Google AI Plus launched in the U.S. on January 27, 2026, at $7.99 per month with 200GB of storage. That is no longer the current U.S. offer: as of August 18, 2026, Google lists AI Plus at $4.99 per month with 400GB, along with higher Gemini usage limits, Flow credits, NotebookLM features, and family sharing.

The January launch expanded Google AI Plus to 35 additional countries and territories. The 35-market figure describes that expansion—not the plan’s total availability today.

What changed after the U.S. launch?

Google announced the U.S. expansion on January 27, 2026. At launch, the plan cost $7.99 per month and included 200GB of storage shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos.

Google later changed the U.S. offer. Its current subscription page lists:

What Google AI Plus includes

AI Plus is a bundle of Google services rather than simply a paid chatbot. Depending on account, location, age, rollout status, and system capacity, the package can include:

  • Plan, create, and get more done with help from Gemini, your built-in AI assistant[3]; have it screen spam calls while you focus[6]; chat with Gemini to brainstorm your meal plan[7], or bring your ideas to life with Nano Banana[8]
  • Gemini access: More usage access and additional Gemini capabilities than the free tier.
  • Google Flow: Access to Google’s AI filmmaking tools. The current U.S. page shows 200 Flow credits.
  • Image, music, and video generation: Higher or additional access to supported generation features.
  • NotebookLM: More access to research and writing features than the free offering.
  • Gemini in Google apps: Integrations including Gmail, Vids, and other supported Google applications.
  • Cloud storage: 400GB in the current U.S. offer, shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos.
  • Family sharing: Benefits can be shared with up to five additional people, although Google describes this as select benefits rather than a guarantee that every feature works identically for every family member.

These benefits do not mean unlimited AI use. Google says limits can vary by model, feature, prompt complexity, geography, account, experimentation, and system capacity. “More access” should be read as a higher allowance than free Gemini—not unrestricted access to every model or tool. See Google’s Gemini usage-limit documentation for the applicable qualifications.

AI Plus versus free Gemini

The free version remains suitable for occasional questions and basic AI use. AI Plus adds value in three main ways:

  1. More usage: Google currently advertises twice the free tier’s usage access, though actual limits vary by feature and model.
  2. More bundled tools: Subscribers receive access to additional Gemini, Flow, NotebookLM, and Google-app features as available in their market.
  3. Storage: The current U.S. plan includes 400GB, which can matter to people whose Gmail, Photos, or Drive accounts are approaching their free storage allowance.

The upgrade is less meaningful if you use Gemini only occasionally, do not need cloud storage, or primarily want a standalone AI assistant outside Google’s ecosystem.

AI Plus versus Google AI Pro

Google positions AI Plus below Google AI Pro. Pro is intended for people who need higher limits, broader access, more advanced capabilities, or substantially more storage. AI Plus is the lower-cost compromise: it provides a larger allowance than free Gemini without promising Pro-level quotas.

Choose Pro instead when you regularly hit AI Plus limits, need more storage than 400GB, or depend on features reserved for the higher tier. Choose Plus when your use is moderate and the combination of Gemini access and several hundred gigabytes of storage is enough.

Google’s plan names and storage tiers have changed, and some documentation may show AI Plus configurations with different storage amounts. Compare the exact benefits, renewal price, and storage shown in your own Google One account rather than relying only on the plan name. The official comparison is available on Google’s AI plans page.

Google Pixel 10 Pro - Unlocked Smartphone with Gemini - Obsidian - 128 GB
  • Google Pixel 10 Pro is the ultimate Pixel experience, featuring advanced AI with Gemini, unbelievable camera quality, impeccable design in two sizes, and the next-gen Google Tensor G5 chip[1]
  • Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan[2]; it works - Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
  • Get a head start on syncing your data before it even arrives: After you purchase your new Pixel, look for an email that explains how to transfer your photos, videos, passwords, and more in just a few quick steps[11]
  • Pixel’s pro camera system makes everything look amazing, even in low light; capture more of the scene with advanced Google AI models, and bring out incredible details with 100x Pro Res Zoom, stunning 50 MP images, and super steady videos in 8K[10]
  • Pixel 10 Pro is built with durable aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for scratch and drop resistance; the 6.3-inch Super Actua display with 3,300-nit peak brightness is easy on the eyes, even in direct sunlight[3,13,18]

Who should consider AI Plus?

  • Google storage users: The plan may make sense if you already need more space for Drive, Gmail, or Photos.
  • Moderate Gemini users: It suits people who use AI regularly but do not need the highest available limits.
  • Students, freelancers, and casual creators: Flow, NotebookLM, writing tools, and generation features provide a lower-cost entry point to Google’s AI ecosystem.
  • Families: Sharing with up to five additional people can improve the value, provided the included benefits meet everyone’s needs.

Who should skip it?

  • Heavy AI users: Frequent limit warnings may justify comparing Google AI Pro instead.
  • People who need 2TB or more: 400GB may not be enough, and a different storage or AI tier could be more appropriate.
  • Non-Google users: The bundle’s value falls if you rarely use Gmail, Drive, Photos, NotebookLM, or Google’s apps.
  • Business users: AI Plus is a consumer membership requiring a personal Google Account. It is not a substitute for organizational administration, compliance controls, or enterprise plans.
  • Occasional AI users: Free Gemini may be sufficient if you rarely reach usage limits and do not need extra storage.

Availability, eligibility, and feature restrictions

Google’s January announcement covered 35 countries and territories. That wording matters: the figure includes territories and special jurisdictions, not only sovereign states.

Google’s current pages do not use one consistent total-availability figure. The Gemini subscription page says AI Plus is available in more than 160 countries and territories, while a Google One page refers to more than 140 countries and territories for Google’s AI plans. Treat those figures as page-specific and time-sensitive. For the applicable country list, use Google’s current eligibility and country documentation.

You generally need to reside in an eligible market and use a personal Google Account. Some features have additional age requirements. Google lists an 18-plus requirement for features including Deep Research, Gemini in Gmail, and Google Flow. Flow prompts and responses are currently English-only according to Google’s support information.

How to sign up

  1. Sign in to Google with a personal account.
  2. Open Google One.
  3. Select Google AI Plus from the available membership options.
  4. Review the local price, included benefits, and payment date.
  5. Choose a payment method and confirm the subscription.

Google says AI Plus may also be manageable through the Gemini app in supported environments. If you already have a Google One, partner, or Pixel-related subscription, the available upgrade path can differ.

How to switch or cancel

To change plans, open Google One, select Manage membership, choose Change membership plan, review the new benefits and price, and confirm. The options shown can depend on your current plan, billing channel, partner subscription, and account status.

To cancel, open Google One settings, select Manage membership, choose Cancel membership, and confirm. When the membership ends, you lose AI Plus benefits, expanded storage, and Gemini integrations tied to the plan. If your account is using more storage than the free allowance, review the consequences before cancellation.

Bottom line

Google AI Plus was a significant U.S. launch because it brought a lower-priced paid AI tier to Google’s consumer ecosystem. But the headline price has changed: the plan launched at $7.99 with 200GB, while the current U.S. listing is $4.99 with 400GB.

At the current price, AI Plus is most compelling for Google users who want moderate Gemini access, additional creative and research tools, and more storage. It is less attractive for heavy AI users, people outside Google’s ecosystem, and anyone who needs large storage or business controls. Before subscribing, verify the local renewal price and the exact feature limits shown for your account.
