Big Time Studios announced a $150 million Open Loot Fund in December 2024 to support game studios building on or launching through its Open Loot platform. The amount was the fund’s announced size—not evidence that $150 million had been invested. In a December 17, 2024 report, GamesBeat said founder Ari Meilich told it that the fund had not deployed any capital at that time.

What is the Open Loot Fund?

The fund was presented as a way to back studios developing games for Open Loot, Big Time Studios’ platform for distributing games and digital assets. GamesBeat reported that the announced support could include financial backing, development help, marketing expertise, and strategic advice on areas such as in-game economies, sales, marketplace optimization, and community building. Those were announced offerings; the report does not establish that any particular studio received funding or services.

The announcement does not state investment instruments, check sizes, ownership terms, exclusivity rules, or application acceptance rates. The $150 million figure should therefore be read as the announced fund size, not a commitment to any one applicant or proof of completed investments. GamesBeat’s December 17, 2024 report was updated June 18, 2025.

How much had the fund invested?

As of GamesBeat’s December 17, 2024 report, Meilich said the $150 million fund had deployed no capital. He separately described $10 million in collective prior investments in games on Open Loot, explicitly saying that money was not part of the $150 million fund: “We did invest previously in all Open Loot games you see on Open Loot: A total of $10 million collectively but that is not part of the $150 million fund.” The report does not establish how much, if any, the fund has deployed since then.

Who can apply, and what does the application ask?

The Open Loot funding page, reviewed October 8, 2026, displays an application and lists three requirements:

  • A fun, exciting game.
  • Three to six months from launch.
  • Readiness to integrate the Open Loot marketplace.

The page has no visible publication or revision date. It also asks applicants about their game and genre, funding status and fundraising plans, time to launch, community beta, NFT sales or management tools, other chain or marketplace agreements, burn rate, runway, and token status. These are the requirements and questions displayed on the page, not confirmation that the fund is currently accepting applications or that these terms remain in force. The page’s live form and terms should be checked before relying on them.

Is the fund still accepting applications?

The available evidence does not confirm whether the $150 million fund remains open, how much capital remains, or whether its eligibility rules have changed. Open Loot’s news index, reviewed October 8, 2026, lists 2025 coverage of a strategic shift toward in-house development and select partnerships, as well as a separate $2.9 million credit program. That index does not say whether the $150 million fund was closed, continued, or changed. Its current status is unresolved.

The earlier OPEN LOOT Ecosystem Fund should not be confused with this announcement. On July 27, 2022, Big Time Studios announced that earlier initiative alongside the Open Loot platform; the cited release did not announce a $150 million amount. The two announcements are separate. The July 2022 announcement described an effort to help developers launch Web3 games.

What platform context did the announcement give?

GamesBeat described Open Loot as a distribution platform with an SDK for minting and distributing crypto assets and a marketplace for digital and traditional items. Its report gave platform figures for 2024: $443.3 million in total marketplace volume, 1.4 million unique platform users, and 1.98 million digital collectibles sold. It also reported 1.5 million registered players. These are figures reported by GamesBeat as platform or company figures, not independently audited measures; registered players and unique users are distinct metrics.

Big Time Studios’ $BIGTIME white paper describes Big Time as a multiplayer action RPG that uses blockchain assets. It says $BIGTIME is a utility token for specified game functions, including crafting, upgrading, accelerating timers, and accessing Prestige Portals. The paper says the token provides no ownership, governance, or dividend rights. That game and token context does not establish the fund’s performance or give token holders rights in the fund.
