ASUS RMA Disputes: What Changed and How to Challenge a Charge

ASUS’s 2024 apology addressed RMA communication gaps in the United States and Canada. Here’s how to document a dispute and understand current U.S. service charges.

ASUS apologized in May 2024 for gaps in RMA communications in the United States and Canada, then announced changes to quotations and its repair process. For customers facing a disputed warranty denial or repair bill, the practical distinction is important: ASUS said repairs covered by its manufacturer’s limited warranty remain free, while out-of-warranty service can involve diagnostic and repair charges. The current U.S. instructions explain those charges; ASUS’s service timeline lists later updates through June 12, 2026.

What ASUS apologized for—and what it changed

On May 15, 2024, ASUS said customer feedback exposed gaps in its U.S. and Canada RMA communications. It apologized “for any confusion and frustration” customers might have experienced and said repairs covered by its manufacturer’s limited warranty had always been, and would continue to be, free. ASUS also announced changes effective May 16, including revised out-of-warranty repair pricing and a review of abnormal pricing. ASUS’s May 15 statement describes the announcement.

On May 23, ASUS said it was improving quotation emails, repair communications, and the service process. Its service-enhancement timeline records further changes: online troubleshooting in October 2024; simplified issue reporting, changes to outbound shipping for mixed repairs, and expanded motherboard repair test reporting in May 2025; and repair assistance, genuine-parts access, motherboard compatibility support, and pre-shipment photos in June 2026. Some features apply only to selected devices or service contexts. ASUS says its expanded motherboard reports confirm completion of all 17 critical repair-center tests; that describes the reporting feature, not a rate of successful claims.

These are ASUS’s descriptions of its own updates, not independent measurements of dispute outcomes. The available sources do not establish how frequently ASUS RMA disputes occur across its customer base.

How to dispute an ASUS warranty denial or charge

Build a clear record before accepting a charge or shipping a product. GamersNexus’s warranty response guide recommends concise communication and asking for a written explanation when coverage is denied. It is not legal advice.

  1. Gather the identifying details. Include the product and model, serial number, purchase date, order number, and a concise description of the defect. Keep your receipt, support messages, RMA number, quotations, shipping records, and any photos together.
  2. Describe the problem and timeline. State when the issue began, what happens, and any troubleshooting already attempted. Stick to observable facts; avoid speculation about the cause.
  3. Ask ASUS to explain the decision in writing. If ASUS says a repair is not covered, request the specific reason, the condition or damage it identified, and how that finding affects warranty coverage. If a quote seems wrong, ask for an itemized explanation and clarification of which costs are diagnostic, repair, labor, or shipping charges.
  4. Check the quote before authorizing work. Ask whether the quoted work is optional or required, what happens if you decline, and whether returning the product will involve another charge. Do not treat an estimate as approval to repair; ASUS’s U.S. instructions say repair begins only after payment of the final quotation is confirmed.
  5. Keep the exchange in one written thread where possible. Save dates, names or case identifiers, and the exact amount requested. If you speak by phone, send a short follow-up summarizing what you understood and ask ASUS to correct any misunderstanding.

GamersNexus reported after a June 2024 meeting with ASUS that the company had created an email route for reconsideration of prior RMAs, committed to refunds in qualifying cases involving repair, shipping, labor, and tax charges, and moved customer-induced-damage determinations from repair centers to an ASUS team. It also reported a planned U.S. support center offering a choice between repair and a refurbished board. These were commitments as compiled and reported by GamersNexus—not a list supplied by ASUS—and do not establish that every measure was implemented universally or applies to every case. See GamersNexus’s June 14, 2024 report for its account.

What a current U.S. ASUS RMA may cost

ASUS’s U.S. online RMA instructions distinguish a shipping label from out-of-warranty service. The listed fees and steps are for the United States; confirm the live instructions for your product and location because fees and processes can change.

Service item What ASUS’s U.S. instructions say
One-way shipping label Starts at $25 for components and $40 for system products.
Out-of-warranty diagnostic fee Required in advance, non-refundable, and includes two-way shipping. It does not include the repair.
Repair quotation Sent after ASUS examines the device.
Repair authorization Repair starts after payment of the final quotation is confirmed.

These charges concern out-of-warranty service; they do not negate ASUS’s statement that repairs covered by its manufacturer’s limited warranty remain free. If ASUS classifies a repair as out of warranty and you disagree, request the basis for that classification in writing before deciding whether to proceed.

Prepare the device and protect your records

Before sending anything, ask ASUS or the repair center for the return method, packaging requirements, and any instructions for accessories or data. The service center’s instructions control; do not assume a particular box or packing material is required. Photograph the device’s condition before shipment and save the tracking number and proof of delivery. ASUS’s June 2026 timeline includes pre-shipment photos among its service updates, but the page does not establish that the feature is available for every product or RMA.

If you are considering an eligible out-of-warranty repair yourself, ASUS says its Parts Shop supports genuine-part searches by product category, part number, or serial number. Confirm part compatibility and regional availability before buying; parts access does not establish that self-repair is cheaper or preserve coverage for damage caused during the work.
