What the available U.S. sales rankings show
Cox Automotive and Kelley Blue Book (KBB) report estimated U.S. vehicle sales. Their annual figures and the separately reported first-quarter 2026 figures are distinct snapshots, not interchangeable rankings.

The available evidence does not identify the period behind the headline’s claim. Without the original TechCrunch article or its cited quarter-specific source, assigning a quarter to that comparison would be speculation. The figures above establish only the periods they explicitly cover; they do not rule on a different, unverified period.

How the wider U.S. EV market changed
Cox Automotive reported 1,301,411 U.S. EV sales in 2024, up 7.3% year over year. The 2025 market had a different pattern: KBB put EVs at 7.8% of U.S. new-car sales for the year, with the share at 10.5% in Q3 and 5.8% in Q4. Those are market-wide shares, not model rankings.
KBB said the $7,500 federal EV tax credit ended in September 2025 and that buyers moved purchases into Q3 ahead of the change. Cox Automotive director of Industry Insights Stephanie Valdez Streaty said, “2025 unfolded largely as anticipated, with changes to federal EV incentives reshaping the demand patterns that drove record Q3 sales.” These sources describe the timing and market context; they do not establish the incentive change as the sole cause of every sales movement.
