Yes—you can shop for and start buying a car through Amazon Autos, but Amazon is not the car’s seller. The listings and online purchase workflow connect you with participating dealerships, which supply the vehicle and handle pickup and any remaining in-person steps. The service is available only in select U.S. markets, and local inventory varies.

What Amazon Autos is—and who sells the car

Amazon Autos is a digital storefront and transaction workflow for vehicles offered by participating dealerships. You can browse listings and complete much of the purchase process online, but the dealer—not Amazon—supplies the vehicle and is involved in the transaction. Amazon says listed vehicles have an upfront dealer-set price with costs itemized, and that it does not charge customers transaction fees or commissions. That does not mean every purchase is free of other costs: taxes, registration, lender charges, dealer or contract-specific fees, and optional products may affect the final amount. Check the listing and final contract.

How buying a car through Amazon Autos works

  1. Check local listings. Enter a ZIP code to see vehicles listed within 75 miles, then filter by make, model, price, features, and other criteria. Inventory and participating dealers vary by location.
  2. Compare vehicles and sellers. Review the vehicle’s year, condition, mileage, certification, listed price, and the participating dealership. For used or certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles, read the vehicle-history information and the specific protection terms.
  3. Choose how to pay. Depending on the listing and your options, Amazon says you may choose financing, leasing, or paying in full. You can enter trade-in information for an estimate and select optional protection products.
  4. Review financing offers, if applicable. Amazon says personalized approved offers can be compared by annual percentage rate (APR), loan term, monthly payment, and total interest. Compare offers on the same down payment and term where possible, and consider total interest and total amount paid—not just the monthly payment.
  5. Place a deposit and complete online steps. After selecting a vehicle, you can place a deposit and complete much of the paperwork online. Read the terms presented before proceeding; the deposit, final contract, and any lender conditions govern your transaction.
  6. Arrange pickup with the dealer. Amazon says pickup is typically scheduled within three days. The dealer handles pickup, and any paperwork requiring a physical signature is completed there. A test drive may be available through the dealership; confirm with the dealer.

Where Amazon Autos is available and what you can find

Amazon’s current Autos explainer reports more than 1,000 participating dealers in more than 130 U.S. cities. Those are Amazon’s figures, not independently audited counts. Amazon says its service operates in select U.S. markets and that inventory varies; the ZIP-code search is the practical way to check whether a particular car or dealer is available near you.

Amazon’s explainer lists new vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, Subaru, Mazda, Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram; CPO listings from Hyundai and Ford Blue Advantage; and used inventory that includes Hertz and vehicles from hundreds of dealers. These are examples in Amazon’s published account, not a guarantee that a particular make, model, or certification is currently listed in your area.

Amazon and Hyundai announced a strategic partnership in November 2023, initially describing Hyundai as the first brand for dealer vehicle sales expected to begin in 2024. Amazon’s later explainer says Amazon Autos launched in December 2024 with new Hyundai vehicles. The broader partnership also covered Hyundai’s cloud plans and Alexa Built-in in future Hyundai vehicles; those are separate initiatives from shopping for a car through Amazon Autos.

What to check before choosing a vehicle or financing offer

  • Vehicle and dealer: Confirm the make, model, year, condition, mileage, certification, and identity of the dealership supplying the car.
  • Full purchase cost: Look beyond the listed vehicle price. Review taxes, registration, fees, optional products, trade-in treatment, and any charges in the final contract.
  • Financing terms: Compare APR, term, monthly payment, total interest, and total amount paid. Keep down payments and loan terms comparable when weighing offers.
  • Timing and access: Confirm the pickup date and location with the dealer, and ask whether a test drive is available before you commit.
  • Used-car protections: Check the listing’s return terms, written warranty, vehicle-history report, and any state or certification-specific qualifications.

Used and CPO returns and warranties are not all identical

Amazon’s current explainer describes a minimum three-day/300-mile return policy and a minimum 30-day/1,000-mile limited warranty for used and CPO vehicles, while noting that the return policy may vary in certain states. These general terms should not be treated as a substitute for the listing and written documents for a particular vehicle.

For example, Amazon’s announcement about Ford Blue Advantage said Blue Certified vehicles may include a 90-day/4,000-mile limited warranty, whichever comes first. That is a named certification’s stated protection, not a universal warranty for every used or CPO listing. Check the vehicle’s exact certification, warranty duration and mileage limit, and applicable return terms before purchase.

How Amazon Autos has expanded

The service began with new Hyundai listings and now, according to Amazon’s current explainer, includes new, used, and CPO inventory from multiple makes and dealers. That expansion does not make Amazon the vehicle seller: participating dealerships remain part of the buying and pickup process, and what you can actually buy depends on local listings.
