No—Walmart stores in the U.S. do not currently accept Apple Pay at checkout. If you want to pay with an iPhone, use Walmart Pay in the Walmart app instead. Walmart Canada has a different policy and lists Apple Pay as an accepted payment method.
This information reflects Walmart’s stated policy as of August 2026.

Does Walmart accept Apple Pay in U.S. stores?
No. Walmart’s current U.S. support information says its stores do not accept Apple Pay or Google Pay at the register. That means you generally cannot hold an iPhone or Apple Watch near the payment terminal and complete the purchase with Apple Pay.
The same policy applies to standard NFC wallet payments such as Google Pay and Samsung Pay, as well as ordinary contactless tap-to-pay cards, according to Walmart’s current support guidance. This describes Walmart’s payment policy; it does not establish that every individual register lacks NFC hardware.

Apple says Apple Pay is intended for merchants that display the Apple Pay or contactless-payment symbol. At U.S. Walmart checkout, that symbol should not be treated as confirmation that Apple Pay will work. If you are unsure, use Walmart Pay or a physical payment method.

How to pay at Walmart with an iPhone
You can still use your iPhone at a U.S. Walmart store through Walmart Pay. It is Walmart’s own payment feature inside the Walmart app—not Apple Pay under a different name.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteSet up Walmart Pay
- Open or download the Walmart app and sign in to your Walmart account.
- Open Walmart Pay.
- Add an eligible credit card, debit card, or Walmart gift card if you have not already saved one.
- Select the payment method you want to use.
- Complete any requested PIN, Face ID, Touch ID, or other device-security setup.
Use Walmart Pay at checkout
- Scan your items at a staffed register or self-checkout.
- If applicable, complete the EBT, WIC, SNAP, or other benefit-payment portion first.
- Open the Walmart app and tap Walmart Pay.
- Authenticate with your PIN or device biometrics.
- Hold your phone over the QR code displayed on the register.
- Wait for the confirmation sound or on-screen confirmation.
- Find the electronic receipt in the Walmart app.
Walmart Pay uses a QR-code scan rather than NFC tap-to-pay. Walmart says the payment process uses encrypted connections and that payment information is not transmitted to the store through the QR code. Those are Walmart’s stated security practices; they are not a claim that Walmart Pay is safer than Apple Pay.

What payment methods does Walmart accept?
For U.S. Walmart transactions, practical options can include:
- Cash
- Physical debit cards
- Physical credit cards
- Walmart gift cards
- Eligible EBT, WIC, SNAP, HSA, FSA, and other benefit cards, subject to program and item rules
- Walmart Pay
- OnePay Wallet or eligible OnePay cards where supported
Walmart’s broader payment-method information also lists options such as Pay by Bank, Walmart Balance, and PayPal. Availability can vary by transaction type, order method, location, and whether you are shopping in a store or online. PayPal should not be assumed to be a normal in-store register payment.
See Walmart’s current payment-method list for online and order-specific details.

It depends on what you mean by “Apple Card.”
- Apple Card in Apple Wallet: You cannot tap it through Apple Pay at a U.S. Walmart register.
- Physical Apple Card: The physical card is a Mastercard and may be usable as a physical card wherever Walmart accepts that card network, subject to the card and transaction rules.
- Apple Card number entered manually: Do not rely on this as a standard workaround. Keyed transactions depend on the register and cashier authorization.
Apple Card and Apple Pay are different products. A card being stored in Apple Wallet does not automatically make it available in Walmart Pay; you may need to add an eligible card separately to your Walmart account.

Does Walmart accept Apple Pay online?
Walmart’s U.S. payment-method page does not currently list Apple Pay among the payment options for Walmart.com. Do not assume that Apple Pay will be available in the U.S. Walmart app or at every online checkout.
Instead, use the payment choices actually displayed during your Walmart.com or app checkout. Options can vary by country, checkout flow, order type, and app version. Walmart Canada’s acceptance of Apple Pay should not be used to infer that Walmart.com in the United States accepts it.
What about Walmart Canada?
Walmart Canada’s official payment page lists Apple Pay for Walmart.ca and says Canadian stores accept mobile-payment apps such as Apple Pay and Google Wallet. Therefore, the answer is geography-specific:

Walmart Pay is convenient if you already use the Walmart app and are comfortable saving a payment method to your Walmart account. Its disadvantages are that it requires the app, account access, authentication, and a working phone connection. If you do not want those requirements, bring a physical card or cash.
What is OnePay, and does it make Apple Pay work at Walmart?
OnePay is separate from Apple Pay and Walmart Pay.
- OnePay Wallet: A Walmart-related digital-payment option that may be supported for Walmart transactions.
- OnePay debit card: A Mastercard debit card that Walmart says can be used at Mastercard merchants and by swipe, insertion, or tap where supported.
Adding a OnePay debit card to Apple Wallet does not make Apple Pay accepted at a U.S. Walmart register. The transaction would still be processed as Apple Pay, which Walmart’s current U.S. support page says it does not accept.
Walmart lists no monthly maintenance fee or minimum balance requirement for its OnePay debit card, but opening a financial account is unnecessary if you only need a one-time way to pay at Walmart. Review the official OnePay debit-card information before considering it.
What if Walmart Pay does not work?
Try these checks before abandoning the purchase:
- Confirm that you are signed in to the Walmart app.
- Check your internet or cellular-data connection.
- Verify that the selected card has not expired, been locked, or been declined.
- Confirm that the app has the permissions it needs.
- Close and reopen Walmart Pay.
- Ask the cashier to display the register’s QR code again.
- Check whether a gift-card balance or benefit payment has already been applied.
- Use a physical card or cash as a backup.
Walmart Pay depends on access to the app and may use location services for certain in-store features. If the app cannot authenticate, do not assume Apple Pay will work as a fallback at the same register.
Does Walmart Pay cost extra?
Walmart’s terms say Walmart does not charge a fee to use Walmart Pay. Your mobile carrier may still charge for data usage, depending on your plan.
