Who succeeded Bob Iger as Disney CEO?
Disney announced on February 3, 2026, that its board had elected Josh D’Amaro as the company’s next chief executive officer. The change took effect March 18, 2026; the announcement date and the effective date are distinct. Disney’s announcement and its SEC filing document the decision and timing.
D’Amaro joined Disney in 1998 and had chaired Disney Experiences since 2020, after roles including president of Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, according to the filing. Disney reported that the segment he led generated $36 billion in annual revenue in FY2025 and had 185,000 cast members and employees worldwide; those figures describe Disney Experiences, not D’Amaro personally.
Was Andrew Wilson actually in the running?
The available primary documents do not establish that Wilson was on Disney’s candidate list. Disney’s 2026 proxy statement says the board’s succession process included reviewing and interviewing internal and external candidates, but it does not identify Wilson. The proxy is evidence of a search process, not evidence that any particular person was considered. Disney’s proxy statement does not confirm the rumor.

EA’s executive profile identifies Wilson as the company’s chairman and CEO and describes his earlier leadership work across EA SPORTS, Origin, online operations, and EA’s Asia business operations. That establishes his role and background at EA, not a Disney candidacy. EA’s executive listing names him in his current role.
What changed for Iger and Dana Walden?
Under the transition recorded in Disney’s SEC filing, Iger became senior advisor to the company’s board effective March 18, 2026, reporting exclusively to the board. The filing describes his board service through December 31, 2026, subject to the shareholder vote at the 2026 annual meeting; it does not say he simply left Disney on the CEO transition date.

Disney also announced that Dana Walden would become president and chief creative officer, effective March 18, 2026. The succession announcement named both appointments as part of the leadership transition.

How the succession unfolded
- July 12, 2023: Disney said Iger had agreed to remain CEO through December 31, 2026, while the board continued succession planning. Disney’s 2023 announcement.
- January 22, 2026: Disney’s proxy described succession planning as a board priority and said the board expected to announce its choice in early 2026.
- February 2–3, 2026: The SEC filing records the board’s appointments; Disney publicly announced D’Amaro’s election and Walden’s role on February 3.
- March 18, 2026: D’Amaro and Walden’s new roles took effect, alongside Iger’s transition to senior advisor.
- December 31, 2026: The filing describes Iger’s board tenure through this date, subject to the annual-meeting shareholder vote.
