Costco’s seasonal Maud Borup Giant Chocolate Bunny—named “Pete the Bunny” on its packaging—weighs 10 pounds and is described in Costco’s same-day listing as semi-solid chocolate. Its price has varied sharply by location and date: reports in March 2026 ranged from $34.02 in the Houston area to as much as $140 elsewhere. The package reportedly suggests either breaking it with a mallet, hammer or rolling pin, or cutting it with a warm serrated knife.
What is Costco’s giant chocolate bunny?
Maud Borup makes the 10-pound Giant Chocolate Bunny sold through Costco. “Pete the Bunny” is the name shown on the packaging. Costco’s same-day listing describes it as semi-solid chocolate; at the time of the listing check, it showed the product as out of stock. Costco’s same-day listing is location-sensitive and may change.
The scale is central to the novelty. Racket quoted Maud Borup spokesperson Karen Edwards describing the concept as delivering “a large, head-turning, show-stopping, chocolate bunny this season.” That is the company’s characterization, not an independent product assessment. How much does it cost?
There is no single price established for every Costco location. Reports published in March 2026 show substantially different local prices, and the current online listing can vary with location and availability.

These dated observations do not establish one nationwide price or explain every difference. Location and timing differ between reports, so check the listing for your area rather than relying on an older screenshot or a price quoted elsewhere.
Do you need a hammer to open it?
No. CT Insider reports that the package offers two approaches: wrap the bunny in a towel and strike it with a hammer, mallet or rolling pin, or cut it with a warm serrated bread knife. For the knife method, the reported instructions say to dry the knife before cutting. These are packaging directions reported by CT Insider, not independently tested instructions.

The package reportedly suggests using pieces in hot cocoa, cookies or brownies, shaving chocolate over desserts, or keeping pieces for after-dinner treats. CT Insider reports that the package lists 150 calories per 30-gram serving and 151 servings per container. Racket and Deseret News report 22,650 calories for the whole bunny. These are figures attributed to the packaging or reporting, not independent measurements; the total is consistent with multiplying 150 calories by 151 servings.

Because serving size is only 30 grams, the listed serving count helps put the 10-pound novelty in perspective: it is a large quantity of chocolate, rather than a single oversized dessert serving. For dietary decisions, use the nutrition information on the package you receive.
