Atari, Base and Stack teamed up for Coinbase’s Onchain Summer in a campaign that let players mint and play Asteroids and Breakout through a wallet-based experience. Atari announced the Onchain Arcade on July 22, 2024, with leaderboard competition and weekly rewards scheduled through August 30, 2024. Those dates are historical: current access to the games and any rewards has not been confirmed.
What Atari and Coinbase announced
Atari’s July 22, 2024 announcement described Onchain Arcade as a collaboration among Atari, Base and Stack for Coinbase’s Onchain Summer. It featured two Atari classics, Asteroids and Breakout, in a wallet-based format. Atari said players could mint each game, play and compete for places on onchain leaderboards. The announcement’s title refers to Coinbase, but Atari named Base and Stack as collaborators too. The published details describe the campaign and its participation flow; they do not establish that the games remain available today.
How the Onchain Arcade participation worked
- Connect an existing wallet or create one.
- Mint the game you want to play.
- Play and compete on the corresponding leaderboard.
That is the flow Atari described in 2024. It is not confirmation that arcade.fun currently hosts the games or that minting still works. Check the service’s current availability and terms before connecting a wallet or approving any transaction.

Is an Atari 2600+ required?
No. The 2600+ was named as a prize, not as a requirement. The described arcade flow used a wallet and game minting; the 2600+ is a separate physical console for retro gaming.

Does Atari still pursue blockchain projects?
Atari’s FY2024–25 reporting later described the Coinbase partnership to bring Asteroids and Breakout to blockchain as a recent Atari X Web3 activity. Atari’s FAQ also says the company remains committed to blockchain initiatives. These statements provide context about Atari’s broader direction, but do not confirm ongoing access to this specific arcade campaign. Atari FY2024–25 reporting Atari FAQ
