Freedom Mobile’s August 26, 2025 annual-prepaid refresh raised the $119 and $149 tiers by $10 per year, while increasing their annual data from 15GB to 20GB and from 30GB to 40GB. The $99 plan remained $99. Freedom initially tied 5G+ to the refreshed plans, but on July 24, 2026 it announced 5G+ access for all plans at no extra charge, subject to a compatible phone, SIM and coverage.
The annual plans, then and now

The higher allotments reduce the annual cost per included gigabyte: about $7.93 to $6.45 on the mid-tier, and about $4.97 to $3.98 on the higher tier. That improvement matters only if you can use the extra data before the annual term ends.
What each tier includes
$99 annual plan
The entry plan stayed at $99. Reported terms included unlimited talk and unlimited incoming texts; outgoing texts cost $0.05 each, and additional data cost $15 per 1GB. Those charges make the plan most suitable for people who use Wi-Fi heavily, send few SMS messages and need little mobile data.

$129 annual plan
The replacement for the $119/15GB LTE plan provides 20GB for the year. It was described as including unlimited talk and text. The $10 increase buys 5GB more annual data, but not 20GB every month.
$159 annual plan
The replacement for the $149/30GB LTE plan provides 40GB for the year and was described as including unlimited talk and text. The extra $10 supplies 10GB more annual data.
Annual data requires a usage check
At an even pace, 20GB supports roughly 1.7GB per month, while 40GB supports roughly 3.3GB per month. Someone using 3GB every month would exhaust 20GB in about six to seven months. The same usage would consume 40GB in about 13 months, assuming no unusual usage spikes.

Actual rollover, expiry and add-on rules can depend on the customer’s plan terms. Check those terms before relying on unused data or planning to add data later.
What 5G+ does—and does not—mean
Freedom’s current information says 5G/5G+ requires all four conditions below:
- A plan enabled for 5G/5G+.
- A compatible 5G phone.
- A compatible SIM card.
- Location within a Freedom 5G/5G+ coverage area.
Outside a 5G area, LTE may be available where Freedom has coverage. Freedom says theoretical peak 5G+ download speeds can reach up to 900Mbps in select cities, but real performance varies with location, buildings, congestion, device capability and other network conditions. See Freedom’s current support and policy information. A 5G label is network access, not a guarantee of speed or unlimited data.

What changed after the 2025 refresh?
On July 24, 2026, Freedom announced that all of its plans would receive 5G+ access at no additional charge, still subject to a compatible device, SIM and coverage. The company said the expansion would add enhanced 5G/5G+ connectivity to more than 500,000 additional Canadians and that approximately 400,000 customers could be notified of immediate access. The announcement named expansion in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia, including Kingston, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Welland, Waterloo, Barrie, Airdrie, Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan, Delta, Langley, North Vancouver, Port Moody and Coquitlam. Existing customers and renewal pricing
Contemporary reporting said Freedom indicated that existing customers would not face a price increase at renewal, but it also highlighted uncertainty for some customers on the old $119/15GB plan. That statement should not be treated as a universal, permanent guarantee without the customer’s written Freedom terms or account notice.

Distinguish among customers whose annual term has not ended, those renewing after the old plan was withdrawn, people who voluntarily switch plans and accounts that lapsed before renewal. Before accepting a renewal, check:
- The plan name or SKU in My Account.
- Your original annual renewal date.
- The renewal notice and confirmation amount.
- Whether you manually changed plans.
- Whether the account ever lapsed.
- Whether the quoted amount includes taxes, add-ons or other charges.
Save screenshots and written notices if the amount differs from what you expected, then contact Freedom support.

Freedom’s current Price Freeze Promise protects the wireless rate-plan price, before discounts and credits, for plans a customer subscribes to and maintains. It does not cover taxes or levies, device financing, add-ons, one-time passes, pay-per-use charges or other additional fees. The policy is not protection against every increase on a bill.

Freedom’s support page also says the $5 Digital Discount is unavailable for Prepaid By The Year plans. Do not subtract that discount from the annual prices. See the prepaid billing FAQ.
Which option fits your usage?
Choose the $99 plan when
- You are a very light-data user who mainly uses Wi-Fi.
- You rarely send outgoing SMS messages.
- The lowest upfront annual payment matters most.
Choose $129/20GB when
- Your total mobile use is moderate and spread across the year.
- You prefer one annual payment instead of monthly billing.
- You would otherwise buy frequent data add-ons.
Choose $159/40GB when
- Your average use remains below roughly 3GB per month.
- The extra 10GB is worth $10 over the year.
- You want a low annualized cost without an unlimited monthly plan.
Consider monthly or shorter-term prepaid service when
- Your data needs vary sharply from month to month.
- You regularly need more than 20GB or 40GB in a year, or large amounts in one month.
- You need more generous texting, roaming or hotspot provisions.
- You may move, port out or change plans before a year is complete.
- You do not want to pay the full year upfront.
Check Freedom’s live prepaid offers for current availability and terms. Monthly BYOP options are listed at Freedom’s bring-your-own-phone page. Verify local service with the coverage information before paying annually.
If your phone does not show 5G
A compatible plan alone is insufficient. Verify that the phone supports Freedom’s relevant 5G bands, the SIM is compatible, your address is in a 5G/5G+ area and the account has been provisioned. Check the phone’s network-mode setting and test again after temporary local network conditions change. If all checks pass, contact Freedom rather than assuming the annual plan excludes 5G.

The Bottom Line
The 2025 change was a mixed price-and-value adjustment: the $119 and $149 annual tiers became $129/20GB and $159/40GB, while the $99 tier stayed unchanged. Since Freedom’s July 2026 announcement extends 5G+ to all plans, your decision should center on annual data use, the $99 texting and add-on charges, coverage and your willingness to prepay.
