The CSEC Principles of Business May/June 2024 Paper 2 was the General Proficiency structured-essay examination held on 21 May 2024 in the morning. It lasted two hours and required candidates to answer all five questions. The paper is a past sitting, so its topics are useful for reviewing the syllabus—not a forecast of what will appear in another examination.

What is CSEC POB May/June 2024 P2?

“POB” refers to Principles of Business, and “P2” or “Paper 02” refers to the structured essay paper rather than the multiple-choice paper. The reproduced examination identifies the sitting as Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) CSEC Principles of Business, General Proficiency, dated 21 May 2024 (a.m.). The copy available at Scribd is third-party hosted; it should not be mistaken for a CXC-hosted download.

The CXC Principles of Business subject page provides official subject and resource navigation, while its CSEC Principles of Business syllabus sets out the Paper 02 assessment structure. The syllabus is CXC 08/G/SYLL 17, revised in 2016 for first examination in 2019.

How the 2024 paper was structured

The examination paper states: “This paper consists of FIVE questions. Answer ALL questions.” The sitting was two hours long. CXC’s syllabus describes Paper 02 as a 100-mark structured essay assessment: five compulsory questions worth 20 marks each.

The syllabus allocation describes the assessment framework; it does not guarantee that future papers will repeat the 2024 selection of themes or their emphasis.

What topics did the May/June 2024 paper cover?

The five questions use short business situations to test application as well as knowledge. The following map summarizes their subject areas without presenting the paper as a prediction or an answer guide.

1. Management and stakeholder relations

A scenario about Joanna, who wants to run a business, asks candidates to identify management functions and discuss responsibilities to employees, customers and government. It also tests good management–staff relations and effective communication strategies.

2. Contracts

This question covers contract concepts, characteristics of a specialty contract, and ways a contract may be terminated or discharged. The prompts call for examples as well as explanation.

3. Production and productivity

The paper uses Sunshine Beach Resort in a question about a reported increase in staff productivity, alongside production-related knowledge. To work from the precise prompt, consult the paper itself rather than relying on a paraphrase of its wording.

4. Marketing and consumer response

Using a scenario about Pat’s hand sanitizers, the question tests definitions of market and marketing, the traditional marketing mix, branding and sales promotion, and reasons consumers may have responded as they did.

5. Information and communication technology

The final topic area addresses ICT’s influence on banking and finance, improvements ICT can bring to business operations, and privacy issues connected with unethical ICT use.

How to use this past paper for revision

  1. Check the paper’s instructions and timing. The 2024 sitting gives candidates two hours for five compulsory questions; practise working through every question within a timed session.
  2. Revise the syllabus concepts behind each scenario. Use the CXC syllabus to check that your notes cover the relevant content profiles, not just the six broad themes listed above.
  3. Practise applying ideas to the facts given. Joanna, Sunshine Beach Resort and Pat’s product are scenario cues. A strong response should address the particular business situation, rather than stopping at a memorized definition.
  4. Use mark allocations to shape answers. The syllabus assigns 20 marks to each Paper 02 question. In practice, develop enough distinct, relevant points to address the command words and parts of each question.
  5. Verify answers against reliable guidance. The available sources establish the paper’s format and themes, but do not establish an official 2024 answer guide or mark scheme. Do not treat an online worked solution as CXC-approved unless its status is independently verified.

CXC’s syllabus lists “Principles of Business for CSEC with SBA, Study Guide and Exercises” by Robinson and Hamil (Carlong Publishers, 2011), along with another CSEC Principles of Business text, as resources. These are syllabus-related study materials, not verified official solutions to the 2024 paper; current stock and pricing are not established here.
