Yes. Sony’s current U.S. PlayStation Store payment page lists PayPal as an accepted payment method. You can add it under Payment Management and choose it at checkout when it is eligible for your account and purchase. Sony’s current page confirms availability, but does not establish when PayPal was first added in the U.S.
Where PayPal works—and what Sony’s listing confirms
Sony lists PayPal among the payment methods accepted on the U.S. PlayStation Store, alongside Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Venmo, Apple Pay and Cash App Pay. This is evidence about PlayStation Store purchases and wallet funding, not a blanket guarantee that PayPal checkout works the same way in every PlayStation interface or on every console generation. Sony’s current documentation also does not date PayPal’s first availability in the U.S., so the “finally” framing should not be read as a verified launch announcement.

How to add PayPal and use it at checkout
- Sign in to your PlayStation account and open Payment Management.
- Add PayPal as an eligible payment method. Sony’s guidance is to make the eligible method the default and select it during checkout.
- When buying from the PlayStation Store, choose PayPal at checkout if it is offered for that transaction.
Payment methods are associated with the account, while the checkout screen is where you select an eligible option for a purchase. Menu labels and availability can change; use Sony’s current payment-method guide if the path differs.

PayPal checkout versus adding money to your wallet
Paying at checkout and adding funds to your PlayStation Store wallet are related but distinct. If you add wallet funds, the wallet balance is used first for a purchase; another payment method may cover any remaining amount. Sony also allows wallet funding with a PlayStation Store gift card. Its wallet-funding instructions are in PlayStation Support’s guide to adding funds.
To add funds online, sign in to PlayStation Store, open the profile menu, choose Payment Management > Add Funds, select a payment method and amount, then confirm. On PS5, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Add Funds. On PS4, go to Settings > Account Management > Account Information > Wallet > Add Funds.

Sony’s U.S. terms say funds added to the PlayStation Store wallet are non-refundable and non-transferable except where the law requires. That statement concerns wallet funds under Sony’s terms; it is not a description of PayPal’s own refund rules. Read the PlayStation Terms of Service (US) for the applicable terms.

What changes on PS3 and PS Vita
Direct card or PayPal payments and wallet funding through the PS3 and PS Vita Store interfaces have been unavailable since October 27, 2021. This is a restriction on those legacy interfaces, not a general ban on PayPal for PlayStation Store purchases. Sony says users can add wallet funds through a browser, mobile device, PS4 or PS5, then use those funds for eligible purchases on PS3 or PS Vita. Details appear in Sony’s important PlayStation notices.

Why PayPal might not appear or work
- Store region: Payment options vary by country or region. Sony warns that card details tied to a country different from the account’s Store region may not link. See Sony’s card troubleshooting guidance.
- Account or transaction eligibility: Being on Sony’s U.S. list does not guarantee that every PayPal account or every transaction will work. The cited guidance does not promise universal acceptance.
- Device: On PS3 or PS Vita, use another supported route to fund the wallet rather than trying to pay directly through the legacy Store interface.
If PayPal is not available at checkout, check the payment options shown for your account and Store region, and consult Sony’s current support pages. A gift card is another documented way to add wallet funds; it is an alternative, not a requirement for using PayPal.
