Girls in Tech, Inc. announced in July 2024 that it was closing after 17 years. Founder Adriana Gascoigne said the organization had reached more than 250,000 people through 35 chapters in 30 countries. The announcement marked the end of the global organization and brand, but does not establish that every local chapter stopped operating.
When did Girls in Tech close?
Girls in Tech announced its closure in July 2024. In the closure announcement, founder and CEO Adriana Gascoigne described a 17-year run and wrote: “Together, we’ve reached over 250,000 people across 35 chapters in 30 countries.” Those figures are the organization’s own description of its reach, not an independently audited impact measure or a current membership count.
Why did Girls in Tech close?
The Washington Post reported that the organization’s closure followed funding losses. According to the newspaper, five key donors withdrew their funding in one week in late 2023, citing market turbulence. That reporting provides funding context; the closure announcement did not publish a detailed financial account.

- Hackathons, the Girls in Tech Conference and a startup challenge.
- A podcast, blog, jobs board and shop.
These were historical offerings; their inclusion in coverage of the organization does not mean they remain available after the closure.
Did every Girls in Tech chapter close?
The July 2024 announcement concerned the global organization and brand. It should not be read as proof that every local group ended. ITnation reported that Girls in Tech Luxembourg rebranded as WeSTEM+ after the global closure. That example shows a local group continued under a new identity, but it does not establish the status of other chapters.

Is there a successor organization or program?
The available reporting does not verify a general successor organization or a replacement mentoring or technology-education program. A local rebrand in Luxembourg is not evidence of a worldwide successor. Anyone looking for a current program should confirm its operating status, location, age eligibility, costs and whether it offers instruction, mentoring or networking before relying on it.
