What happened in the Kelly Benefits breach?
Kelly & Associates Insurance Group, Inc., which operates as Kelly Benefits and provides payroll and/or employee benefits enrollment services, reported an external system breach. The company’s investigation determined that an unauthorized actor accessed its environment from December 12 through December 17, 2024, and copied files. The Maine Attorney General filing records December 12, 2024 as the breach date, March 3, 2025 as the discovery date, and May 30, 2025 as the consumer notification date. Maine Attorney General filing
How many people were affected?
The Maine Attorney General filing lists 488,139 people affected, including 18,820 Maine residents. Cybernews reported 413,032 people. These totals differ, and the reviewed sources do not explain why, so they should not be treated as equivalent or reconciled without further information.
Cybernews also reproduced a company statement: “We will continue to review our already robust security policies, procedures, and tools as part of our ongoing commitment to information security,” wrote the company in a notice. Cybernews report

What information may have been involved?
The settlement FAQ lists names, Social Security numbers, tax ID numbers, dates of birth, medical information, health insurance information, financial account information, and other sensitive identifying information. Which items were involved can vary by person. What should you do if you received a notice?
Use the offered IDX service
The Maine Attorney General filing says affected individuals were offered 12 months of IDX credit monitoring and identity theft protection. Follow the enrollment directions in your personal notice and check any stated enrollment deadline. The reviewed sources do not establish that buying another monitoring service is necessary.

- If you find suspected identity theft or fraud, report it to the relevant financial institution, insurer, or other affected account provider and follow the reporting directions in your notice.
The available breach information does not establish that the copied information has been misused. These checks are practical precautions, not evidence that fraud has occurred.
What are the settlement deadlines?
The settlement website for In re: Kelly Benefits Data Breach Litigation, Case No. 1:25-cv-01304-SAG in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland, lists the following dates. The site warns that the hearing date may change, so verify current dates and instructions on the official settlement website before acting.
