Yes. By February 7, 2026, local outlet FREOVIEW reported that the former Old Shanghai site was open as Fremantle Food Court. The June 2025 lease announcement had forecast a reopening later that year, but that was an expectation—not a confirmed opening date. The latest reports available here do not establish the venue’s hours, full stall list or operating status as of October 2026.
When was Old Shanghai in Fremantle expected to reopen?
In June 2025, PerthNow reported that a new leaseholder would reinvigorate the historic food hall after the site had been empty for about two years. The announcement anticipated reopening later in 2025, but did not confirm a specific date. PerthNow’s report and Ray White Commercial’s announcement describe the plan as a forecast.
Has Old Shanghai reopened, and what is the venue called?
FREOVIEW reported on February 7, 2026, that the site was open as Fremantle Food Court. An earlier report from January 8 said it was trading under that name with limited stalls and Friday-to-Sunday service during a temporary gas supply issue. The later report said the food court was open after the gas issue. Read the January update and the February update.
The February report places the food court in Henderson Street Mall, opposite Fremantle Markets. The site is in the Piercy Building, which the 2025 announcement sources date to 1897; it is near Fremantle Markets and Fremantle’s Cappuccino Strip. PerthNow, Ray White Commercial and FREOVIEW provide those location and building details.

What was planned, and what was reported open?
The leaseholder announcement described a planned food and culture hub combining fresh flavours, updated design and community engagement. It said more detailed dining plans would follow. The later February 2026 report described a food-court format with Japanese, sate, pizza and Malaysian food stalls, as well as a cafe. Those are reported offerings at that time, not a verified current vendor list.
PerthNow attributed this statement to Ray White Commercial’s Victor Aloi: “I am thrilled to see this iconic location leased once again,” Mr Aloi said. “There’s a strong sense of nostalgia attached to this site, but also a lot of excitement about what’s next. The new tenants bring with them a vision that aligns beautifully with Fremantle’s creative, diverse, and inclusive spirit.” PerthNow’s article carries the quotation.

What should visitors check before going?
The reports establish that Fremantle Food Court had reopened by February 2026, but they do not verify its October 2026 status, current opening hours, complete stall lineup or whether a bar is operating. Check the venue’s current listings or contact it before making a special trip.
The sources reviewed do not provide attributable visitor counts, revenue, tenant totals or economic-impact figures. The 1897 date is historical context about the building, not a measure of the venue’s performance. The cited material does not substantiate such figures.
