No. Federal law provides lifetime Secret Service protection for former presidents and their spouses, but covers a former president’s children only while they are under 16. Malia and Sasha Obama are both older than 16. The available sources do not establish whether either daughter has a separate, individualized security arrangement or what it costs.
What federal law says
Under 18 U.S.C. § 3056(a), the Secret Service is authorized to protect former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes, with an exception for a spouse who remarries. The following paragraph covers “Children of a former President who are under 16 years of age.” The statute also allows people covered under paragraphs (2) through (8) to decline protection.
The Office of the Law Revision Counsel’s preliminary U.S. Code text says it contains laws in effect on September 11, 2026. The relevant provisions are § 3056(a)(3) and (4).
How the rule applies to Sasha and Malia
The White House Historical Association’s biography of Barack Obama gives Malia’s birth year as 1998 and Sasha’s as 2001. As of October 8, 2026, both are over the statutory age limit. The law does not grant them lifetime Secret Service protection simply because they are the adult children of a former president.

What is known about taxpayer funding
The legal rule establishes the age-based eligibility limit; it does not establish whether Sasha or Malia currently has a separate protective detail or its cost. The sources available for this article provide no daughter-specific cost figure, so it would be inaccurate to claim that taxpayers currently fund lifetime security for either of them.
The Former Presidents Act separately authorizes specified security and travel expense appropriations for a former president or spouse in certain circumstances, including when Secret Service protection is not being received, has expired, or was declined. That provision concerns former presidents and spouses; it does not create a stated lifetime benefit for their adult children.
