Eidos-Montréal Layoffs: 124 Confirmed Job Cuts and the Reports of More to Come

Eidos-Montréal confirmed a 124-person workforce reduction and Anfossi's departure in March 2026. The December 2025 reports of more cuts remain unconfirmed. Here is how to read both, and the financial steps to take if you are affected.

Eidos-Montréal has officially confirmed a workforce reduction affecting 124 employees, along with the departure of longtime Head of Studio David Anfossi. Separately, a December 2025 report from Insider Gaming described at least a dozen recent departures and a forecast of further cuts after current projects wrap. Only the March 2026 figures come from the studio itself. The December claims were attributed to sources and were not confirmed by the company at the time.

What Eidos-Montréal has officially confirmed

On March 30, 2026, the studio published a statement saying 124 employees were affected by a workforce reduction. The company tied the cuts to “changing project needs and impacts across production and support teams.” The same statement said the studio and Anfossi were parting ways and that a transition plan was underway.

The official wording is the only confirmed account of the March event. PC Gamer’s coverage of the same day repeated the studio’s announcement and did not add independent detail on who was affected or why beyond that statement.

What was reported in December 2025

Insider Gaming published its report on December 2, 2025. It relied on former employees’ social media posts and on sources inside the company. PC Gamer followed on December 4, 2025, citing the same reporting. Neither Eidos-Montréal nor its parent Embracer confirmed the details in those articles. Insider Gaming said it had asked both companies for comment and had not received a reply before publication.

The December reporting made four claims. Readers should treat each one differently:

Claim Who made it Status as of October 2026
At least a dozen people had recently left and were looking for work Insider Gaming, based on employee posts Reported only; no studio-confirmed headcount for December
Most of the studio’s projects had been cancelled Attributed by Insider Gaming to multiple sources Not confirmed by the studio in the reporting
The studio was focused on work with Microsoft and Xbox on Grounded 2 and Fable Attributed by Insider Gaming to sources Not confirmed by the studio in the reporting
An internal project begun in 2019 was unlikely to recoup its costs, and further reductions were forecast once current projects finished Attributed by Insider Gaming to sources A forecast, not an event; not confirmed by the studio

The December article also described 75 employees let go in March 2025 as the first known wave of 2025 cuts. That figure is Insider Gaming’s account, not a studio statement.

Why the December forecast and the March 2026 cut should not be treated as the same event

The March 2026 reduction is confirmed. The studio has not said that it was the reduction forecast in December, and no source reviewed establishes that link. Readers should not assume the forecast has played out in full, or that it has not. The official statement does not describe any further planned rounds.

The studio’s stated reason (“changing project needs”) and the December claims about cancelled projects and recouping costs are separate. The first is an official explanation. The second is a source-based account that the company has not confirmed.

Reading the numbers correctly

Figure Source What it measures
124 employees affected Eidos-Montréal official statement, March 30, 2026 Confirmed count for the March 2026 reduction, across production and support teams
75 employees let go Insider Gaming, December 2, 2025, describing March 2025 Reported count for an earlier 2025 wave; not a studio statement in the reporting
At least a dozen people looking for work Insider Gaming, December 2, 2025 A reported minimum from employee posts; not a confirmed December headcount

None of these figures is a percentage of the studio’s workforce. The sources do not give a reliable total headcount for the studio, so no share of staff affected can be calculated from them.

The studio’s March statement included this line: “Today is a difficult day for our studio and reflects the need to adapt and concentrate efforts where Eidos-Montréal can be most effective.” Insider Gaming also quoted gameplay director Samuel Daher’s post about leaving: “Was working at Eidos, loved it and would have stayed, but times are difficult.” That quote is Daher’s, as reported by Insider Gaming.

Leadership change

The studio’s official website lists an announcement appointing Patrice Baig as General Manager, describing him as a long-time member of the leadership team. That page shows no publication date in the text available, so the source does not establish when the appointment happened relative to Anfossi’s departure.

If you work in the games industry or are affected by cuts like these

Layoffs at a single studio are easier to plan around when you know which parts of your situation are fixed and which depend on your paperwork. These steps apply to anyone losing a job suddenly, whether or not the employer is named in a news report.

  1. Get the separation terms in writing. Ask HR for a letter that states your last day, final pay date, unused vacation payout, severance (if any), and benefits end date. Verbal assurances are not enough.
  2. Check notice rules for your province. Quebec’s labour standards framework sets notice requirements for collective dismissals. Ask the provincial labour standards office or a labour lawyer what applies to your case rather than relying on a rule of thumb.
  3. Apply for Employment Insurance promptly. EI is administered federally through Service Canada. Benefits generally depend on the date you apply, so do not wait for your severance to clear.
  4. Keep health and group insurance active. Ask whether coverage continues during any notice period and how to convert or extend it once employment ends. Check before you need care.
  5. Decide how long your emergency fund needs to last. Count fixed costs such as rent or mortgage, utilities, insurance, debt minimums and childcare. Compare that total to your savings plus any severance and EI, and set a review date rather than a vague “later.”
  6. Pause large commitments. Hold off on new loans, large purchases or a move until you know your next income level. Keep existing debt payments current, and call lenders early if a payment is at risk.
  7. Save proof of your work and pay. Keep pay stubs, the termination letter, and records of hours and bonuses. You will need them for an EI claim, a severance dispute, or a future mortgage or lease application.

What to watch next

For this studio, the confirmed facts are the March 2026 reduction affecting 124 employees and Anfossi’s departure. Anything beyond that should come from an official company statement or from reporting that names its sources. Treat unnamed forecasts and employee-post counts as leads to check, not as settled figures.

For your own finances, the more useful question is not how large a studio’s cut was but how long your savings would last at your current costs. Answer that first, then decide what to change.
