Why a possible energy truce mattered
President Donald Trump said Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate ceasefire on attacks against each other’s energy facilities, following a U.S. diesel-supply deal with Moscow. Reuters described this as an announced agreement. Traders could interpret it as a signal that Russian fuel supply might increase or supply pressure ease, potentially reducing one source of energy-price and inflation risk. How Middle East risks pulled the other way
The reports described renewed violence in the region, including an attack on Saudi Arabia’s King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Sunday after a Saturday strike in which deaths and hundreds of injuries were reported. Coverage attributed Houthi attacks to retaliation for what the group called Saudi aggression; those claims and incident details are attributed to the reporting, not independently verified here. Escalation can heighten uncertainty and support demand for gold as a perceived safe-haven asset. If violence threatens energy flows, however, it can also raise fuel costs, add to inflation concerns and strengthen expectations of tighter monetary policy. Because gold pays no interest, higher yields can make it less attractive relative to yield-bearing assets. The same event can therefore support gold through risk demand while weighing on it through rate expectations.

Investment demand offered additional support
Investing.com reported that China added 740,000 ounces to its gold reserves in September, extending its reported buying streak to 23 consecutive months; the outlet attributed the reserve information to official data. It also said gold-backed ETF inflows had reached a four-year high, citing Bloomberg data, and attributed the interpretation of demand to ANZ analysts. The underlying official release and ETF-flow series were not available in the reporting, so these figures remain attributed report claims rather than independently checked measurements.
