The Foundation called it a record; the figure was an organizer announcement, not an independently audited total. Team Falcons later won the Club Championship and its announced $7 million grand prize, according to Saudi Press Agency reporting.
What the $70 million figure meant
On April 10, 2025, the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) described the planned pool as “$70+ million,” or more than $70 million. The $70 million shorthand in headlines is rounded: it should not be read as the exact total. EWCF called the pool a record, but the reviewed sources do not independently establish that it was the largest across every esports event.
The 2025 competition was the second Esports World Cup. EWCF said its inaugural 2024 event had a prize pool $10 million lower. That comparison, too, is the organizer’s own account.
How EWCF said the prize money was allocated
The Foundation announced several categories of planned awards. These are organizer-published allocations, not an audited ledger of final payments.

These figures describe categories announced by EWCF; they should not be added together to infer an exact final total. The Foundation’s headline figure remained “more than $70 million,” and the sources reviewed do not reconcile every eventual payment.
What happened at the 2025 event
EWCF said the event would include 25 tournaments across 24 games, with more than 2,000 players and 200 clubs expected. Those were advance figures from the organizer, not independently verified final participation counts.

After the competition, Saudi Press Agency reported that Team Falcons finished first in the Club Championship standings with 5,200 points and received the $7 million grand prize EWCF had announced for the winner. SPA is a Saudi government news agency; its report is not an independent audit of all event payouts.

A headline pool is the total the organizer announced across multiple awards and qualifying competitions. It is not the amount any one player or club necessarily takes home. For this event, the largest specified single Club Championship award was the $7 million grand prize for the winning club; the $27 million figure covered the broader Club Championship allocation. Game-specific prize money, MVP awards and qualifier awards were separate announced categories.

EWCF CEO Ralf Reichert said the pool was aligned with a long-term vision rather than short-term impact. That is the Foundation’s stated rationale, not independent evidence that the event generated lasting industry growth. The announcement also referred to the Club Partner Program and multi-year publisher agreements, but those statements do not establish the event’s longer-term financial effect.
