Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThe best Christmas gift for a gamer is one that fits the system they play on and adds something they will actually use. Before buying, find out whether they play on PC, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, mobile, or VR—and what hardware they already own. A controller, game, or headset that suits one setup may not work with another.
Use the ideas below to match a gift to the player’s setup, interests, and budget. The picks reflect holiday guides published in 2025; their prices and availability are historical, so check current listings before you buy.
Start with the platform and what they already own
If you can, ask which platform they use and whether they know the exact console or headset model. Generation matters: a Switch 2 accessory may not fit an earlier Switch, and a PS5 gift is not automatically suitable for a PlayStation 4 owner. For a discreet check, look at the console or headset they use, or ask someone who knows their setup.
Then consider what the gift would add. An extra controller can make local multiplayer easier; remote-play hardware can free up the main TV; a headset can improve private listening; storage can help when a console is running short on space. The right choice depends on the recipient’s setup, not just the product’s popularity.

- Confirm compatibility: Check platform, console generation, connection type, and any required app or device.
- Check what they own: Avoid duplicating a controller, headset, charging accessory, or game they already have.
- Match a use: Think about multiplayer, travel, competitive play, audio, storage, accessibility, or a favorite series.
- Set a budget: A useful add-on or store gift card may be a better fit than expensive hardware.
Gift ideas by platform
PlayStation: local play, remote play, or competitive control
Sony’s official US 2025 Holiday Gift Guide distinguishes PS5 disc and digital models and groups accessories by price bands. It recommends an extra controller for local multiplayer, the PlayStation Portal for playing while someone else uses the main TV, and the DualSense Edge for competitive play. These address different needs: an extra DualSense controller is for playing on the PS5, while the Portal is remote-play hardware. Confirm the recipient owns a PS5 and that the intended use suits their setup.
Tom’s Guide’s 2025 roundup notes that the standard DualSense includes haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and a built-in microphone. It may be a natural choice if the player needs another controller or enjoys those features, but check whether they already have one.

Before choosing any of these, confirm whether the recipient has Switch 2 or an earlier Switch; console-specific games and accessories are not interchangeable by default.
Xbox: storage, audio, mobile control, or racing
Xbox Wire’s December 1, 2025 gift guide lists the Backbone Pro – Xbox Edition mobile controller, Thrustmaster T598X racing wheel, Logitech G Astro A20 X and SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds audio products, and Seagate’s 4TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S. These are quite different gifts: a mobile controller suits someone who plays on a compatible phone or device, a wheel is for racing games, audio gear serves listening and chat, and expansion storage addresses console capacity.

PC: peripherals and game-related gifts
PC Gamer’s November 21, 2025 guide covers PC peripherals and enthusiast gifts, including the Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 keyboard and the Red Dead Redemption 2 soundtrack. A keyboard is a practical option only if its layout and connection suit the recipient’s setup; a soundtrack or other franchise item is safer when you know the game is a favorite. Tom’s Guide’s roundup also includes PC gaming hardware.

It may be relevant for a player who uses or wants that kind of control setup; ask about their preferences and existing equipment rather than assuming what they need.

Mobile and other gaming gifts
Mobile players may appreciate a controller designed for their phone, but compatibility can depend on the device and connection method. Xbox Wire’s Backbone Pro – Xbox Edition is one example from its 2025 guide; check supported phones and the player’s preferred way to play.
The 2025 guides also include games, music and media, keyboards, soundbars, headsets, gaming PCs, and handheld devices. For a known fan, franchise merchandise can be personal without requiring a hardware match. A gift card can leave the choice to the recipient, but make sure it is for a storefront they use and is valid in their region.

Rather than treating a holiday roundup as a shopping list, decide what the gift should do. Use the table to narrow the category, then check current prices and compatibility with the specific item you are considering.
| Gift goal | Examples from 2025 guides | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Enable local multiplayer | Extra PS5 controller | That the recipient owns a PS5 and would use another controller. |
| Play while the main TV is occupied | PlayStation Portal | That the recipient owns a PS5 and wants remote-play hardware. |
| Support competitive play | DualSense Edge | That they play on PS5 and prefer a more competition-focused controller. |
| Make a Switch 2 setup more portable | Belkin Charging Case for Nintendo Switch 2 | That the recipient owns Switch 2 and wants a charging case. |
| Add console storage | Seagate 4TB Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S | That the console is a supported Series X|S model and the listed product is compatible. |
| Improve audio | Logitech G Astro A20 X or SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds | Supported platform, connection method, comfort, and whether the player wants a headset or earbuds. |
| Give a fan something personal | Game, soundtrack, or franchise merchandise | The recipient’s preferred platform for a game, or a series they genuinely like. |
| Let them choose | Platform-specific game-store gift card | The correct storefront and region. |
For lower-cost or uncertain purchases, a platform-matched gift card or a known franchise item can reduce the risk of buying incompatible hardware. For a more substantial gift, prioritize a specific unmet need—such as storage, audio, or local multiplayer—over a higher price alone.
