EA confirmed organizational changes in its Battlefield group on March 9, 2026, and reporting said layoffs affected all four Battlefield Studios teams: DICE, Criterion, Ripple Effect, and Motive. EA did not disclose how many employees were affected or explain which roles were eliminated. Its statement described a goal of aligning teams around community priorities, but did not provide a detailed account of the workforce decision.

What EA confirmed about the layoffs

EA told Game Developer that it had made “select changes” within its Battlefield organization. The company said the changes were intended “to better align our teams around what matters most to our community,” adding that Battlefield remained a major priority and that EA was continuing to invest in the franchise.

That is EA’s public rationale, not a detailed explanation of why particular positions were cut. The reported coverage did not establish the number of employees affected, the share of each studio’s workforce, or whether cuts focused on specific roles, locations, or employment types.

Which Battlefield studios were affected?

Game Developer reported that IGN understood layoffs had touched all four teams in Battlefield Studios. EA’s own overview of the collaboration names the teams and describes their contributions to Battlefield 6:

Studio Contribution EA described
DICE Created the Battlefield franchise and led design and refinement of core multiplayer systems.
Criterion Brought gameplay-systems expertise.
Ripple Effect Brought multiplayer and live-service experience.
Motive Contributed narrative design and single-player campaign development.

Those descriptions are EA’s account of the Battlefield 6 collaboration, not confirmation of each studio’s current assignments or staffing after the layoffs.

What “realignment” does—and does not—explain

EA’s statement connects the changes to aligning teams with what matters to the community, and says the company is continuing to invest in Battlefield. It does not identify a specific business or production cause. The cited statement does not connect the layoffs to sales, player numbers, missed targets, content performance, or an acquisition.

The timing may invite questions because EA had reported a strong launch for Battlefield 6. On October 24, 2025, the company said the game sold more than seven million copies during its first three days. EA also reported over 172 million online matches and over 15 million hours watched on streaming services during the three-day launch weekend. These are EA-published launch figures; they do not establish why staffing changes followed months later.

  • Play Firestorm Battle Royal, re imagined for Battlefield V. Scavenge, fight, and survive to become the last squad standing

EA’s statement does not say that Battlefield 6’s commercial performance caused the layoffs, and the available reporting does not establish such a link. A strong launch figure and a later workforce reduction can both be true without the first explaining the second.

What is known about studio status and future content

On March 9, 2026, GameSpot reported that all four studios would remain open at that time, while noting that the scope of the cuts and their possible effect on future content were unclear. The cited reporting does not establish the studios’ operating status or staffing as of October 8, 2026, nor does it quantify any effect on Battlefield 6’s roadmap, live-service cadence, or future games.

The March 2026 cuts should also be distinguished from an earlier change: on February 28, 2024, EA said its standalone Ridgeline studio in Seattle would be wound down, with some team members joining Ripple Effect. That was a separate historical restructuring, not part of the March 2026 layoff report.
