That came after taxpayers and experts were reported to have raised concerns about errors and difficult workflows on the Federal Board of Revenue’s IRIS portal, and after FBR first said the September 30 deadline would not be extended. The complaints were reported experiences, not a verified count of outages or failed filings.
What taxpayers and experts reported about IRIS
In an August 13, 2025 report, TechJuice said taxpayers and experts were pressing FBR to address reported glitches, submission failures and confusing steps in the income-tax filing process ahead of the deadline. The report also described timeouts and data loss. These accounts indicate the problems some users said they encountered; they do not establish how many taxpayers were affected or how many returns failed to submit. TechJuice’s report did not provide independent portal telemetry.
IRIS is FBR’s online portal for filing income-tax returns, according to the agency’s filing guidance. FBR said the Tax Year 2025 return form had been notified on July 7, 2025, and included a requirement to declare the market value of assets. The agency described the system as operational, but that statement was not an independent technical audit. FBR’s release about the Tax Year 2025 form sets out its position.
What FBR said, and how the deadline changed
The public statements and decisions unfolded in stages. FBR’s operational assurance should be distinguished from the complaints reported by TechJuice, while the later notices superseded the agency’s initial deadline position.

What the deadline history does—and does not—show
The sequence establishes that FBR changed the general filing date after first saying it would not extend it. It does not establish that reported IRIS errors caused the extensions: the notices cited requests from trade bodies, tax bar associations and, in the first extension, the public. Nor do the cited official releases quantify portal availability, failed submissions or affected taxpayers.
FBR’s September 29 statement said: “FBR’s IRIS platform is fully operational, functioning smoothly, and taxpayers can easily file their returns using the new simplified income tax return form.” That is the agency’s assessment, not independent evidence measuring uptime or user success.

What to check for a current filing
The October and November 2025 dates are historical. They should not be used as the filing deadline for another tax year. Check FBR’s current announcements and its IRIS filing guidance for the applicable year, deadline and procedure.
