That breadth creates useful on-chain options for AVAX holders, but it also adds smart-contract, liquidity, market and operational risks. BENQI may suit users who understand those trade-offs; it is not a savings account or a source of guaranteed yield.
What is BENQI?
BENQI is an Avalanche-centered platform made up of separate products that connect staking, lending and validator infrastructure. Its user-facing applications interact with smart contracts; using a non-custodial protocol does not eliminate risks from contract code, governance, oracles, validators or market conditions. BENQI’s terms of service describe risks including contract failure, liquidity problems, delayed withdrawals, exchange-rate deviations, multisig compromise and third-party failures.

How BENQI Liquid Staking turns AVAX into sAVAX
BENQI’s documentation describes a flow that begins on Avalanche’s C-Chain: a user stakes AVAX and receives sAVAX, while the underlying AVAX is delegated for staking on the P-Chain. The liquid-staking pool accumulates staking rewards, changing the accounting relationship between sAVAX and AVAX. BENQI gives the conceptual formula as sAVAX price = total AVAX staked / total sAVAX minted × AVAX price. This is an accounting relationship, not a promise that sAVAX will always trade at that implied value on an exchange.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Because sAVAX is a separate token, its market price can diverge from the underlying AVAX value. Liquidity, demand to exit, market stress or a protocol event can widen that gap. Holding sAVAX also introduces contract and protocol exposure that holding AVAX alone does not. See BENQI’s liquid-staking overview and architecture description for the product’s mechanics.

How to stake AVAX for sAVAX
- Open the official BENQI staking application and check the domain carefully before connecting a wallet.
- Connect an Avalanche-compatible wallet and confirm it is using the expected network. Keep AVAX available for transaction gas.
- Enter the AVAX amount and review the transaction details, including the amount and destination contract shown by the wallet.
- Approve and confirm the transaction. After it completes, verify the sAVAX balance in the wallet or application.
- Check current application terms, supported wallet behavior, rates and fees before committing funds; displayed yields and market conditions can change.
BENQI’s documentation says its described liquid-staking flow does not charge fees for staking, depositing or withdrawing, but that does not make use cost-free: network gas still applies, and a secondary-market sale can incur trading fees, price impact and slippage. See the official getting-started guide for the documented process.
Unstaking: protocol redemption versus selling sAVAX
BENQI documentation specifies a 15-day cooldown after an unstake request, followed by a two-day redemption window in which the user can claim AVAX. sAVAX continues accruing rewards during the cooldown, according to the documentation. Requesting an unstake is therefore not the same as receiving immediately usable AVAX; check the live application for the current interface and claim timing.
A user who needs liquidity sooner may sell sAVAX through an AMM or another market if a route and liquidity are available. That market exit is not protocol redemption: the sale price can be below the redemption-implied value, and fees, slippage and price impact can reduce proceeds. Liquidity providers in pools may also experience impermanent loss. Neither route guarantees a favorable outcome during market stress.

How BENQI Markets lending and borrowing work
BENQI Markets lets users supply supported assets to earn variable interest or borrow assets against collateral. Borrowing is over-collateralized: if collateral value falls far enough, a position can become eligible for liquidation. Supply and borrow rates depend on market conditions and utilization rather than being fixed guarantees.
BENQI documentation groups markets into Core Markets for more liquid assets, such as AVAX and USDC, and Avalanche Ecosystem Markets for a wider range of assets, including longer-tail tokens and tokenized real-world assets. Ecosystem markets use isolated or specialized risk structures; isolation can limit spillover between markets, but it does not remove the risks of the specific asset, oracle, liquidity or contract.

Supported assets, collateral factors, liquidation thresholds, caps, oracle arrangements and market isolation can change. Check the live market interface and current official documentation before supplying or borrowing rather than relying on a parameter quoted in an older article. A stale oracle, thin liquidity or sharp price movement can complicate withdrawals, borrowing or liquidation even when a market appears active.
Using sAVAX as collateral
A user might stake AVAX for sAVAX, supply sAVAX as collateral, then borrow AVAX or a stablecoin. The borrowed asset can be held, spent or reinvested, but the strategy is leveraged exposure rather than free yield. A fall in sAVAX relative to the debt asset, rising borrow rates, lower staking yield or reduced exit liquidity can make the position less attractive or trigger liquidation.

- Account for variable borrowing costs and the possibility that staking rewards decline.
- Consider whether a market discount on sAVAX would make it more costly to repay or exit.
- Keep AVAX aside for gas and potential position adjustments.
- Avoid recursive borrowing unless you can manage liquidation risk and understand the added exposure to Avalanche DeFi.
DeFiLlama’s sAVAX lending-exposure page reports exposure across Avalanche markets, but its figures are not a complete protocol-risk rating and do not fully assess matters such as multisigs, timelocks, audits, oracle incidents, listing decisions or backstops.
Ignite and the validator-growth idea
Ignite is infrastructure intended to make Avalanche validator and Subnet deployment less technically complex and less capital-intensive. BENQI documentation highlights two paths:
Pay-As-You-Go
This option is described as allowing a validator to run without supplying the full upfront AVAX requirement, in exchange for a weekly fee. A shorter-duration or specialized use case such as MEV infrastructure may find that structure relevant. Actual fees and eligibility should be checked in current official materials.

