It eliminated outstanding entry-fee obligations and refunded fees already collected, increased team revenue from in-game merchandise, raised subsidies for team-hosted events, and introduced a two-year minimum revenue guarantee. The announcement did not disclose the guarantee amount, merchandise revenue percentages, or event-subsidy formula, and the available sources do not establish whether those terms continued beyond their stated period.
What changed in the 2024 agreement?
After approximately five seasons, the CDL announced four measures intended to improve the league’s economic structure and give teams more opportunity to generate revenue. GamesBeat reported the announcement and quoted then-general manager Daniel Tsay; ONE Esports also summarized the changes.
Entry fees were eliminated and refunded
The league eliminated outstanding entry-fee obligations and said amounts previously collected would be returned in full. GamesBeat reported that collection had already been paused for years before the obligation was permanently removed. This was relief from a team liability, not a disclosed recurring revenue stream.
Teams were to receive more merchandise revenue
The revised terms increased team revenue tied to in-game merchandise, including team bundles and the Champs bundle. Tsay said the league wanted teams to have greater ability to drive their own financial success through bundles. The announcement coverage did not state the revenue-share percentage or estimate what a typical team might earn.
#1 Best Overall
- Comfort is King: Comfort’s in the Cloud III’s DNA. Built for gamers who can’t have an uncomfortable headset ruin the flow of their full-combo, disrupt their speedrun, or knocking them out of the zone.
- Audio Tuned for Your Entertainment: Angled 53mm drivers have been tuned by HyperX audio engineers to provide the optimal listening experience that accents the dynamic sounds of gaming.
- Upgraded Microphone for Clarity and Accuracy: Captures high-quality audio for clear voice chat and calls. The mic is noise-cancelling and features a built-in mesh filter to omit disruptive sounds and LED mic mute indicator lets you know when you’re muted.
- Durability, for the Toughest of Battles: The headset is flexible and features an aluminum frame so it’s resilient against travel, accidents, mishaps, and your ‘level-headed’ reactions to losses and defeat screens.
Support for team-hosted events increased
Subsidies for in-person events hosted by teams—including Majors, Opens, and Champs—were set to increase. Public reporting did not give the subsidy amount or explain how it would be calculated, so the value to any particular team cannot be determined from the announcement.
A two-year minimum revenue guarantee was added
The agreement included a minimum revenue guarantee for two years. The reported announcement did not publish its dollar amount, calculation, or conditions. As a result, it establishes that a guarantee was announced, but not how much a team was assured or what revenue sources counted toward it.

What OverActive Media disclosed about its own agreement
OverActive Media, owner of Toronto Ultra, separately described the financial effects of its agreement with the league. The company reported that approximately C$35.1 million (US$25.5 million) in outstanding entry fees was eliminated and that it received a one-time C$2.8 million (US$2.0 million) restructuring payment. These are OverActive-specific disclosures, not evidence that every CDL team received the same cash payment or had identical contract terms. OverActive also described enhanced digital in-game merchandise revenue streams and opportunities for licensed third-party tournaments.
What the announcement says about financial sustainability
Tsay described the aim as aligning league and team incentives and creating a more stable economic structure for the long-term benefit of owners, players, and fans. The measures address distinct pressures: entry-fee relief reduces liabilities, merchandise revenue and event subsidies offer potential sources of income or support, and a minimum guarantee sets a floor for a limited period.

Those measures do not by themselves demonstrate that teams became profitable. The public coverage does not provide team-level revenue, operating costs, audited results, or evidence measuring the package’s effects. The guarantee’s undisclosed amount and conditions also prevent an assessment of how much financial risk it reduced.

The official CDL schedule lists a 2026 season and 12 teams, showing that the league remained active as of October 8, 2026. That schedule does not establish that the 2024 financial package remained unchanged. The available public materials do not confirm whether the guarantee, event subsidies, merchandise shares, or other terms were renewed, revised, or ended for the 2025–2026 seasons.
