BigIron Auctions announced in 2022 that it would acquire Sullivan Auctioneers. The agreement was finalized July 19, and BigIron announced it on August 1. The companies said they would operate together as a BigIron Company. That was a separate transaction from RB Global’s 2026 acquisition of BigIron, which RB Global completed on May 18, 2026.
What happened between BigIron Auctions and Sullivan Auctioneers?
BigIron’s August 1, 2022 announcement said it had finalized an agreement to acquire Sullivan Auctioneers on July 19. The announcement described a combination of auction businesses, not a sale of Sullivan to RB Global. BigIron said the combined operation would bring together more than 300 employees and nearly 80 years of combined expertise; the latter was the company’s characterization, not an independently audited measure. BigIron’s 2022 announcement did not disclose the purchase price or other financial terms.
How did the companies plan to operate together?
The 2022 release said the companies would continue as a BigIron Company, with locations in Omaha, Columbus and St. Edward, Nebraska; Hamilton, Illinois; Huntington, Indiana; and Bird Island, Minnesota. It said Ron and Mark Stock would continue to head Nebraska locations, while Dan, Joe, Matt, Luke and Michael Sullivan would lead locations in Hamilton, Huntington and Bird Island. These were plans reported in 2022, not confirmation of current locations or staffing.
The companies described complementary auction capabilities: BigIron emphasized online auctions for agricultural, construction and transportation equipment, while Sullivan offered full-service real estate and farm machinery auctions. BigIron CEO Mark Stock said the companies shared “transparency, trust and hard work.” Dan Sullivan said the combination was intended to improve the auction experience for bidders, buyers and sellers. Those statements describe the companies’ rationale and goals, not measured post-acquisition results.

Who owns BigIron Auctions now?
BigIron’s later ownership changed in a separate transaction. On March 4, 2026, RB Global announced a definitive agreement to acquire BigIron, then said the deal was expected to close in the second half of 2026. RB Global subsequently announced that it completed the acquisition on May 18, 2026. RB Global’s agreement announcement and completion announcement establish the later transaction’s status.
RB Global said BigIron customers would gain access to its onsite, offsite and digital marketplace capabilities while retaining the relationships and experience they valued. That is RB Global’s stated expectation; the announcement does not independently establish how service or customer outcomes changed after closing. RB Global CEO Jim Kessler described BigIron’s U.S. agriculture expertise and relationships as complementary to RB Global’s broader marketplace.

What do the 2026 financial figures mean?
In its March 2026 announcement, RB Global reported roughly $885 million in BigIron gross transaction value for the 12 months ending September 30, 2025. The company divided that figure into about $520 million from commercial assets and vehicles and $365 million from agricultural land and real estate transactions. These are issuer-reported gross transaction value figures: they are not revenue, profit or the price RB Global paid to acquire BigIron. They also do not reveal the consideration paid for the 2022 Sullivan acquisition.