Stake
The stake path is described as staking QI and covering hosting fees to run an automated validator, with QI rewards under the applicable program. Rewards, requirements and economics may change; staking QI is not evidence of a guaranteed return.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →The strategic thesis is that BENQI’s liquid-staking pool creates demand for validators while Ignite aims to lower barriers to validator operation. Those products could reinforce one another, but product design alone does not demonstrate that Ignite has increased validator participation or improved network decentralization. That conclusion would require current validator counts and stake-distribution data.
Node Voting and delegation allocation
BENQI documentation describes a 35/65 delegation split for its liquid-staking pool: 35% is allocated through the BENQI Miles Pool based on community voting, and 65% is an Open Pool randomly allocated among validators that meet applicable criteria. BENQI Miles are associated with this allocation mechanism; users should consult current official documentation for their status, transferability, voting rules, eligibility and allocation schedule.
The split shows how delegation is allocated under the documented design, not that selection is fully decentralized or that stake is evenly distributed. Validator eligibility, voting concentration and any administrative controls matter to that assessment, as do changes to rules over time.
What QI does—and what it does not establish
QI is connected to BENQI’s governance and Ignite-related programs, and BENQI Miles and validator voting form part of the ecosystem’s delegation design. The details of current voting rights, rewards, emissions and any token-holder benefits should be checked against live official governance and program documentation. The available market data does not establish that QI holders own all BENQI revenue, receive liquid-staking income automatically, or must hold QI to use the core staking and lending products.

DeFiLlama’s methodology attributes a holder-revenue component to lending interest for BENQI Markets, while its liquid-staking page models a 10% share of staking yields as fees and shows no revenue share to QI holders for that component. These are provider classifications, not proof of every current governance arrangement or distribution. Consult the linked BENQI Markets page and BENQI Staked AVAX page alongside official token and governance terms before treating QI as a claim on cash flows.
Metrics: use live dashboards, not stale figures
DeFiLlama’s captured snapshot showed about $256.57 million in combined BENQI TVL and $47.36 million in active loans. Its separate BENQI Staked AVAX page showed about $143.61 million in liquid-staking TVL, roughly $700,209 in trailing 30-day fees, and about $70,020 in protocol revenue. These are time-sensitive dashboard snapshots, not current guarantees or fixed characteristics; earlier snapshots showed materially different totals, and denomination settings and update timing can affect comparisons. Treat TVL as a measure defined by the data provider, not a safety or solvency measure.
Before making a transaction, check the live dashboards for TVL, loans, sAVAX supply and market liquidity, and use the BENQI interface for current exchange rates, staking yield, supply and borrow rates, utilization, collateral parameters and caps. DeFiLlama’s comparison of Avalanche liquid-staking protocols can help identify alternatives, but rankings and balances change.

DeFiLlama marks BENQI Staked AVAX as audited, but an audit is not a guarantee against future bugs, governance mistakes, compromised keys or economic attacks. Its page records a $64,000 incident dated April 19, 2026, classified as an access-control issue involving an arbitrary external call on Avalanche. That is a third-party record; it should not be treated as a complete incident history or as confirmation of user impact, response or remediation without official incident reporting.

BENQI compared with the alternatives
| Option | Potential advantage | Trade-off to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Native Avalanche staking | Direct AVAX staking exposure without holding sAVAX | Less DeFi composability; native staking rules and withdrawal requirements apply |
| Another Avalanche liquid-staking token | May differ in liquidity, fee structure, validator model or integrations | Compare redemption mechanics, audits, market depth and governance; rankings shift over time |
| Another Avalanche lending market | May offer different liquidity, risk controls or governance | Compare supported assets, isolation policies, oracle design and market parameters |
| Centralized staking service | May offer a simpler interface | Adds custody, counterparty, account, withdrawal and jurisdiction risks |
BENQI’s strongest case is for users who want Avalanche-native composability between sAVAX, lending markets and validator infrastructure. A different option may be preferable if you prioritize direct native staking, a particular market’s liquidity or risk controls, or a custodial service. No category removes the need to assess its own risks.
Who should consider BENQI?
- Potential fit: AVAX holders who understand self-custody, can tolerate delayed redemption, want sAVAX utility in DeFi, and can monitor lending positions.
- Potential fit: Technically capable operators evaluating validator deployment who can model recurring fees, hosting, uptime and reward variability.
- Poor fit: Anyone who needs guaranteed immediate access to AVAX, principal protection, fixed borrowing rates, or a bank-like service.
- Poor fit: Users unable to manage wallet security or monitor collateral and liquidation risk, and users whose location or circumstances are not permitted under current terms.
Common problems and what to check
A transaction fails
Check gas balance, wallet network, asset and market support, transaction status and any official maintenance notice. Preserve the transaction hash and error message. Do not repeatedly submit or trust a stranger who asks for recovery credentials.
sAVAX is below its expected value
Compare the market quote with the protocol’s redemption accounting, then inspect available liquidity, fees and slippage. A discount is not automatically an arbitrage opportunity: it may reflect real exit demand or heightened risk.
A borrow position is nearing liquidation
Repay debt or add collateral before reaching the threshold, while accounting for transaction congestion, collateral volatility and the gas needed to act. Do not assume a market will remain liquid enough for a last-minute exit.
Redemption is unavailable
Check whether the cooldown has completed and whether the redemption window is open. If the interface still fails, verify on-chain state and official notices rather than relying on the front end alone.
