Freedom Mobile’s February 24, 2026 Total Freedom refresh raised the advertised price of six main plans by $1 a month. It also made Roam Beyond data recurring on the lower-priced 10GB and 60GB plans. That is a meaningful improvement for customers who travel internationally regularly—but not a blanket upgrade: some midrange plans lost international data, and the lineup changed again through the spring and summer.
The February lineup below is therefore a historical comparison, not a current September 2026 price list. Check Freedom’s live plan page for today’s prices, promotions and data allowances.

What changed on February 24, 2026?
Freedom’s refresh changed three things at once:
- Advertised prices increased by $1 per month across the six principal Total Freedom plans announced that day.
- The $35 and $40 plans changed from one-time Roam Beyond allotments to recurring monthly international data.
- Domestic, North American and international data allowances were reshuffled. Some plans received less roaming data, while the top tier received more.
Freedom positioned the plans as including Canada-U.S.-Mexico data, 5G+ access, and unlimited talk and text in Canada and eligible Roam Beyond destinations, subject to the applicable terms. Its announcement also said the network reached 99% of Canadians—a carrier claim, not independent coverage testing. The launch information is available in Freedom’s announcement.

| February 24 plan | Previous plan | What changed |
|---|---|---|
| $35 / 10GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico + 1GB Roam Beyond | $34 / 10GB + one-time 1GB Roam Beyond | $1 more; international data became recurring monthly |
| $40 / 60GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico + 5GB Roam Beyond | $39 / 70GB + one-time 5GB Roam Beyond | $1 more; 10GB less North American data; international data became recurring |
| $50 / 100GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico + 10GB Roam Beyond | $49 / 100GB + 15GB Roam Beyond | $1 more; 5GB less international data |

| $80 / 250GB Canada-U.S.-Mexico + 50GB Roam Beyond | $79 / 250GB + 35GB Roam Beyond | $1 more; 15GB more international data |
The balanced interpretation is that Freedom expanded predictable recurring roaming at the low end, funded part of that change with a price increase, and reduced existing international allowances on the $50 and $60 plans. The $80 plan was the clear high-end roaming winner.
Recurring Roam Beyond data, explained
A recurring allowance renews with the monthly plan cycle. A customer who has 1GB or 5GB of recurring Roam Beyond data receives that amount each billing period, rather than receiving a one-time allotment that disappears after it is used.
That distinction matters most to people who make several international trips or spend extended periods outside Canada, the United States and Mexico. A one-time allowance may be sufficient for one trip; recurring data is more useful when international travel is part of a regular routine.
Roam Beyond is separate from the plan’s Canada-U.S.-Mexico data. A large North American allowance does not mean the same amount of high-speed data is available in Europe, Asia or another Roam Beyond destination. Freedom says its Roam Beyond plans and passes cover more than 120 destinations, but the list can change. Customers should check the current destination list and roaming terms before travelling.

Included roaming data is capped. It is not unlimited international data. After the included amount is consumed, pay-per-use data charges can apply, even if a 30-day pass or plan period has not expired. Talk and text treatment can continue under the applicable terms, but customers should not assume every call is covered.
Who benefited?
Frequent international travellers
Customers on the former $34 and $39 plans who travel internationally more than once during a billing cycle gained the most practical value from recurring data. They no longer had to rely on a one-time international allocation each time the plan renewed.
Heavy Roam Beyond users
The February $80 plan increased from 35GB to 50GB of Roam Beyond data. That is the clearest allowance increase in the launch lineup for people whose primary concern is international data.

