#1 Best Overall
- Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
What storage upgrades cost
- Moving from 128GB to 256GB cost $150 more on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus and iPhone 16 Pro.
- Moving from 256GB to 512GB cost $300 more on models offering both capacities.
- Moving from 512GB to 1TB cost $300 more on the Pro models.
- The iPhone 16 Pro Max had no 128GB version. It began at 256GB.
That makes the Pro Max appear $300 more expensive than the entry-level Pro, but the comparison is not storage-for-storage: the Pro starts at 128GB, while the Pro Max starts at 256GB. At 256GB, the Pro Max was $150 more than the iPhone 16 Pro.
Which iPhone 16 is the cheapest large-screen model?
The iPhone 16 Plus was the less expensive large-screen option at launch, starting at $1,279 for 128GB. The iPhone 16 Pro Max started at $1,749 for 256GB—a $470 difference at the entry level.
The Plus also cost $150 more than the standard iPhone 16 at each matching storage tier. The Pro Max’s premium reflected its Pro positioning, larger display and battery, and higher 256GB starting capacity.

Before tax does not mean final cost
The prices above are device prices before provincial sales tax. Your checkout total depends on where you live in Canada. AppleCare+, accessories, activation charges and other optional purchases are not included.
Apple’s direct price generally represents an outright purchase of the device. A carrier’s monthly price is not directly comparable unless you also include the complete financing term, required wireless plan, upfront payment, taxes, trade-in credits and any final buyout or return obligation.
Apple versus carrier financing
Canadian carriers may offer monthly financing, promotional bill credits, trade-in incentives or return-style programs such as “Bring-It-Back” and similar arrangements. These offers change frequently, so a low advertised phone payment should not automatically be treated as a cheaper purchase.
Rank #4
- Titanium frame combines strength and lightness, giving the iPhone 16 Pro a premium feel while reducing weight for prolonged daily use. The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
Before choosing a carrier deal, calculate:
- All device payments over the full 24- or 36-month term.
- The required wireless-plan cost.
- Any upfront payment, activation fee or interest.
- Whether promotional credits require uninterrupted service.
- The final buyout amount or device-return condition.
- What happens if you cancel early or the phone is damaged.
Buying directly from Apple Canada may suit buyers who want an unlocked phone and no carrier financing obligation. A carrier may be cheaper only after its complete terms are included in the comparison.
Apple’s launch trade-in offer
In September 2024, Apple said Canadian customers could receive $200 to $905 CAD toward an iPhone 16 when trading in an eligible iPhone 12 or newer. The amount depended on the exact model, condition and eligibility. This was a launch-era offer, not a current August 2026 valuation. Check Apple’s Apple Trade In page for a current estimate.
Which model made sense for which buyer?
- iPhone 16: The lowest-cost entry point, suitable for buyers who wanted a 6.1-inch phone and did not need Pro camera or display features.
- iPhone 16 Plus: The lower-priced large-screen choice, costing $150 more than the standard model at matching storage.
- iPhone 16 Pro: The least expensive route to Pro features, with a smaller form factor and a 128GB starting option.
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: The largest display and battery, with 256GB included at entry level and a $300 higher starting price than the Pro.
As a general planning guide, 128GB may suit lighter users who stream content and use cloud storage. 256GB is a practical middle ground for frequent photography, large apps or multi-year ownership. Heavy video users may prefer 512GB, while 1TB is mainly for people who routinely record high-resolution or Pro video.

Launch prices versus current prices
These figures describe the September 2024 launch, not the current Canadian retail market. Apple’s store pages can show different prices, models or availability over time. For example, an Apple Canada product page observed during research listed one 128GB iPhone 16 configuration at $1,149 CAD rather than its $1,129 launch price. That single listing is not a complete nationwide price audit.
For current availability and pricing, consult Apple’s Canadian iPhone shopping page and dated offers from individual carriers. Used, refurbished and carrier inventory should be compared separately because condition, warranty and financing terms differ from Apple’s unlocked launch pricing.
