What the $100,000 figure actually means
Kelce reportedly said he could have won $100,000 if Forever Young had finished second. That amount was a possible payout he nearly reached—not a confirmed loss, and not the amount he was reported to have wagered. Us Weekly’s May 8, 2024 account and Mahoning Matters’ May 9 report describe the near-win in those terms.
The distinction matters: a missed potential payout does not tell readers how much Kelce bet or how much, if anything, he lost. The reports cited here do not establish either figure.
How Forever Young finished
Forever Young placed third in the 150th Kentucky Derby on May 4, 2024. Mystik Dan won by a nose, with Sierra Leone second and Forever Young third, according to Churchill Downs Incorporated’s race report and the TwinSpires 2024 results page. Since the second-place finish was the condition Kelce reportedly needed for the potential payout, Forever Young’s third-place result explains why he missed it.

What is known about the necklace
A July 2024 Showbiz Cheat Sheet report included a “limited edition gold and diamond horseshoe necklace” among gifts Kelce reportedly purchased for Swift during their first year of dating. The account does not name a jeweler, identify an exact model, or independently verify the purchase.
It also does not establish that Kelce gave Swift the necklace right after the Derby or because of the near-missed payout. The report supplies no item-specific price for the necklace, so calling it “pricey” does not provide a substantiated dollar value. Its broader jewelry-spending claim should not be treated as the price of this particular item.

What the contemporary event report says about Kelce’s visit
Mahoning Matters reported that Kelce attended the Derby as a guest of Bruce Zoldan. It quoted Kelce saying, “I’m a Derby guy now, man. It was so much fun.” The report also noted that Swift was not pictured at the event. These details document the visit, but do not connect it to the later necklace report.