The recurring bring-your-own-phone credit on eligible $50-and-up plans was reported as increasing from $9 to $10. For a qualifying customer, that can offset the $1 advertised increase—but eligibility and the current credit should be confirmed during signup. A BYOP customer also avoids device financing, TradeUp conditions and handset charges.
Who may have lost value?
Customers who rarely roam
If you almost always stay in Canada, the United States or Mexico, recurring international data may have little value. Such a customer pays the higher advertised price without using the feature that helped justify it.
Customers on the $50 and $60 tiers
The February versions of those plans included 5GB less Roam Beyond data than their predecessors. Customers who regularly used 15GB or 25GB internationally may find the refreshed versions less generous despite the higher price.
People focused on domestic data per dollar
The $40 plan dropped from 70GB to 60GB of Canada-U.S.-Mexico data. If international roaming is irrelevant, that reduction is more important than the new recurring structure.
Frequent plan switchers
The February launch terms applied a three-month minimum-subscription condition to the Total Freedom plans. Freedom’s reported terms allowed a $30 fee when a customer changed to another plan within three months of activating a plan with Roam Beyond data. This should not be described as a blanket three-month cancellation fee or as an absolute prohibition on leaving Freedom. The exact trigger, timing and exceptions depend on the current plan terms.

The discounts and charges that change the real price
Do not compare the headline price alone. A customer’s effective monthly cost can be affected by:
- Digital Discount: Freedom advertises a $5 discount for eligible customers who use Auto Pay and meet the applicable redemption conditions.
- BYOP credit: The February refresh reported a $10 recurring credit on eligible plans, particularly relevant to customers bringing a compatible phone.
- Device financing: MyTab payments, TradeUp obligations and handset eligibility can add to the monthly bill or create return conditions.
- Taxes and other charges: Taxes, regulatory charges, add-ons, roaming passes and pay-per-use fees are separate from the plan’s advertised rate.
Freedom’s Price Freeze Promise applies to the wireless rate-plan price, according to the carrier. It does not freeze taxes, device financing, TradeUp charges, add-ons, passes, pay-per-use charges or every other amount on the bill. Details are outlined in Freedom’s support information.
Roaming risks to check before travelling
- Confirm the destination. A phone can connect to a foreign network even when that destination is not included in the current Roam Beyond list. Connectivity alone does not prove that the usage is covered.
- Check the remaining data. Pay-per-use charges may begin after the included roaming allowance runs out.
- Do not assume every call is included. Calls to destinations other than Canada or the country where you are roaming can cost $3.50 per minute. Satellite-phone calls can cost $10 per minute, according to Freedom’s long-distance rate information.
- Disable roaming when you do not need it. Freedom says customers can manage National, U.S. and International Roaming through My Account.
- Consider a 30-day pass. A pass can suit an occasional traveller whose regular plan lacks enough Roam Beyond data. Passes have their own allowance and terms and do not consume the plan’s domestic data bucket.
The February lineup did not remain fixed
Freedom changed its offers several times after the February launch:
- March 20: Reported offers included $40/100GB, $50/150GB and a promotional $50/250GB plan with 50GB of Roam Beyond data. See the March update.
- April 30: Further reported changes altered the mix of available plans and reduced data on some tiers.
- July 9: Freedom was reported to have reduced data on several $40, $50 and $60 plans. See the July plan-shuffle report.
- July 23: Back-to-school promotions temporarily restored or increased some data allowances and introduced promotional plans. See the back-to-school update.
That history is why the February table should be used to understand the refresh—not to identify the live lineup. Promotional data, credits and prices may expire or change. Confirm the current offer at Freedom’s shopping page before switching.

How to compare Freedom with alternatives
A fair comparison with Public Mobile, Koodo, Rogers, Bell or Telus should look beyond the monthly sticker price. Check:
- Regular price and effective price after Auto Pay or BYOP discounts
- Canada-only versus Canada-U.S.-Mexico data
- International roaming data and included countries
- Whether roaming data recurs monthly or is a one-time allowance
- Overage rates after the included data is used
- Minimum-term conditions and plan-change fees
- Domestic coverage, network access and roaming arrangements
- Device financing, TradeUp and return obligations
- Price guarantees and their exclusions
Official comparison starting points include Public Mobile, Koodo, Rogers, Bell and Telus. Their current prices and promotions should be checked directly rather than inferred from older comparisons.
Who should consider Freedom?
Freedom’s refreshed plan design makes the most sense for a customer who travels internationally often enough to use recurring Roam Beyond data, wants to keep a Canadian number abroad, and can stay within the included allowance. It can also be attractive to an eligible BYOP customer who receives the available credit.
