It is the company’s transaction-time communication, not an independently verified promise that every operating detail would remain identical. Keeping a name can still allow changes behind the counter. Ownership may change suppliers, training, labor scheduling, technology, seating, hours, prices or remodel standards while the exterior sign remains the same. Customers who care about a particular product or service should verify that item directly rather than infer continuity from the logo.
When locations are rebranded
Biscuit Belly’s media FAQ, last updated July 21, 2026, says the company is acquiring 35 Maple Street Biscuit Company locations and plans to transition them to the Biscuit Belly brand over two years. That is a stated rollout plan, not confirmation that every location has completed the change. Details are available in the company’s media FAQ.
A rebrand can change exterior signs, ordering screens, packaging, uniforms, recipes, operating hours and the loyalty account customers see in the app. A location may close briefly for construction or continue serving customers during a phased conversion. Search by address, not only by brand name, when checking whether your store has changed.

Menu options can be preserved, edited or replaced
Possible menu changes
New ownership may retain signature items to protect recognition while removing low-selling dishes, simplifying kitchen preparation or aligning ingredients with the buyer’s supply chain. It may add products from the acquiring brand, change portion sizes, modify recipes for cost or availability, or introduce a limited menu during training.
Original Hooters’ 2025 acquisition announcement described restaurant upgrades, service priorities and a streamlined menu that included the return of selected dishes. How to verify what is available
- Open the location-specific menu on the official website or app on the day you plan to order.
- Check modifiers and substitutions; a dish can remain listed while ingredients or customization rules change.
- Look for a temporary, transition or limited menu notice before assuming a seasonal item is available.
- Ask the store about allergen information when recipes or suppliers may have changed.
Third-party delivery menus can lag behind a restaurant’s own menu. If an item appears in one channel but not another, confirm with the location before placing an order.
Rewards, apps and account balances are not automatically portable
Why rewards rules differ
Loyalty programs are contracts or terms of use tied to a particular operator and ordering system. An acquisition can leave the program intact, migrate accounts to a new platform, issue replacement points, pause earning during conversion or end participation at selected stores. A customer’s prior visits do not by themselves establish that points, coupons or status will transfer.
Ordering channel can matter as much as ownership. Jollibee USA’s Rewards FAQ distinguishes eligible first-party orders from third-party delivery and sets different earning and redemption restrictions. Review the current Rewards FAQ before assuming an order will generate points or accept an offer.

Licensed and company-operated locations may receive different benefits
In a December 3, 2025 announcement, Chick-fil-A said it planned to evaluate certain licensed sites for conversion to Owner-Operator-led restaurants over several years. The announcement said customers at converted restaurants would be able to use the Chick-fil-A app and Chick-fil-A One membership program and redeem branded gift cards—features not available at the licensed locations described there. Two locations with the same sign can have different app support, earning rules, payment acceptance or promotional eligibility during a transition.
What to check in your account
- Whether your existing email address, phone number or account ID will be migrated.
- Whether points expire, convert at a stated rate or remain frozen during the changeover.
- Whether rewards can be earned and redeemed for in-store, first-party pickup, drive-through and third-party delivery orders.
- Whether coupons issued before the acquisition remain valid and what expiration date applies.
- Whether you must accept new terms or create a new account to retain benefits.
Save screenshots of your balance and unredeemed offers before a scheduled migration. Keep receipts for disputed transactions and contact the program through the support channel named in the current terms.
Gift cards and stored-value balances require separate confirmation
A gift card may be issued by a parent company, franchisee, licensee or a centralized program administrator. The party that sold the card, the entity operating your store and the entity that now owns the brand may not be the same. Consequently, a card that worked at one location before an acquisition may be restricted to certain stores, channels or regions afterward.
A 2026 Baja Fresh franchise disclosure document provides a brand-specific example of centralized gift-card and loyalty rules and describes the possibility of transition periods when program terms change. It is a franchise disclosure document, not a general rule for all restaurants or customers. Before relying on a balance, check the card’s terms and the restaurant’s current notice for the affected location. Confirm whether the card is accepted in-store, online, through the app, at franchised stores or only at company-operated restaurants. If the card is rejected, record the card number, purchase receipt and error message and ask customer support which entity now services the balance.
Expiration dates, inactivity fees, liability for unredeemed value and unclaimed-property treatment can depend on the card terms, transaction details and jurisdiction. The available company examples do not establish a blanket legal answer, so do not assume an acquisition either cancels or guarantees your balance.
Changes can roll out over months or years
A transaction announcement is often the beginning of a process. Rebranding, technology migration, menu retraining and lease decisions may occur in waves. One location might change immediately while another keeps the former menu and rewards system for months. Biscuit Belly’s stated two-year conversion plan and Chick-fil-A’s plan to evaluate certain licensed sites over several years demonstrate why timing and location coverage belong in every customer question.
Look for an effective date, a list of affected addresses and a description of what happens during the interim. If a notice says “planned,” “evaluating,” “over the next several years” or similar language, treat the change as pending. If it names a launch date and says the conversion is complete, verify that the local store reflects it before traveling.
A practical checklist before your next visit
- Identify the exact location. Record the street address and whether it is franchised, licensed or company-operated if the notice provides that information.
- Search official channels. Check the restaurant’s website, location page, app inbox and social announcements for a notice naming your store and an effective date.
- Review the current menu. Confirm signature dishes, prices, allergens, operating hours and ordering channels on the location’s own menu.
- Check rewards terms. Verify your points balance, offer eligibility, redemption rules and whether a third-party order qualifies.
- Check stored value. Confirm that your gift card or loaded account funds are accepted at that address and through your intended payment channel.
- Save evidence. Keep screenshots of balances, offer expiration dates, gift-card numbers and receipts before a migration.
- Ask targeted questions. Contact support or the store with the address, account identifier and transaction date; ask what changed, when it takes effect and which entity handles unresolved balances.
How to compare two acquisition announcements
When deciding what an acquisition means for you, compare announcements using the same four dimensions rather than relying on headlines.

- The sign is unchanged, but the menu is smaller. The buyer may be standardizing preparation or removing low-volume items while preserving the brand.
- The store has a new sign, but old coupons still appear in your account. Do not assume they work; confirm whether the offer migrated and whether the location is eligible.
- Your points display correctly, but a delivery order earns nothing. The program may limit earning to first-party channels, as described in some restaurant reward terms.
- A gift card works at one address but not another. Different franchise, license or operating systems may apply during the transition.
- The announcement mentions a future conversion, but staff have no details. The local rollout may not have reached that store; rely on the effective date and location notice when available.
What the acquisition means for your household budget
Menu and program changes can alter the value you receive even when the restaurant remains open. A removed low-cost item, changed portion, higher price or unavailable coupon affects the cost of a routine meal. A points migration can also change when a discount becomes usable, while a gift-card restriction can tie up money until you find an eligible location or channel.
For a planned visit, compare the current location menu with the price and availability you normally rely on. If you have a large stored balance, avoid buying additional cards until the operator confirms acceptance and transition terms. Use only the official support route for questions about account value; do not send card numbers through an unverified social-media account.

It might, but the outcome is location- and deal-specific. A buyer can promise to preserve a brand, plan a staged rebrand, revise the menu, expand app access or change loyalty and gift-card administration. The only dependable way to know what you can order, earn or redeem is to match the current notice and terms to your exact restaurant and the date of your visit.
