What happened to Cash App in the UK?
Cash App announced in July 2024 that it would close its UK service on September 15, 2024, after about six years of operating in Britain. The announcement concerned Cash App UK, not every Cash App or Block product. Contemporaneous coverage of the announcement reported the closure date and scope.

Date correction: September 15, 2024 has passed. It is not a planned September 15, 2026 shutdown.
Why did Cash App leave Britain?
Block said it was focusing on the US and deprioritizing global expansion. Its announcement did not provide a detailed public breakdown of UK revenue, customer numbers, profitability, or regulatory costs. Those factors should not be presented as confirmed reasons for the exit. The reproduced announcement and strategy context describe the company’s stated rationale.

What should former UK account holders do?
The closure is complete, so ordinary account functions may no longer be available. If you still need to resolve a balance or retrieve records, use official channels and avoid anyone offering paid recovery through an unsolicited call, message, or social-media post.
- Try signing in to the existing account and review any balance and transaction history still accessible.
- If funds remain accessible, follow the available in-app instructions to transfer or withdraw them to your linked bank account.
- Save any statements or transaction records you can access, especially if you may need them for tax records, a dispute, refund, or proof of payment.
- If you cannot access the account or believe money remains in it, contact Cash App through its official support site. The current US support routes are not a guarantee that a legacy UK account can be recovered.
Cash App’s current US terms describe support channels for US services. They do not establish a specific recovery process or outcome for former UK accounts. Do not share your password, PIN, one-time passcode, or full card details with someone claiming to be support, and do not pay a supposed release fee.

Is Cash App still available in the United States?
The UK closure was not an announced global shutdown. Cash App continues to publish US terms and US product announcements, indicating ongoing US activity. Availability of a particular feature can still depend on eligibility, location, and applicable rules. See Cash App’s newsroom and US terms.
Can UK residents switch to the US Cash App?
Do not assume that downloading the US app will let you migrate a UK account or use US features as a UK resident. Accounts and products are jurisdiction-specific, and the US terms govern US services. Cash App’s developer documentation says production Cash App Pay is supported only for US accounts; that product-specific statement is not proof that every Cash App service has identical eligibility rules. Do not use a VPN or provide false residence information to get around eligibility checks. A US account is not a straightforward replacement for a UK account, and a US sender may not be able to pay a former UK Cash App account.

Cash App’s legal index and UK privacy notice remain online, and developer documentation includes UK references. Their continued availability does not establish that UK customers can open or use the consumer service normally. What can UK users use instead?
Choose based on the task rather than looking for a one-for-one Cash App clone. Check current eligibility, fees, exchange rates, transfer limits, safeguards, and recipient requirements directly with each provider; these can change.

Before choosing a provider, confirm whether it supports your country of residence, the type of transfer you need, and the safeguards and complaint routes that apply to your account. A current account, a remittance service, and a social payment app can solve different problems.
What is not established about legacy UK accounts?
The available information does not establish a current, dedicated recovery process for every former UK account, how long statements remain accessible, or the outcome for an individual restricted balance or dispute. A retained UK privacy or legal page also does not clarify those operational questions. Contact official support about your specific account, and keep any relevant records you can retrieve.
