Farmers Business Network (FBN) acquired Farmsave Holdings Pty Ltd in July 2020, bringing an Australian agricultural-inputs platform into its business. The purchase price and other financial terms were not disclosed. FBN later permanently closed its Australian operations, effective 16 June 2023.

What Farmsave offered Australian farmers

Farmsave gave farmers access to competitive prices on key farm chemicals from multiple suppliers and arranged delivery to local depots and farms, according to FBN officials quoted by Successful Farming. Its online platform emphasized real-time pricing transparency for agricultural inputs.

The 2020 acquisition coverage described Farmsave as serving “over 5,000 Australian farms.” That is the source’s wording and unit; it is not directly comparable with the different figure FBN reported later.

Why FBN said it acquired Farmsave

FBN and Farmsave presented the deal as an extension of a shared focus on giving growers more choice and control. The acquisition article, which said the statements came from an FBN news release, quoted FBN CEO and cofounder Amol Deshpande: “We’re thrilled to be working with Farmsave in one of the world’s key agricultural economies,”

It also quoted Farmsave founder and director of operations Dirk Butter: “Both Farmsave and FBN are built on one core principle, which is to give growers the power they deserve,”

These were the companies’ stated rationales, not evidence that the acquisition reduced input costs or produced particular results for farmers. The purchase price and deal structure were not disclosed in the acquisition coverage.

What happened after the acquisition

FBN’s Australian support page says the company permanently closed its Australian business operations effective 16 June 2023, citing a decision to focus on North American customers. The page reports “over 3,000 Australian growers.” That figure uses a different unit and comes from a different reporting date than the 2020 “over 5,000 Australian farms” figure, so the two do not establish a trend in customer numbers.

The available sources do not establish detailed integration milestones, product launches, or staffing changes between the 2020 announcement and the 2023 closure. What is clear is that the Australian operating business closed; the former service should not be treated as currently available.

How the company’s name changed in Australian records

Company names in official records help explain the corporate history, but they do not mean the service continued operating. The Australian Business Register’s historical record lists the entity as Farmsave Holdings Pty Ltd from 17 March 2017 through 25 December 2021, and as Farmers Business Network Australia Pty Ltd thereafter. FBN’s Terms of Service change log also records the addition of Farmers Business Network Australia Pty Ltd, formerly Farmsave Holdings Pty Ltd, to its affiliates and subsidiaries in July 2020.

A separate entity, Farmsave Pty Ltd, is listed as cancelled from 28 October 2022 in its Australian Business Register record. It is not the same company as Farmsave Holdings Pty Ltd, the entity FBN acquired.
